Will hybridization work with non-self-pollinating plants? Step 2 says to let the two plants that you want to cross-breed self-pollinate for 8-10 generations--Would you manually pollinate each flower with itself?

Can we say using DNA technology to create new kinds of plants differentiate from what people have been doing for thousands of years? Why/why not?
@agriculture_explained2 жыл бұрын
I would say so, inserting DNA from one species into another is a fairly recent technology where as selective breeding and hybridization has been used for thousands of years. Genetic modification is unique in the way that it doesn't require reproduction in order to develop the new variety where as the others use reproduction to introduce the new DNA. Genetic modification can also cross genetic material from species that couldn't reproduce, such as a plant and a bacteria, so the introduction of new DNA couldn't have occurred naturally.

In Genesis, God gave every plant on earth to man. They were designed for us to use. We can use things wisely or foolishly. There are plants that will kill you if you eat them but there could be amazing gifts lying inside of that plant just waiting for us to discover its proper use. God is amazingly wise and He knows what we're like. He built in a fail-safe so that we cannot go too far with our tinkering. By all means make yourself a taller tree or a redder flower. He knew you'd do it before He even created it, so go ahead and have fun with what He has given you.
