Just reserved. This is literally something I wanted to make when I was doing my masters and have been dreaming about for years when fingerdrumming on my lunchbox during long bus rides. I totally resonate with the idea that you should spend time with an instrument to get good at it!

Oh thanks!!! Yes, that’s something that seems to be absent from some of the modern-day ideologies. You need to practice to be good at playing whatever you play.

@@nikoladze Thousands of hours of practice on traditional instruments to become competent, that's how it was. But you understand this. Nice instrument man. How sensitive is it and what is the latency like? They've been the big issues on all pads devices I've tried.
@nikoladze3 жыл бұрын
@@Myuzak In the combination mode, you can set the latency between 10-30ms. This is useful to make sure if you don’t hit two pads at the exact same time, you still trigger a combination. If you disable the combination mode, then the latency is below 10ms. I am trying to make it 5ms.
@nikoladze3 жыл бұрын
@@Myuzak and regarding sensitivity, I am using a particular type of pressure-sensitive material (my little tiny secret), which is much more accurate than the piezo approach. Reading sensors through 12-bit ADCs and sampling them at 1000Hz (will be faster). So weak strokes sound quiet and hard strokes sound loud. It works, you can actually play with dynamics, conveniently, and musically.

Hi Metabeard, the number of preorders was completely overwhelming. the problem is the semiconductor shortage. The project is paused until two critical semiconductors are put back in production.

Hey Koka, what is the software used to build the kits going to look like?
@nikoladze3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Good question. There are two roads I can go down. 1. Providing my own software that will increase the cost of the beatbox and 2. Use existing cheap great software, like Reaper and develop a nice workflow, make a tutorial on how to do it. I think option 2 sounds a bit rough, but I believe that is the most efficient way. With this I can also put it into hands of advanced users, so that maybe they can then sell or give their packs to those who don’t want to put in extra effort. If all goes well and I ship the Beatboxes, I will produce a massive sample pack every month that Beatbox owners will get for free for one whole year.

Argh, why leather and not vegan leather at least. Now I like the design and would get one, but knowing that'll be leather under my fingers makes me feel uncomfortable. There are more sustainable and long lasting options available than just using animal skin.

True..!

Personally, I would rather know that the skin of animals killed for food is not being wasted. I do really hope the leather doesn't come from animals killed purely for their skin, though.

Why leather? It's gratuitous dead animal. Nothing about this calls for leather.

How would you know? Have you RnD´d it, coded it or anything along those lines?
@bitegoatie3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidTimmePerc What in hell are you talking about? You question makes no sense. I have done plenty of electronics, but that's irrelevant. What I said is patently correct. In fact, leather is a bizarre, nonstandard choice here. You may enjoy the folksy charm of it, or the way thumping your finger on someone's disembodied flesh feels, but the use of the leather here is completely unnecessary to the product. It looks like a clever product. I wanted one. The leather is a deal breaker.
@DavidTimmePerc3 жыл бұрын
@@bitegoatie My question is: have you built this or anything similar to be able to reach the conclusion that "nothing about this calls for leather"? If so, you probably wouldn´t even need to be interested in this, just make it yourself! Also, ten seconds of research could have shown you that leather is indeed not the ultimate or only option for this. As for what is industry standard, it is my understanding that industry standard was not good enough for this specific machine.
@bitegoatie3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidTimmePerc You have answered your own question. Yes, many people could build this thing. When someone has done the work on a project and makes prebuilt copies available, it often makes sense to buy a product rather than building it. The person who did build this instrument did an admirable of job realizing his vision. He made a choice, however, to include leather. Any number of surfacing materials would serve the same purpose. I asked him about that choice, since the dead-animal aspect of that material bothers me and many other people. It is a choice that will cost him business, including mine, so I wanted to know his thinking about it, even though I know the range of possible answers. At that point, you jumped in with something close to word soup. Reread your own answer to my answer and ask yourself why you asked your hostile question in response to my question.
@icoustic74023 жыл бұрын
@@bitegoatie I must agree, there are better alternatives that are sustainable and morally defensible
