Collector of postal history here, I'm currently working my way through a collection of GB free franks. I would estimate it at around 2000 items from 1704 through to 1840. I think by the end I'll have enough data to write my own book!

My British entires are mostly from the pre stamp era with some dating back to the 1700s. All of them are either legal or financial documents, which is why they presumably survived because they were records that were archived rather than thrown out with the trash. I also find the writing extremely difficult to read. My entires and covers unfortunately aren't nearly as interesting as the ones you discussed here.

Interesting, I haven't looked at pre stamp covers yet. I often wonder how the post office managed to work out who to deliver them to, with a combination of poor handwriting and limited address information.

Came across a massive collection and need help. Im researching daily, and have box of postal history from Dr. Zang Z. Zao famous electrocardio 1960's to 1980's, chiense album from china rep days of freedom new stamps, europe, usa, and more. need to email you its very cool.
