I don’t know if it’ll make a difference, but it may be worth reporting all those ads as being in violation of KZbin ad policy - specifically for 1) advertising in a restricted category (politics), 2) although if they veer into transphobia, bigotry, and/or sexism, you can report them a second time for hate speech, and 3) if they go into anti-vaccine nonsense or global warming denial you can maybe report them a third time for scams… …and like I wrote, it may not result in the ad being removed, but it DOES create a record somewhere of the fact that someone saw through their ruse and objected to it. After Pinochet was removed, after the Third Reich lost W.W.II, after apartheid was beaten back in South Africa, after Idi Amin lost power, the written records left behind by officials and civilians alike - records often regarded as inconsequential at the time - in the aftermath proved crucial in piecing together what had happened, and even in prosecuting crimes. Even if an ad speaks in dogwhistles, if the ad *points* to a site such as PragerU, or the Daily Wire, or the Epoch Times, you can still report it as pointing to a site promoting restricted products, hate speech, and scams. Again, it may not get the ad removed, but having placed your objection on the record, and having created a massive record of such objections, could well prove vital down the line.

@@theanswerisa3758 Homeschooling without oversight is a form of neglect because it drastically limits kids opportunities (since you don't have the same education as peers and will often have to spend years catching up, and a lot of clubs and sports for kids are only for kids in school, and a lot of colleges are only open to you with a degree, not a GED), it socially isolates them (since the majority of kids friends are made at school), it stunts them developmentally (because all the core social and mental development you get from interacting with peers in school, you don't get), and, it just leaves massive gaps in your education and life skills you will spend your whole life trying to find and fill. this is from a former homeschool kid now in college for early childhood development and elementary education, because I don't want other kids to go through what I did.

@@universal_stupidity Yeah that tracks. I was also homeschooled but my parents made an effort to give me opportunities to have social interaction. Summer camps and church mostly, a homeschool co-op later on. I was also a very curious kid who would do my own research about things so I sort of supplemented my own education. That said, I know what you’ve listed is absolutely the case most of the time. In fact only now (a few years after graduating high school) am I actually learning about evolution, sex, non-religious world history before 4000bce, and whatever else wasn’t included in my learning.

The first I heard about the transatlantic slave trade was in grade 4. There are age appropriate ways to talk about horrific things. We weren't exposed to all the depths of cruelty in the slave trade (yet) but we definitely saw diagrams about how slaves were transported in terrible conditions and abused with whips.
@somewhat-blue

It also doesn’t take a lot of details to convince a kid that being taken away from your home and forced to work without pay is a bad thing. Our imaginations are powerful, too, so even saying something as broad as “slaveowners treated them very badly” and letting them fill in the blanks will keep the conversation age-appropriate while still getting across what’s important.

I swear people who claim children are too young to learn about slavery have never seen little girls play dolls with each other. Taxing the rich doesn't work when the rich can use money to influence political mobility. Who goes to Congress and who doesn't? The person who's supported by the dollar, not the person people like most. 10/11 times there's an American presidential election it's the candidate with more money that wins. Advertising budget is a huge factor of political success, a lot of people just vote for the name they see the most. If the people with money choose who gets the biggest budget, and thus who is most likely to get power, then why would that politician tax the people who just put him in charge? Diabolical, isn't it?

As someone who was raised catholic I still struggle how people of the faith can believe in the PraerU garbage. The most important things jesus taught us was mutual love and mutual dependence. Forgiveness of sin, giving aid to those that need it, be aware of vices of idolitry and deception and that all men are equal under god and no man should stand above another. The greatest man is the one that works for others and if we all did that we could live in a great society together. While I no longer consider myself Catholic my Catholic upbringing greatly informed my later socialist beliefs. Especially my rejection of the notion of "personal responsibility" which mostly just exists to shield the rich and powerful from accountability for their decisions.

@@bsmith8166It certainly isn't explicitly, but right-leaning content tends to get more and better sponsorships - therefore getting more promotion on the platform, and the right is pretty good at gaming the algorithm to their advantage while the left is less so. Therefore, while YT isn't explicitly right-wing, it sure isn't left-wing, and the result of the way it works is that it is better for right-wingers than for left-wingers. Not to say lefttubers can't succeed, but that they have it harder compared to their rightie counterparts.

Right wing beliefs have a certain appeal to immature 14-year-old boys, but you are supposed to grow up, not hang on to the glory days of adolescence into middle age like the alt. right does. There is no need to apologize or be embarrassed because you are obviously capable of self-reflection and correcting errors, making you unsuitable for the right wing mob--they are certain that they are never wrong, even when they are talking about things they know nothing at all about. That's why their claim s of wanting discussion or debate are so absurd. If you reject facts you can't be taught anything. When they complain that "both sides": are not covered, it really means "you have to say my lies are true."

Earlier this month, I was just vibing on KZbin, and I clicked on one of PragerU's sponsored creators making reaction videos to The Little Mermaid 2023, and then it ended up reaching 'Representation Doesn't Matter' and then it got really weird with a lot of transphobia, and I eventually went from 'okay, this is different' to 'this is NOT the content I want to be ingesting'. After that, I was a bit wary of any 'PragerU' sponsored content, and thank goodness you made this video. It really shows how it's meant to pull people in with another agenda. I'm pretty sure Paris had rats prior to the rise of the "woke mind virus." In fact, rats spread the bubonic plague in the thirteenth century, where a third of the population of Europe died, in part because they relied on the church and ignored what little scientific knowledge existed then. BTW you could literally be burned at the stake for saying the church might be wrong at the time. People should be learning about feudalism and what it was like to be a serf because corporate feudalism is the goal for the right. They want 99.9% of people to be a natural resource like coal or lumber and serve to be used to make money for the tiny and opulent ruling class. Anyone who can't work productively for any reason isn't worth keeping alive. No need for health care, education, infrastructure or anything gov't does and the serfs are kept in line by a small class of brutes who are free to do as they wish with them and kill them as needed. There isn't really a law as such, since the penalty for doing anything is probably death unless you survive, but then you can't work so you die anyway.

In the section where you talk about being green, you give it a brief mention but don’t really say that this sort of “individual action” campaign has been a strategy for diverting climate action for decades. It’s been used by the top polluters to put responsibility onto the consumer instead of the system that made the products. Not that the consumer isn’t free of fault, of course they chose to buy the product but a little man isn’t going to convince a C.E.O to change their entire production chain to be more eco-friendly.

It's such a (frustratingly) effective talking point because, like so many Conservative misdirects, it is based on a core premise that is, technically, true. It then uses that to paint any opposition to the idea as being 'unreasonable' or 'avoiding responsibility'. Thus, they effectively stop the conversation at the very start, because they offer a solution that is very simple and seems obvious. It's hard to disagree with. Because the second part goes unstated: Individuals should improve their consumption habits (so that companies don't have to do anything)

But also the whole idea of a weak state being beneficial to industrialization is a lie. A powerful centralized state capable of mass mobalization, enormous construction projects, massive beaurocracy and powerful companies and institutions is essential for capitalism. The industrialization of Britain, France, Germany, America and Russia did not happen organically. It happened due to state coordination and investment. There is a reason why Italy and Germany didn't industrialize until they were united and why Japan industrialized the way that it did. The whole idea that you can just give the rules of capitalism and industry will build itself is a lie. Nothing will just build itself, industrialization was a political decision that countries make.

Seeing 1984 and Animal Farm on that list makes me think that either they wildly misinterpreted them so as to fit their ideologies, or they haven’t actually read them at all and are just obsessed with the ideas they have about the books. I mean, 1984’s protagonist literally fantasizes about the grape of a woman and then he starts having an affair. Dunno how many conservative parents would want their kids reading even implied sexy times. Could probably go more in depth with the book contents and whatnot, but I’m very tired. @@MrMarinus18True, 1984’s whole premise is living in a world dominated by fascist totalitarianism, but it takes a very strong stance against those ideologies. Winston dreams about overthrowing the Party and seeking the truth (even if his job, one of his few pleasures, is covering up that exact thing) and is in constant fear about being found out by the Thought Police for those anti-Party sentiments. *Spoilers for the ending below* It is only when he is literally tortured for weeks, months, however long because his perception of the passage of time becomes broken, that he accepts the Party and loves Big Brother. 1984 does just about everything it can to say ‘totalitarianism is bad’, and it baffles me that some conservatives don’t see how so many of the ideas presented conflicts with their beliefs. But you know. Doublethink.

Honestly, the whole concept of home schooling is absolutely bonkers to me. My mother is a teacher, I remember her studying 4 years on the specific subjects she would teach and *how to teach it* properly to young people. I remember her sitting up late at night studying this, supported by my father's job (which didn't pay all that well), for those four years, while we weren't dirt poor, my parents were keenly aware of how strained their budget was, and we could only afford the cheapest food and clothes for that 4 year period, because my mom didn't have the time to work even part time with all the studying involved with becoming a teacher. Even afterwards, when she was hired at a private school (a Christian school, btw), she had to work long hours every day and weekends just to prep for the next lessons, grading homework, etc. And she only teaches 3 subjects. And she freaking loved her job. Now imagine some average parent, who doesn't have a passion for teaching, like my mother does, who hasn't had even a rudimentary education in how to teach - and no proper education in the subjects being taught - while also not having the time because they're working a regular job (or running the household, if it's "that" kind of conservative home) - while ALSO having to teach EVERY SINGLE SUBJECT on the curriculum. The SHEER F*CKING ARROGANCE of thinking any lay person, with a 20 year old high school diploma and a couple of KZbin videos can do what my mother worked and still works herself ragged doing is absolutely insane, and frankly infuriating to me. It's as absurd as some schmuck deciding he wants to perform his own surgery because he doesn't trust the "elite" doctors at hospitals with their "evolutionary indoctrination" and "woke sterile operating environment". Teachers are professionally TRAINED to TEACH. It's literally what they have dedicated their lives to doing. And someone comes along thinking, they can not only do the same thing they do with a fraction of the work put into it, but do it BETTER?! Give me a f*cking break.

To preserve your mental sanity and capacity you will be begin to block out thoughts that can never according to your mind be realized. Who here spends time thinking about how they would plan for how to spend 24 million dollars. Yeah nobody. That is the same state of dream scenario that standing up to the CCP is. If just then....
