what is preload? how to do preloading?

preloading done to reduce axial clearance on bearing, ballnut of ballscrew etc.
there are methods of preloading in ballscrew
preloading helps to achieve good positional accuracy
heavy preloading leads to increase frictional forces in bearing causing heat generation.
