Well first things first. Great video. I didn't end up here because I know more than you. I came because I was looking to learn something from you. Thank you for taking the time an energy in putting this together. It was informative. 10 years old video and it's still giving.

How can this amplify backwards without causing interference with light going in the opposite direction? I think I'm missing something.

What about Raman Amplification in a plasma?

hi, one question: is it right, that the Wavelength S < Wavelength p??? Because E=h*(c/Lambda) and with (Wavelength S < Wavelength p) the energy of the signal is grater then the energy of the Pumplaser and that is wrong i think...

You are right, at 2:08 it shows Wp = 1535 nM, Ws=1550 (Wavelength S > Wavelength p)

Shout out to the simpletons who's only comment is to mention pronunciation. Have you anything other than this to comment on? Video is great, thanks

people in jail need to listen to this kind of scientific information as a everyday torture. Jails would be empty.

I think you're confusing wavelength with angular frequency. That "w" looking letter is an omega which stands for angular frequency (it's 2π* frequency), and it's inversely proportional to wavelength...

often, when we don't like or understand the message, we attack the pronunciation of the messenger...I mean, this stuff is pretty much over my head, but why would pronunciation matter if you know the word he is saying?

I could be wrong, but I think it's a little clear that his accent is preventing him from pronouncing the English word properly. I think we get the point nevertheless.
