The ego, being illusory/unreal does not exist .. whatever tendencies it has .. sins/narratives/self image/signifiers are a fantasy .. has no reality .. cannot be an obstacle. Does not pertain to you , has nothing to do with the self .. the ego's state is irrelevant. The ego itself cannot comprehend this .. the ego can't grasp that it doesn't exist. While I understand his message, many of the Ego based "seeking " as he calls it are the first steps for many trying to escape the illusion. It gives a context for what is not real, so they are valuable for the contrast.

The Ego is built up by the experiences of the idividual, temporal and phenomenonal causation. Every experience is made up of elements of the senses, external and internal, visual, auditory, emotional, thought, feeling, all adding to determining beliefs (energetic blocks) about, "life, the universe and everything"...even and especially the human condition. These entraining and enculturing, this stagnated energy, must be overcome, allowing the energy to flow, or the ego will not be overcome, because they create the ego, and block Free Thought, Free Will, and Manifest Full Potential. As long as the human being remains on the material plane of existence, they will not be rid of the ego, nor can the ego be overcome without the body, which is the material emanation of the spirit, and together make a Soul. Many are hawking the easy way, "just believe" that you are, and you will be...this is the red herring of "the guru's" ego, transfered to his students. We are in the age of self deception and delusion, narrow and self sacrificing, is The Way of The Most High Almighty.

I've been spiritual shopping by going from one teacher or teaching to another but I have never been able to go within...it's always been too difficult to sit with myself and go inside. I've intellectualised it , but I haven't escaped my mind yet. I'd love to have the ability to meditate but I'm full of contradictions and despite loving peace I haven't got beyond closing my eyes. I love shunyamurti intellectually and wish I knew how to let go inside? In the way he articulates his knowledge.

Thanks Shunyamurti. I have been listening to you for the past years and always silently reflecting on your explanations and teachings. English obviously is not my native language but if you bear with me and very briefly, I have studied philosophy academically (PhD) and currently focusing on Consciousness Studies and philosophy of mind. All these years of studying and teachings, I learned almost nothing but one lesson, which is that it does not matter how educated or learned one may seem to be, at the end of the day, it is only love, compassion and genuinity that remains; and I see all three in your character as I see it, so from the bottom of my heart thank you for being you. ------- I have some questions and although I don't expect direct answers as I doubt there could be any answers for such immature questions, I would appreciate response from Shunyamurti. I must say that personally I have some inner/revelatory or for the lack of better words, contemplative answers for them that are not really "answers" but are a kind of realization I guess. However as S. Kierkegaard beautifully expresses, the shadow of doubt is always present as well in the whole human experience. ------- 1. Metaphorically and anthropocentrically speaking (being limited in "language" as the very requirements for thoughts), I would like to ask: why the absolute ineffable reality which cannot be put into language, desires/desired/urged to manifest/appear in finite forms? The usual typical answers are that "The Ineffable One" wants to experience world, hence it so-called needs to somehow paradoxically self-limits itself. Or even worse, that the Absolute is co-called "unconscious" which then needs to become conscious by manifesting as the world (so-called self-limiting) which again in my thoughts is pure nonsense as again Absolute should not be thought/imagined of as a person nor as a field of unconsciousness; also, if that's the case then by the first moment the first "person" realized its true nature the whole universe could have vanished as there would not be any "Maya" left after the first realization. The other problem with this way of thinking is that if it is pure unconsciousness, then how unconscious began to develop this desire of having manifestations? And when? So is Absolute Reality limited in time? If it is infinite then at what point in its infinitude it "felt" or "willed" this urge of wanting to become conscious? How can that be true for an ineffable absolute reality (The One) that even stands beyond being and non-being (Plotinus)? ... This is pure anthropomorphic fantasy of course as the absolute reality is not a "person" nor is limited to any particular personhood to begin with (though it can and it is appearing as all "persons"). Alo, it does not even exists or not exist as it stands beyond existence by definition, hence desire, needs or all the other concepts have nothing to do with it. But again, at the same time asking "Why" is not unreasonable either. So again why the absolute reality is infinitely and eternally appearing/manifesting as the world including people to begin with? really?... 2. We usually attribute "infinity" and "eternity" to the absolute reality, while infinity itself is by definition, infinity of something, infinity actually by definition or even imagination refers to the infinitude of "something". Such as the infinity of sky, infinitude of fractals, infinity of stars and so on. While again Absolute Ineffable The One stands beyond any "Thing", hence metaphorically speaking, it belongs to the world of "no-thing" and while is fully and absolutely transcendent from the world of things, but is also paradoxically immanent in it as well. However, it does not mean that IT IS infinite or eternal either as even infinity and eternity are anthropomorphic concepts after all... --- So the question is, THAT which stands even beyond infinitude and eternity, appears/manifests as the seemingly finitude and time, and all the other forms of manifestations such as humans as self-conscious sentient beings with the illusion of having a separate self; who eventually also have this inner urge for realizing that their personhood although relatively real, but eventually is nothing but an illusion in compare to the true self. So what's the "wisdom" or "mystery" behind the manifestation in the first place? ... Why the hassle to manifests for then the needs for the manifestations to realize their essence? And if it is so, why bother? ... This, the whole world and all the manifestations and appearances and illusions of all kinds including sentient self-conscious persons are nothing but what Absolute Reality willed to appear in the first place, so again why bother? ... By asking this don't get me wrong though, I have a strong inner urge to realization since I was little kid, but when contemplating deeply I also have deep logical problems with it. Thanks,

Dear Philosophical Seeker, You are carrying such a heavy burden of questions. As you clearly recognize, the questions have no answers outside your own mind, because they are based on your own concepts of God, reality, world, and self that are all derived from illusory premises. This is why there are “deep logical problems,” as you say. The realization of Truth will dissolve all those questions, the false logic they are based on, and the ego that enjoys asking the questions. Only silencing the mind and abiding in stillness will bring the understanding you seek. May you give yourself that priceless Present. Real knowledge is the end of the seeker and the search. As I understand it, there is the undifferentiated and the differentiated. The undifferentiated is the spirit of connection and unity, the comprehensive spiritual realm in totality. I began to wonder today if the ego is a measuring device. If this is so, then all measurements taken by the body, through the 5 senses, the brain, or even the mind's eye, pertain to measurement. Measurement creates differentiation, measurements are discrete snapshots of quanta of reality. They refer to the individual pieces, not the whole. Furthermore, machines may use differentiation too. This means that ANY measuring device may be a reflection of Ego. Science, with its emphasis on measurement, may also be of the Ego. By tapping into the field of differentiation, we strengthen and reinforce the Ego. Attachment and transactional relationships also refer to the process of the Ego attempting to measure out conclusions in advance. Measurement taking may also exist in the measurement of quantum states, as performed in Scientific experiments (the collapsing of the waveform). Hence, it is probable that the Universe itself responds to our ego, and may act according to what the ego deems. By letting go OF MEASUREMENT we avail ourselves to the spiritual field of undifferentiated energy. The ego is thus a tool for living in the physical world, but it may subsume character, personality and ethics if one overindulges on a frequent basis. Treating reality as a measurement problem with a solution creates a mindset that is simply delusional. It is a mindset that is tense, enclosed, discrete and narrow. Certainty, proof and linear thinking are thus aspects of the Ego. Measurement cannot solve all of life's problems, one must surrender to the greater field of formless, undifferentiated energy. Does ego play a part in the process of synaptic pruning? When younger, one may have more access to the undifferentiated field, but as one ages and takes part in routine ego measurements, parts of the undifferentiated brain may slough off and atrophe, becoming discarded by the body. When ego-oriented brain cells are constantly reinforced by measurement, parts of the brain that pertain to undifferentiation may become abandoned and thus cease to exist. This may account for "synaptic pruning". Sensory deprivation tanks may remove most of the measurement capabilities of the 5 senses, lulling the person into a state that is closer to undifferentiated reality. Dream states may dispell ego-oriented thoughts, returning the mind back a greater undifferentiated state of being and thereby providing rest.

Heel blij, dat ik via dit medium Shanyumurti ben tegengekomen. Het heeft lang geduurd (77 jaar) maar ik heb mij na een paar weken luisteren nog nooit zo goed gevoeld. Het komt allemaal “binnen” alsof het er allemaal al was. De waarheid. Na een paar weken mediteren ben ik voor een groot gedeelte geslaagd niet meer zo na te denken. Ben blij, relaxt en veel minder angstig. Leef meer in het heden en voel mij goed.. Wat een geluk dat ik thuis wordt gebracht door deze wijze denker.

@satyogainstitute In what sense does the ego not exist? In a similar sense, objects of the world do not exist either. The appearance of matter and objects in the world is an interpretation of energy and space, geometrically arranged and ultimately translated into our awareness as object. Yet, while “there is no spoon”, we see that objects like spoon, the pen, the sword, the nuke, the ego are functional and practical and actually have impact on the world and are not merely abstract. So while the ego is perhaps a hallucination much like the rest of material perception, it’s at work in this world and of this world. We are not the ego, but is it truly not real?

At most, the ego is an appearance in (us the) awareness. It is of the essence of matter on one level so it belongs to the simulation just as all objects do. On another level, ego has no substance of its own and exists only as a concept. Body and mind believing itself to be a separate agent from the rest of existence that is the illusion of the ego. As one realizes themselves as awareness and abides as such, the ego seemingly becomes integrated as one embraces themselves as the totality of all.

Thank you so much Shunyamurti. Can you please elaborate on rituals? I think that it is important to define and differentiate between different type of rituals for example the commonalities between rituals like meditation, praying and fasting are: They are all exotic. Requires will-power to practice. Require no supplements. The outcome could take many years. The outcome is permanent. Liberation isn't granted to all. Then you have rituals like medicine ceremony 'ayahuasca, dmt, mushrooms, magic including white and perhaps Riki..etc. They all don't need will-power. The outcome is temporary or illusory. Results are instantaneous. The result is almost granted to all. It comes with some consequence like potential neurosis, easily triggered, no synchronicity between reality and the self, inability to commit and perhaps struggling financially. Logically we need to drop any rituals that relay on supplement or magic. On the other hand, esoteric path is a self path. Self path is no path because it is inward/individual and it requires letting go/taming the ego. I think we cannot undermine exotic nor esoteric path.

Dear Yasmine, Thank you for your always interesting questions. But I would not put meditation in the category of ritual. It is the practice of freedom. It is not a ritual engaged in for the purpose of attaining freedom, but rather it is freedom itself. Liberation is indeed granted to all. But it must be accepted. This brings peace, silence, and egoless presence. No other ritual is needed, but the path unfolds spontaneously and is always perfect. You are what you are seeking. Namaste, Shunyamurti

I know you might disagree with me but I believe that there is wisdom behind spiritual diversity. In religions, liberation is achieved by God. There are some forces like Baraka, Holy Spirit, and Visions. I find that the concept of liberation in religions is quite different from eastern philosophies. I find it incomplete or perhaps appear incomplete! Is it incomplete to serve a purpose or help to operate in the disfunctional social order? Is it incomplete due to lack of meditation? In mediation, do we have access to Baraka and Holy Spirit? Thanks again Namaste Yasmine

Dear Yasmine, I agree that the diversity of religions is very helpful for those seeking liberation, since they show many different facets of the same Ultimate Reality and how to attain Liberation. Though they employ different vocabularies, I find that the Eastern and Western religions and philosophies are describing the same process and that one can reach the goal by following any of those paths, so long as one understands the subtle meaning of the words used to explain the nature of the shift in consciousness that is required. Of course no religion or philosophy is sufficient without the practice of silencing the mind and giving all one’s attention to the Supreme Presence. And yes, it is the Will of God that determines the level of attainment, not the ego that is seeking. Grace is always the prerogative of God. This is why humility and surrender are so key in the process. Blessings on receiving the divine gift of that sweetest touch of God’s grace. Namaste, Shunyamurti

Dear Matthias, The ego was formed gradually, through a number of increasingly degraded models, over a period of many centuries, culminating in its current psychopathic, perverse, and psychotic variants, along with a few remaining relatively healthy egos capable of understanding the nature of the situation. The original creator of the ego is also its destroyer. In Western terms, we could call it the Logos, or the Mind of God. The ego is seemingly subtracted from the Mind of God, due to its ignorance. Sure, the ego is an illusion. But, man, the landlord will still be knocking on someone's door and still the rent is needed and the food still needs to be bought, illusion or otherwise. Yes, in a way we're all interdependent and separation is an illusion, yet the neighbor remains a neighbor who won't pay rent on your behalf; her rent is hers to be paid and your rent is yours to be paid as well. Certain practicalities still have force, even though it's all a dream.

If you don't want to pay rent then don't. The alternative isn't as bad as the cycle of 'working just to pay rent' hamster wheel. Or you can just find joy in the whole thing by changing your perception about it although the former grants you time freedom, sovereignty, etc. and so on
