Thank you for mentioning geothermal. What you talked about is shallow one mile geothermal. There is also deep and very deep geothermal being developed. Of note is plasma deep drilling, which may be able to drill (burn) its way down to 10km or deeper. Rocks at that depth produce supercritical steam levels, which can spin high power turbines.

"It’s becoming clear that there will be no transition to clean energy (whatever that means) by 2030." - Capex Insider

If Capex Insider means that the transition to clean energy will not be complete by 2030, then they are 100% correct. I will take 10-15 years more. But if they mean that the process will not be deeply engaged, then I have bad news for them... it is ALREADY deeply engaged, and going faster than professionals of the matter thought possible 10-15 years ago. I was one of those then, and I am now thrilled at the pace at which things are going! Anyway, Capex Insider seems to be financial specialists... hardly the people who know much on the matter

Snowy Hydro 2 and the Westgate Bridge - both projects managed by Australian engineers. Engineers stick numbers' into scientists equations and get answers. However, they do not know how to handle UNCERTAINTY !
@st-ex8506

Nobody knows for sure how to handle uncertainty... because it is uncertain by essence. But saying that engineers do not plan for it as best as possible, is not knowing engineering... at least the one I have practiced for decades... but sure enough, I am not Australian... although I have zero reasons to doubt any lack of professionalism from those respected colleagues.

Geothermal is NOT renewable!
@st-ex8506
@st-ex8506 14 күн бұрын
Really? If you mean that it draws on a quantity of heat present in the core of the planet, that is NOT infinite, then you are correct. But at the scale of mankind, it is renewable enough for the next few hundreds of millions of years! Now, it can be that a given geothermal installation draws of a limited supply of energy at a rate higher than it is replenished. But then it only means a mistake was done during the feasibility analysis.
@CuriousEarthMan
@CuriousEarthMan 14 күн бұрын
@@st-ex8506 NONE of it is replenished. ALL the geothermal energy used is basically exhausted into earth's atmosphere, or through the atmosphere into space. Your estimate of hundreds of millions of years is first, a number I question, and also does not take into account changes to the planet as the core temp is drawn down, nor how humans' use patterns will change and increase in use in the face of an "infinite supply" of something . Humans have a history of thinking things are "inexhaustible" and humans are wrong 100% of the time. To my understanding of things, renewable means it gets replenished in a meaningful interval of time. Geothermal energy is therefore not renewable, as you acknowledge in the first part of your comment. If there is so much, someone thinks you can never run out, that is different than renewable.
