I was five. Fever of 106.4°. I shot so much and so hard my mom had to literally pick me up from the hospital bed, carry me to the bathroom, sit me down and hold me up/lean against her body as she knelt and closed her eyes (as we did this all throughout the day and night). My entire primary school got to go home for days with a few others getting sick (I was by far the worst)...all because of me! A lot of my earliest memories are from this period in my life. I recall them quite literally packing me in ice in attempts to reduce my almost 107° temperature😥😷. They monitored everything I ate and drank. So of course it was all hospital food, which I've come to enjoy now but back then as a kindergartener it wasn't so great. Finally my uncle snuggled some buttery rolls in from Quincy's across the street. My dad stayed with me until he got sick, same with my aunt, then my mom. She was the only one not to get sick. I probably would've died without her. I was so ill they wouldn't allow me into the play room with all the terminal kids. Totally bummed me out to have to watch other children smile, laugh and play Nintendo! I recovered, but not before the little germ decided to leave one more parting gift on the way out my body. Irritable Bowel Syndrome and forever pain, cramps, crippling gas and shits that don't quit. I didn't realize one could DIE from this (especially children) until much older in life. Scary!

I have never gone to the hospital but shigella had me hospitalized for 3 days on constant pain meds

If you drink fluids be sure they have some glucose and sodium in it. SGLT-1

I had Shigella about a year ago when I was soon to turn 10, and it all started with a TERRIBLE headache and then blood in my stools... (sorry if gross) I missed about 1 month of school... YIKES! and finally the docter said I could go back to school, but when I did, 3 people got sent home bc I got them sick.... oops :'(

And to also prevent spreading it you could simply wash your hands after pooping in case you might be infected with Shigella because it can be asymptomatic in some cases
