Dear sir, can I ask you a very specific question please? My doctors seem to know nothing about this condition or actively deny it’s existence, despite me showing repeated positive lagtulose breath tests and the story matching up with it appearing after chronic PPI use, repeated severe food poisoning and positive anti-vinculin antibody test (which, according to Mark Pimentel’s research at Cedars Sinai, is a very specific test for post-infectious IBS where he’s shown a very plausible mechanism as to etiology). I’ve had extreme abdominal pain with endless burping. Endoscopy showed mild gastritis, then a duodenal ulcer, yet no H. Pylori upon rapid urease test, not via stool antigen test, nor via breath test. Then I got another bout of food poisoning with Campylobacter jejuni and Toxoplasma gondii, and even after eradication of both pathogens, I’m now left with very severe sensitivity to certain foods which only seem to have in common that they are high in biogenic amines (“histamine intolerance”/“tyramine intolerance”). I also have a skin condition where every time my body warms up in the slighest, my skin feels like it’s being stung by jellyfish and burns and makes me dizzy. It’s an absolute miserable life and I’m only 25. I’ve visited countless of doctors but none seem to be capable in any way. So my question is as follows: do you think that, given the immunomodulatory function of the small intestine, and it’s connection to the humoral immune system including mast cells, do you think that SIBO might be driving these symptoms of mine? Have you seen patients with SIBO who present with a lot of vague extraintestinal symptoms including the weird allergy-like symptoms I described regarding my skin, or food reactions like I mentioned? I humbly beg you to share your experience as this would help me out a lot as I’m left on my own, despite visiting some of the country’s most “reputable” gastroenterologists in Belgium, a first world country.

You have obviously done a lot of homework on this subject. SIBO, as well as other gut problems, can cause many extraintestinal symptoms, including many of the ones you describe. Although your extreme skin sensitivity is unusual. But my suspicion is that there is more than just SIBO involved in all of this. Seeing gastroenterologists, regardless of where in the world you are, is looking for advice in the wrong place. What you describe is not their specialty. It really falls in between the many cracks in the first world medical system. However, we would certainly be willing to work with you, and we have many patients in Europe whom we work with via zoom telemedicine. I suspect that there is a lot more to be learned. Regardless, I wish you the best in your search for answer.

I just tested positive for SIBO after taking a triosmart breath test. I was at 55ppm of H2 from the test results. Is it better to use antibiotics or something like oregano oil to get rid of the SIBO? I’ve been dealing with this for 5 years and just now figured out that it was SIBO all along. I really want to get rid of it and would like to know what the most effective option is!

Great question! Yes! You can absolutely treat Candida and many bacterial overgrowths at the same time. Many herbal medicines do exactly that, and garlic is a good one. I love the way you are thinking!

Based the following symptoms I have had for years, is it your opinion that SIBO could be the culprit? Symptoms - bloating from everything I eat, heart burn, weight gain, fatigue, sleeplessness, achy joints/muscles, loose stools, low energy, brain fog, hair loss.

Those symptoms are not specific to any one cause. There are lots of things that can cause those symptoms. SIBO is only one possibility. Helping people figure those out and get the proper treatment is what we do. We'd be happy to work with you.

Soo happy to have found your channel! I have a question why does a woman in early 30’s have recurrent yeast infection in the vagina? Does it have anything to do with the gut health? Even when there are no symptoms of having problems with the digestion. Also having recurrent yeast infections and having symptoms like being hungover once or twice a day, loss of balance, severe fatigue, dizziness etc. There is absolutely no alcohol in the diet. Please reply to my query.

I do think that vaginal yeast is often seeded by intestinal yeast. And once it's established, it is often difficult to treat. Your other symptoms could be Candida or a lot of other things. I hope that you have seen a good doctor about them. And if it seems to be Candida, we would be happy to work with you.

Sounds like it could be auto-brewery syndrome, which is caused by dysbiosis of the small or large intestine, often with yeasts like Saccharomyces cereviseae, but Klebsiella can produce alcohol too. But SIBO can cause biogenic amine intolerance as well, such as histamine or tyramine intolerance. Not to mention the immune dysregulatipn these conditions can cause such as Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Make sure you exclude more malignant diseases first by going to a specialist, but if they can’t find anything, please look into these things.

Even the Mayo Clinic can't give you a quick and easy "medicine" for SIBO. If they had a good medicine that cured it they'd be happy to sell it to you and it would probably come with side effects. They may even want to operate.

I think what this person who is upset means is that they'd like you to address more in your videos on what to do to treat the IBS. Not everyone can afford to work with an IBS Specialist.

I’m not a doctor so please do research to test. What helped clear my small intestinal gut with bacterial overgrowth was the carnavoir diet. Meat only for a month. The bacteria like the feed on sugar, fiber and carbohydrates. Starving them by eating meat only, has them die off and pass through the gut, out of your system. The gas they produce are either hydrogen or methane. Depending on what kind of bacteria you had. After doing the diet for a month, my gas levels were tested by a SIBO breath test by my doctor and we noticed my hydrogen levels in my small intestine came WAY down. This is not the only answer, but just personal testimony of my experience. Doctors usually also do antibiotic treatment and anti fungal treatment to clear the bacteria out, while also recommending low FODMAP diets. Hope this helps!
