Is it just me or sometimes when you wake up from a sleep paralysis it’s kinda like you’re being pulled back in and falling back into another sleep paralysis against your own will no matter how hard you try to wake yourself up and move.

Yep. Haven’t had it in years but last night I got pulled into it 3 times within like 40 minutes. Each episode was short and I at least knew what was going on. The first time it happened to me in middle school I was terrified.

@@ChefWife67 I’m not joking my wife wakes me up from them because I struggle so hard it wakes her. Tip that works. If you picture yourself just relaxing and literally melt into the bed you will feel like your falling through it and once you get through you will go into a lucid dream and then you can dream about what ever you want. This sounds stupid but it works. Also start wiggling your toes hard and you will start loosening up and you can start moving your body it’s exhausting but don’t stop and you can bust out

Yes, it is quite an experience when you get it the first time. What I have learned from my experiences was to not try and move your arms or legs, but maybe an extremity...fingers, toes, and even turning my head has helped force me out of SP. Also, like the video stated, sleeping on my side has helped reduce the number of times I get it.

DURING the experience...it's absolutely horrifying. I once heard someone try to explain _how_ frightening it is by explaining that the fear you experience is more intense than any fear you could possibly feel during normal waking consciousness. That is so SO true. The fear is so deep and primordial and existentially nihilistic...that it's impossible to put to words. The strongest SP episode I've ever had is one that's stuck with me for years.... It might sound basic, but trust me....the first person experience itself was astonishing. Basically, I woke up(or so I thought) and was laying in bed with my eyes open(so I thought) looking at my dark room. Then...I heard distinct very real footsteps behind me....walking toward me. It stopped just behind me. I didn't turn around to see what, or who, was there....as I was unbelievably terrified. I then heard....like, a walkie talkie, on the belt of whatever/whoever was behind me. It was garbled staticky noisy speech of some kind. I couldn't make out what was being said. But in that moment.....I knew, I absolutely KNEW with 100% conviction that what was behind me was a scout of sorts from an alien civilization that controlled and monitored humans on earth. And the entire universe...our planet...everything....was a sort of illusion or experiment created by this alien race...in which we were the guinea pigs. And I knew(again, KNEW) for a fact that their intentions were utterly hostile and evil to the most nihilistic degree. I can't even begin to describe how horrifying that realization was. I knew for a fact that life was meaningless and void of goodness or hope....because deep down, in the background, at all times, this alien civilization was in control of EVERYTHING. And then I woke up. Scared sh*tless. I quickly realized it was sleep paralysis....but there was no way in hell I was going back to sleep. I ended up turning all the lights on and watching I Love Lucy from 3am until the sun came up. Sleep paralysis is fascinating. It annoys me when people claim it's demons or somehow objectively real. It's not. Rather, your mind really is THAT powerful....that capable of conjuring the most extreme vivid realities that do not exist. What most fascinates me are the emotions you FEEL during the experience. Usually fear. And again....it is a fear no waking human has ever experienced. I don't care how scared you were by something when you were fully awake. It is nothing compared to the fear, the overwhelming existential nihilistic DREAD and absolute KNOWING, during a SP episode. A normal fully awake human being is physiologically incapable of experiencing fear to that degree. That's how intense it is. Thankfully, I haven't had a SP episode in ages. It used to happen maybe once a month. But it's been well over a year now. There ARE ways to induce them that are pretty damn reliable. I plan to summon up my courage and give it a go sometime soon. As awful as it is to be in the midst of.....once it's over, it's so interesting. I'm curious to dive into it again....just to trip out on what my mind is capable of lol. Wish me luck!

A trick that I use to wake up from Sleep Paralysis (if I can remember the trick) is to start opening and closing my eyes repetitively and start hyperventilating myself by breathing and exhaling with high frequency, then for some reason, I am able to recover control of my whole body. (My whole body paralyzes except for my eyes and breathing controls, I don't know if it is the same case for everyone, but already worked three times for myself )

I feel like explanations like these are an attempt to rationalize something we don't understand. I just don't comprehend how the majority of people who experience sleep paralysis report seeing similar things in this state. The experience is always negative rather than positive. Its because of all the horror stories and legends, as well as the fact theyre still in a dream state. Not everyone has hallucinations though. I haven't experienced them ever and I've been dealing with sleep paralysis since I was nine. These hallucinations can change depending on your mood. When you are in sleep paralysis you are in REM state which is where dreams happen, this is why your body is paralyzed you just aren't aware of it most of the time. It's not true that the experience is always negative, those are just the popular ones. Sleep paralysis isn't scary once you come to understand it

I’ve had 5 episodes of sleep paralysis in my lifetime, and they were all terrifying. First one was a shadow man figure standing in my doorway I was totally awake but could not move. Once I snapped out of it I jumped up turned every light on ran downstairs got a knife checked every room and closet in the house. I was convinced there was a intruder inside. From that day forward all the other ones I just felt and heard stuff. I never opened my eyes again. Another I felt an evil presence sitting on my bed, one was a nightmare of black eyed children followed by a heaviness on my chest gasped for air bc I couldn’t breathe, and another was a growl in my ear. I never sleep on my back and haven’t had one in 5 years.

A trick that I use to wake up from Sleep Paralysis (if I can remember the trick) is to start opening and closing my eyes repetitively and start hyperventilating myself by breathing and exhaling with high frequency, then for some reason I am able to recover control of my whole body. (My whole body paralyzes except for my eyes and breathing controls, I don't know if it is the same case for everyone, but already worked three times for myself )

I found a good trick to deal with sleep paralysis when it pops up, usually when you are paralyzed you are on high alert and want to get out of it, you really have 2 options: You can try to fight it and stay awake and move your toes and stuff until you get out of it, or alternatively you can relax, close your eyes (keeps hallucinations away, at least for me) and try to fall back asleep. Either you'll fall asleep (and possibly forget about it) or you'll try to fall asleep for a bit until your paralysis subsides and you can move again. I got a string of sleep paralysis 3 times while sleeping on a buddies couch right after one another, and I learned to just chill and sleep it off.

I was "awake" and I knew I could see a figure next to my bed, but I remember what I read, so I didn't open my eyes at all, but I was scared shitless. This is the real deal and no one should shrug off when someone tells them they have had or continue to have sleep paralysis.

Going to share my experience last night. I’ve had sp 30is times. I’ve never had a demon hallucination thank god but I’ve had the one where I feel like electricity is running through my body in a sense, I’ve had the keep falling back into it. Usually it my own fault on that one because I’m done with the sleep paralysis and I immediately just fall back into it because I was tired and wanted to go back to sleep and that I’ve usually occurs when I’m first laying down for the night. The craziest ones I’ve had were when I’m walking up from sleep in the middle of the night like in 5-6 hours into my sleep and I get sleep paralysis. I had that happen this morning, the Only way I can explain it is my soul wondered off somewhere that I can’t recognize in this world and when I woke up aka the sleep paralysis hit, my soul was rushing to get back to my body so I could in fact wake up and my soul felt this deep sadness I’ve never experienced in life because it didn’t want to leave wherever it was. It felt like it was hanging out with someone it loves very deeply and didn’t want to leave them. That sounds so crazy to even type that in for people to read. When my soul returned to body and I woke up from the sleep paralysis I instantly had tears running down my face and was incredibly sad. So that’s my experience. It sounds crazy but if you’ve ever experienced that please lmk.

In a weird way I kinda like the experience.....because it's FASCINATING. After waking up that is.

I’ve never seen anything dark. I had it this morning when I woke up. I woke up 4 hours before class, before the sun came up, and the room I was in was a completely different setting and it was a dark room. It felt like I couldn’t breathe, move or talk. No matter how hard I tried to lift my head up off of the pillow or call for help, nothing worked. It wore off a few minutes or so after enduring it, but it could’ve been way shorter than a few minutes. Felt like a lifetime, I feel tremendously for those of you who have seen terrifying things.

With me, it's not so much actually seeing them in any detail, they are just dark entities sitting in the shadows waiting and whispering to themselves. I can even see them with my eyes closed, or as if I am looking out the back of my head (kind of like an out of body experience) but as if my eyes were still open. It's such a weird experience. It hasn't happened to me for atleast 6+ months now, but I seem to get clusters of them over a few weeks, then none for ages then get clusters of them again, as much as 2 or 3 times a week. I don't know whether it is related to my diet, or whether it's stress, I don't know. I know it is a horrible experience though.

The first was I was sleeping on my stomach & I felt a masculine figure standing beside me, I didn’t want to open my eyes so I lied there paralyzed, I remember trying to be brave & see what would happen if I “challenged” the figure & I felt my body sink into my bed. I heard this heavy breathing beside me & the entity was whispering things but I only heard the word “power” in a menacing voice. I managed to wake up & went back to bed normally. the morning came & I still wanted to sleep some more. that’s when it happened again but this time I heard banging around my room & I felt like I fell off of my bed with my phone but the next second I was on my bed again. I had the blanket over my eyes a bit so I couldn’t see the entity this time but I felt it’s presence but this time it felt different, I heard it sprinting towards my bed & it jumped on me but when it landed I couldn’t physically feel it. that’s when I opened my eyes now I’m scared to sleep lol

Okay check this: I came straight here after a sleep paralysis episode. I closed on my first house today and was running all morning into the afternoon so my fiance and I decided to take a nap but I ate a donut right before dozing off. Eating before sleep gets the brain going and can induce sleep paralysis which I know cuz it happens to me often but the dream started with a false awakening and we were already in our new house. The tv was on when we fell asleep so the narrator of the UFO show that was on blended with the dream. I mean word for word the show went on. It became apparent something was strange when he began repeating the same statements. I didn't catch on at first cuz it was a good portion of narration that he would say before he started over. In an attempt to break the cycle I grabbed my cell phone screen side up as it was all lit up and after taking a close look at the screen I was worried cuz it was just a blur of light. I flipped it screen side down on the couch where I was sitting but it blipped screen side up. That's when I finally realized "this is a dream". Panic set in as the narrator continued to repeat himself and I had false awakenings over and over until POP. my eyes are wide open and I'm locked in sleep paralysis. The TV is going with the same program that was on when I originally fell asleep. Fortunately I've dealt with sleep paralysis enough that I was finally able to force myself awake. This is the first time I've experienced my own groundhog day and man it was pretty wild and pretty scary once I became lucid to the fact I was stuck in an infinite time loop. Btw if you find yourself locked in yourself. Wiggle your fingers and toes like your life depends on it. Works every time for me anyway. Cheers.

I’ve had sleep paralysis for as long as I can remember. When I was super little (like anywhere from 5-7) it would usually only happen when I was sick (I assume because I’m very tired but like watching tv before going to bed). I never even knew what sleep paralysis was until I was like 18. My whole life I always just thought it was some weird flu. I used to try SCREAMING for my mom and dad but couldn’t speak. I was literally 7 experiencing sleep paralysis for almost 10 minutes just because I didn’t know what I was supposed to do and had no idea how to explain it to my parents, “it’s like you’re super far away and I cant yell. I feel the ceiling getting far away” was the best I could explain it. Super scary even as a 25 yr old and even more so when I was young

Something I'd like to share from my one time experience, our worst fears come before our eyes...I had two episodes around 5am ..I suddenly woke from sleep..felt very tired and felt to close my eyes..but I could not and I couldn't move a muscle...around a min into the suffering I recovered only to fall inro another one...being in a single hostel room..all I could do was think of screaming at the top of my voice to wake up my friend but I couldn't utter a word. Being a medico I tried to assess which only brought more fear..I felt breathlessness and saw VALEK from conjuring 2 ! It was terryfying and it was my bad sleeping habits that predisposed to this condition.

I’ve had sleep paralysis multiple times but not in past 7-8 years. I had no idea what the cause and why I havent experience it again in last many years. However, I noticed its always in afternoon when Sun is really bright on the outside. No I never see any creatures , ghosts or anything like that, basically I could see my surrounding but I couldnt move my body. The only way for me to finally move again is forcing myself to move. I’m not sure how to explain it properly but , I think its basically like you’re very very tired to the point where your body is unable to move… but this is only my assumption based on experience.

I think it's the same for me. I fortunately have never seen or felt anything like a demon or whatever. I would usually get it early in the morning when I wake up, but am trying to fall back to sleep since it's so early. I'm guessing that although my body is still tired, my mind is already awake and ready to go, and my body falls asleep before I'm fully able to. And to wake my body up, I would have to will myself to lunge out of bed, it takes a while and my body feels so heavy, but eventually I'll be able to be released.

Happened to me last night. Didn’t think it happened more than once but as soon as I was gonna nod off it happened again. Like four times. It’s the weirdest feeling in the world. I couldn’t move and I was awake, but I wasn’t. At least my eyes were open. And I was hearing things as if still dreaming.

I just had it an hour ago for the first time and now again. The first time it was 3:26am and had it again now at 4:44am. The first time felt like I was entering a dream like, u know when a movie shows a transition of entering a dream and it all becomes wavy on the screen thats what I felt. And I couldn’t move , speak or even open my eyes and I felt a presence with me in my room. Now, I could open my eyes but still not move or speak. When I did open my eyes I saw a woman standing beside me. At first the woman looked like my grandma who is very much still alive but then it changed to a more demonic looking thing. I also tried to scream to try and alert my parents and I didn’t work, it sounded more like I was humming screams very silently. It’s really scary and I’m not gonna sleep today even tho I have school in a few hours idc.

Happened to me plenty of times, mostly I'd wake from sleep but I can't move, my eyes are closed. Sometimes it probably happens in the middle of my sleep cycle. This has happened to me three times just this year. Obviously not very often but the first was towards the end of March, third was July and then just last night. I’m trying to educate myself on what this is and how to prevent it and what not. Last night my experience was the worst ever. I was fully aware of what was happening and naturally I couldn’t speak or move but I also felt like I couldn’t breathe. As for me I was seeing a disfigured shadow. I was actually trying to yell for help but I couldn’t. I woke up right at 5am and after waking it was over. I couldn’t go back to sleep so I stayed awake till I had to go to work. I was so cold and freezing too even tho my apartment is set to 70°. I had visioned a close friend of mine trying to wake me up then cause I saw myself in third person and they were holding me as if I had died or something. Then as I begged for help it was as if they saw a ghost and a look of disgust was in their face. Idk man. That’s the gods honest truth. That’s what I remember. It was terrifying. Like a spiritual battle over me between good and evil. It’s not that deep but that’s my experience.

Last night I had sleep paralysis for the second time ever. The first time it was pleasant for about 5 seconds as I watched drops filled with multi-colored dreams stream down. Then it became terrifying when I tried to understand what I was experiencing which is when I realized I could not move. At that time I sensed someone standing at the door and I became more desperate to move but couldn't. Finally I forcefully pulled out of it and woke up screaming. Last night was my second experience with it and it brings me back to the concept that maybe sometimes the things we dream are not from our own minds. I have noted many times that I will dream something and think that there is no way my imagination or even my sub-conscious mind came up with it because it is portraying concepts or ideas completely unknown to me. Like there's no way I or my mind could make that up because I don't know about it. Anyway last night I had sleep paralysis and this time it was so freaky. Suddenly I was trapped on my bed and I could not move. Then I heard truly one of the most disturbing sounds I have ever heard. Right behind me like on the floor something was making the most terrifying sounds. It was like Golem from Lord of the Rings but not saying words just making the absolute most insane verbal noises I have ever heard. It wasn't growling and it wasn't talking. It was some horrible psycho babble in between but sounding like Golem. I swear it must have been a low level demon. My tactic for dealing with it this time was different though. For a brief second I had a thought of clarity and I knew this was sleep paralysis. I was terrified yet I decided to go toward the sound of the low level psycho demon. I could not move and so it took all of my strength to roll off the side of the bed which was happening in my mind. I cannot stress enough the Herculian effort it took just to roll off the side of the bed in my mind. My goal was to squeeze the little demons neck until its head popped like a balloon. I overrode the fear with extreme anger. This time I was going to strangle the demon. So my consciousness rolled over and began to fall into a black pit. I could still hear the most psychotic and terrifying verbal garble that I have ever heard and as I was falling I managed to force my consciousness out of it which is actually quite difficult to do. I woke up and realized okay that was sleep paralysis but the sound of the demon was so realistic and so foreign to my own mind that it makes you really wonder if you are stepping foot into real alternate dimensions and encountering real entities.

I have been having weird sleep paralysis events last couple of weeks. I get a scary loud hurricane sound/feeling in my head and a feeling of insane pressure forcing me flat, almost like a hurricane right on top of me. Last night I was awake listening to an audio book to relax off to sleep and got hit with a force that was like an impact of something going through my entire body, it almost hit with a Bang! I'm scared to go to sleep tonight, Im down to about 3-4 hours a night of rough sleeping. I used to get this years ago and thought I had out grown it, but it seems to have come back with a passion. Imagine a 57 year old man scared to go to sleep, crazy eh, I Have talked to my doctor, he suggested anti-depressants but I have had terrible experiences on various meds so hopefully it will just go away eventually before I go totally crazy.

I remember going through sleep paralysis daily when I was in college and it’s a frightening thing, at some point I was so use to it it became more of like what was I going to experience this time when I was about to wake up. Some techniques I found that helped me and might help someone else who is going through this is first that it’s all in your mind, despite it being so real it’s all made up. With that you can slowly determine what’s real and what’s fake, then once you finally realize just take big breathes even with the pressure, close your eyes, focus on your breathing, relax your muscles, then you’ll wake out of it. It’s really just tricking your mind, no matter how scary it is the biggest thing is just relaxing. I know it doesn’t sound easy but it really is that easy. Hopefully this can help somebody
