In this video I have sewed the September Walking coat by Merchant and Mills for my husband. I comes in the following sizes.
Size UK set 6-18
Bust 45-55”
Waist 46-56
Hip 48-58
Size UK set 18- 28
Bust 55-67.5”
Waist 56.5-65”
Hip 59-71”
Then I modified the Ilford Jacket designed by Friday Pattern Co.
Lastly, I added some need volume in the hips and upper thighs to my Barry Pants, designed by StyleArc.
Hi, My Name is Kathy and I love to sew, especially garments, for myself, my friend and my family. I like to believe I’m on a minimalist journey and will share my closet with you. Five years ago, I started sewing garments after my daughter asked me to teach her to sew and I realized I had forgotten most things! Next came finding social media for sewing and then indy patterns. Currently I sew almost everyday and love to share this passion with you.

Thank-you for watching! If you have the time, watch to the end so I can get monitored soon! I need watched hours.

I have the same problem with stitching down facings and such with "stitch in the ditch". It never works for me unless I baste first. Love the coats btw. Great video

Hi Kathy! I do so much better when I do “slow sewing”. To me it means taking my time, thinking things through and executing with no pressure or time limits. I enjoy it so much more! Your husband’s coat came out so well! I don’t know if I’ve ever done a boxed pleat that was lined. Seems a bit intimidating for me, but you are fearless!🙂 I have a slow sewing day planned today😊

Such a wonderful project and what a wonderful gift! 💙Like you I really like M&M patterns. I just finished my 2nd Fielder Top with another in progress. Made their Miller Waistcoat this summer and the welts almost buried me. I’m definitely making another.

Your husband's coat came out very nice. To me, slow sewing means taking your time to pay attention to details and the quality of the construction and fit. It doesn't necessarily mean that it will take a long time. I can spend hours in my sewing room so I could still finish a slow sewing project in one or two days. Nice save on the Ilford cuffs!

Hello Kathy! That September Coat looks so great!!! You did such a wonderful job with it. I can't believe how many pocket pieces...that'd definitely slow things down! Great fixes and saves on your Ilford and Barrys. It seems to be the thing right now to amend memades. I've been doing that a fair bit. Last week I totally unpicked a pair of denim bobs that I love but that were too big, and resewed them with bigger seam allowances. Now they're perfect and they're all I want to wear! Anyway, thanks so much for sharing. Have a great weekend! x

I am glad you saved your denim Bobs. How heavy is the denim? I made them in lightweight 4 oz. denim and love them.

Re the Barrie vs Bob pants: I made the Bob pants, in kind of a fun but dark pattern. In the end I felt they were too exaggerated for regular wear, so I took the curve in 2" on each side, but left the waist alone, since I had already cut out one size smaller after hearing peoples' comments. I was looking at the Barrie, and normally try not to spend $$ on patterns, when similar. Did you think it was worth getting the separate pattern? Did you downsize and that is why they didn't have the fit you wanted? Is the waist lower than the Bob waist? If you have a chance to answer all these questions, lovely, but no worries. Thanks for your videos, I like the detail that you talk about, and the coats are very cool :)

I too hesitated getting two similar patterns. I bought in blind faith that the comments were beneficial to me. And yes, I think you could own both. The Barry waist is lower. I think I did downsize, but not 110% certain. If you try the Barry's, I think you will like them since you have taken in the Bob's. And the Barry's have much better pockets.
