Lived there for a year about 20 years ago. My heart kind of skipped a beat as you were going down the hill on the bus. Did that commute countless times. Use to walk out of the house in bare feet and go for a surf every morning. I miss 2035.

It is a very unique place , I could definitely see why people enjoy living there . Riding the bus down directly to a beach was first for me , and probably the best city bus ride I have ever taken .

You probably already know by now but just in case you don’t… At all the Sydney beaches with rocky headlands at each end, it’s those ends that are the most dangerous for the inexperienced. You noticed that the “floor” dipped down as you waded out well that dip has been dug by a rip current. These typically form where the in-rushing water from the surf finds its way back out to sea, taking everything with it (water, sand and swimmers) and can almost always be found at the rocky ends of a beach as well as at intervals along the beach. The safe places to surf have been indicated for you by the lifeguards/surf lifesaver volunteers placing two separated red+yellow flags in the sand, with the safe part being between the flags and only between the flags. In general, beware of the deeper-looking, calmer-looking stretches of water where the waves are not actively breaking as that is a surefire sign of a rip current, either a lateral rip taking you along the beach or what I like to call a New Zealand Express, taking you straight out to sea towards New Zealand. The lateral rips usually join together and then form a New Zealand Express with double the strength.

" New Zealand Express " !? 😅 funny but serious . Great tip about the rocky parts of the beach and looking out for the calmer surface waves as the place where rips form-up. I Definitely need to give more attention to the safe zone flags , and not get hypnotized by the beauty of the water and surf. Multiple rips joining together sounds like one of the worse situations a swimmer can be in . Thank-you for the comment and taking the time to share that insight.

@@tayinternationalalso if you get stuck in a rip the first rule is to raise your arm so the lifeguards spot you. If there is no life savers float with it. It will usually take you out about 1-2 hundred metres. Then swim to the side and come in with the waves. The surfers use rips to get out quickly. Dr Rip does great videos explaining this.

Since they ran the sewerage pipes further from shore the big difference is that you're not dodging cigar fish in the breakers. A great improvement.

Good on you for trying the less touristy beaches, you should visit Cronulla, it's easy to get to by train from the city and there's lots of great food and bars.

I grew up on Maroubra beach. Its my second fave beach. I was always drawn to Coogee over Maroubra.

Wait till you see what Queensland has for you, come up and swim in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Pure paradise. I recommend August, it’s hot enough, but not melting. But please, no matter what, swim between the flags, don’t be deceived by nice looking water, or some locals who swim like fish because it’s their backyard, our beaches can be very dangerous. Always swim between the flags. Really nice video, I hope you’re enjoying your stay 🇦🇺

If you can, try some beaches out of Sydney. Central Coast is 1hr north of Sydney, and beaches are more natural. Ocean Beach, Bouddhi Bouddhi National Park , Bateau Bay many to choose from.

Ironicly, the beaches in the top three positions on this years best list are in Tasmania, South Australia and at number one, Squeaky Beach in Victoria.

That’s not a beach, THIS is a beach…. Says Perth 😉
@tayinternational6 ай бұрын
I actually do need to make it out to Perth sometime and see how the city and its beaches there compare .
@Quinctili6 ай бұрын
@tayinternational , that's just the beginning. From Esperance around the SW Capes, then Perth, all the way North to Broome, they win World's Best Beach, EVERY YEAR. It's almost embarrassing. Perth is easily the most beautiful modern, clean, safe and sunny city in the world. To get started Google; Perth and Swan River from Kings Park. Scroll from there.

Nice video, this is my beach, if you walked further to the southern end of the beach near the car park it’s the start of the beautiful coastalwalk that takes you to Malabar Headland, fairly soon it’s the start of whale migration & this area is where you’ll see lots of whales & dolphins. Enjoy the rest of your journey
@tayinternational6 ай бұрын
I would really like to see a Whale migration ! Can you witness from the shore or is it only with a boat tour of some kind ?

As a teen , my “westie” classmates always warned that Maroubra was the most dangerous beach to swim, with rips, undertows and the “bra boys”! 😂
@tayinternational6 ай бұрын
I actually did not know about how dangerous it was until I started editing this video and had to look up some facts , but I noticed as soon as I felt the " beach floor " and the current that it could get crazy very quickly .

Great beach. It’s pronounced Ma-roo-bra.
@Danger_Mouse36196 ай бұрын
If you do get caught in a rip dont panic and don't swim against it. Swim out of it diagonally. Once out then swim back to shore. If the beach is patrolled by lifesavers if you need help for what ever reason you put an arm up to be rescued. The kids you saw being teached are called nippers due to their young age and are in a life saving club.
@tayinternational6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the that important information. Those kids are little lifesavers in training ? I thought they were just learning how to surf , next time I will have to try to get an interview with one of them and the parents.

The shitest beach in sydney is still a million times better then the best beach in melbourne. Sydney and the whole coast of nsw is paradise

No doubt Sydney has beautiful beaches but so does Melbourne, especially further along the coast, the Bellarine peninsula, as well as Portsea & Sorrento. the Apollo road, Lorne, etc etc.
