@James Henry Smith Because the biggest characteristic of Korean society is to expose the problems of society. South Koreans don't lie, critical to themselves, critical to their own society, outspoken, direct, express social criticism in the drama, film. I mean how you could think expressing the bad aspects of the society is a bad thing?

The greatest enemy of Asian soft power is the concept of Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Fetishization. So long as Westerners are shamed by these concepts for appreciating Asian/Eastern culture, the amount of influence soft power will have in the West will have a very small ceiling and remain niche. There is a growing resentment and backlash towards non-Western cultural influence in the West. While Nationalists play a role in this backlash and shaming, the fiercest condemnation of Asian soft power comes from the Social Justice community.

BANG ON, It's weird since British/American culture has been allowed to become the norm worldwide with it's clothing, language and traditions dominating whilst Asian and even African clothing and traditions are seen to be only for the people within these nations or have originated from there.
@yuyu5375
@yuyu5375 3 жыл бұрын
@@sdprz7893 Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that those countries you named have a history of imperialism and forcing their cultures onto other countries ... meanwhile Asians and Africans would be discriminated against for openly expressing and partaking in their own culture. Why not let Africans and Asians (re)claim their cultures authentically before the same people who hated on them start to dilute, disrespect, and misrepresent them ?

It's not due to 'social justice' Most people just consider it a bit childish and aren't that invested in other cultures, people in the Usa and the UK aren't going to be speaking Chinese any time soon.

I love how Japan's popular culture has been performing very well in this past decade. Manga is now dominating the North American and European comic markets while the global anime industry has more than doubled in size thanks to streaming services increasing the international availability of anime shows. I'm very happy Japan continues the pursuit for spreading it's own media around the world.

This is not power, this is submission. There are only three ways to get someone to submit, voluntarily submission, submission through trade, and submission through coercion. You can have the power to get someone to submit using one or more of these methods but submission and power are two different things

I believe japan should to rehost its 2020 Olympic games twice in a future date (2020 is a rare year number) since the year doesnt matter much and we should focus slowly on launching japans soft power again when the time is right to host a post pandemic games of tokyo 2020 . Same old ideas from the creative team , same stadium but with full support of the public, more reform in IOC and preparedness to host it .on the right moment.

People are not aware that Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore have hidden soft power they are just not shown in the media example, Philippines having a small influence in timor leste and their massive young scholars who works abroad people might think those are immigrants but they are not they go abroad to find work and most develop country seek those young talented Filipino because they are cheap , efficient, well educated and are used to different cultures since the Philippines are so diverse that's why most of the nurses , doctors, engineers and teachers in most of 1st world country are Filipino Put that in your mind if the Philippines decided that to abolished the contracts of those Filipino workers they can create a great leverage towards other nations that's why Philippines have one of the biggest foreign reserves in Asia Indonesia have the same influence as the Philippines the difference is that they have a huge economy and they do give a lot of humanitarian aid to a lot of nations the media might not cover it but the people of those nations know that Indonesian have been sending them humanitarian aid they even have an embassy in north korea can have a voice in the islamic world. Singapore is the Switzerland of south east Asia just that sentence alone give them credibility in the region . Crazy how people can overlook those small nations influence.

Very poor research.... India has a superior softpower compared to china... And you attribute Indias softpower to Arundhiti roy?? Really..? India is the only country that never persecuted jews... It has hinduism...buddhism...sikhism.. All asian countries are somehow culturally related to India.. India is the only country that has equal good relationship with both US and Russsia.. There is no country you cant find Indian diaspora in good positions..
