St Kilda's ceiling is as high as top 4 in my view because Ross Lyon is that good a Coach and historically his teams always take a huge step up in Year 2. Think of St Kilda in 2008 going from 9th to 4th and Fremantle back in 2013 going from 7th to 3rd.

I'm a Kiwi living now in Christchurch. I lived in Melbourne from 1966 to 1976. I started because of my friend going to Morrabin at age 9, to support the Saints in April 1966. My friends father took us to the grand final. A dsy I'll never forget, go St Kilda, go All Blacks.

The AFL cannot possibly completely eliminate all concussions, it happens even in no contact sport. At some point it does just become an inherent risk of playing a sport. So long as the AFL and clubs are using best practice that's available at the time there's literally nothing more that can be done.

No one is forced to play AFL. Everyone knows the risks so you make the choice. I ride a motorbike - I choose to ride a motorbike. The decision is mine and therefore I take responsibility for the risks associated.

Are players employed (contracted) by the AFL or clubs? both AFL and clubs have and are continually making changes to make the game safer. It is more important that these changes are driven down the line to all junior clubs and enforced as juniors and social players don't get compensated or included in the stats or legal cases. There are far more players in the junior and social sector than the professional sector. Do we stop players from becoming professional if they have had head knocks in junior footy? Are they being recorded?
@gazzdav8 ай бұрын
Players know the risk involved in playing AFL accidental contact to the head is part of the game the AFL can only do so much to prevent injuries. It comes back to you taking a risk of injury and death when you drive a motor vehicle are we going to start taking legal action against car manufacturers for putting everyone at risk.
@bencivelli43198 ай бұрын
The AFL can't eliminate concussion. And it happens in non contact sport too, obviously not as often. The advance technology and the change in paractises on and off the field, for example Brayshaws retirement, the Afl has affirmed the players safety during and after playing. Theres 100 plus ex players in a lawsuit with the AFL but at the time there was minimal technology and own clubs and doctors had the responsibility and history and manifest of all players so the AFL i thought set really good rules and penalties and safety was apparent. But the lawsuit has entitlement and it should be the last of it though. What level of compensation is so hard to work out. Lawyers make a fortune in this case.

If after round 10 rounds saints are 7 wins and 3 losses or better - saints will be TOP 4 and contending ! 10 games at marvel out of last 13. - Best running/fastest side - Best defensive side - Tim Membery and Max King are both fit (unlike last year) - All new recruits will incrementally add value to the side. (For e.g Liam Henry X factor in the middle etc.) The reason behind pessimism around the saints (I believe) is because they’ve not done much in the last 10-12 years (irrelevant in other words). So most reporters aren’t taking notice of what is ACTUALLY happening at RSEA park. Outsiders may not see it but insiders know the group is gelling well together, all the coaches are passionate about st kilda and Ross the boss has unfinished business. Memberships all time high, merchandise sales all time high, training attendance is chockers. Keep writing them off - they seem to thrive being underdogs ✌️

Yep. Henry, Wilson, Collard, Schoenmaker etc. have been great acquisitions, and will add that much needed speed that was severely lacking in the final vs GWS. We're already the joint-fittest team in the comp. As long as most of our guns stay fit, King explodes and cements himself as a superstar, Steele gets back to 2021 form etc., we're for sure gonna be a top 4 fancy

I still laugh at media always talking up fringe players moving to other clubs and becoming great AFL players, the success rate is about 20% - I’ve now heard many times this preseason how good Riley Bonner will be at the Saints, how good Chris Burgess will be at the Crows and how James Jordan will be a gun at the Swans.

The AFL could put 100 new rules in, make everyone wear helmets and touch footy. It's still up to a player to decide to smash into another's face. The players play the game. The players are the ones making physical contact. And the clubs are the ones that are responsible for the mindset the players are in before taking the field. How can the AFL be 100% responsible for the actions taken within a well defined framework?

@TAW8568 ай бұрын
Sammy Edmund 🤣🤣🤣 He went after Maynard on Friday and now he is trying to say he knows better than a legend of the game in Nathan Buckley. As the AFLs stance is: Players know the risks. No one is forced to play the game. They are extremely well compensated for that risk through money and other opportunities that the average person doesnt has access to. There is only so much the AFL can do to minimise head contact in a physical sport played by professional male athletes before the game no longer resembles footy. As Bucks said, there will always be incidental contact that you cannot legislate out of the game.

Do people forget West Coast won the premiership 5 seasons ago. In an ideal competition, every team wins a grand final every 18 seasons. So they have still got 13 more seasons to get their team that good enough. Its a cycle and im Carlton but u reckon West Coast will not take another 13 seasons to win their next premiership. Their cycle is faster than most. I was 16 and there at Carltons last one. Now you know my age, and ive got grey hair coming through.

St Kilda is a low to mid tier list with a top tier coach, they were only in the finals because of luck and an easy draw last year. They play Port, Brisbane and Geelong twice this year which will be harder than more people expect as Port and Brisbane were top 4 last year and Geelong is a chance for top 4 if they stay healthy.

Yeah, we got lucky last year, but don't forget injuries hampered us big time. We've now addressed one of the significant weakness in our team, which was speed. Membrey, King and Higgins together will go a long way towards addressing our lack of firepower and goals from last year. As long as most of our boys stay fit, we should be a lock for top 8
