Gaia Rose Can you visit Boots Library if you’re in the Clifton Campus? And do you know what the Clifton Campus is like?
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Harry H you can visit any of the 3 NTU libraries on each NTU campus as long as you have your student ID to use on the doors, which you’ll be given in freshers. I’ve only been to Clifton twice but it’s bigger than City and is the home for NTU sports (the Lee Westwood centre has so many facilities and equipment, they also have several pitches and courts). Clifton also has its own observatory and several state of the art labs. Even though it’s 20 minutes from the city centre, you can get a bus straight from city to clifton perfect for nights out ✨ Hope this helps! 😊

@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Awesome to hear you're possibly coming to NTU! I work part time at company where I was able to transfer easily to their Nottingham pubs when I arrived so I didn't need to go looking again, however it is really easy to get a job in the city, there's always vacancies going. In regards to sports at NTU, we have over 100s of different clubs/teams and you can check all of them out in taster sessions during freshers week. We also have state of the art courts and astroturfs. You can join the NTU gym for around £10 a month and you have unlimited access to loads of equipment and fitness classes. It can be quite nerve wracking at first settling into university so NTU hosts several events throughout freshers week to get you settled in and to help you get to know people on your course. Also if you like nights out, we have course reps who will help chaperone you and others to each nightclub and pres during freshers week so you always have someone to go to if you need someone.

what do you think is the most sociable accommodation and Byron worth the money do you think?
@GaiaRoseChannel3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on which campus you study on but if it’s City I think Byron & Gill Street South/Gill Street North are the most sociable. Sandby too possibly due to the fact you share 2 kitchens with 24 people. That’s a hard question regarding being worth the money because it depends what you consider is worth your money, pros: Byron is sociable, right on campus and is modern and clean + you get an en-suite. Cons: it can be very loud from all the parties - if you’re one of those people who don’t like noise, If you stay in A block you’ll smell cigarette smoke constantly on nights where they SU’s smoking area is open and you’ll be woken up by the rubbish men. If you want to have a social experience but it still be relatively quiet I would recommend living on the other side of Byron in like blocks like F. Hope this helps 🤍

I want to study paramedic science at trent but the course is taught at Clifton. Would living on city campus be okay for travelling from campus to campus, are the busses regular(if it’s a uni bus thing is it free) ??x
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah defo! Even though some would say staying on Clifton campus is better for ease and means you get a lie in/can go home more in between lectures, I know quite a few people who live on City campus and travel to Clifton for their lectures (because of the city nightlife/bigger variety of shops/bigger opportunities for part time jobs) so depends what you’d prefer. There’s a specific NTU bus that drives directly to and from Clifton campus every 7 mins each day and I think unless you buy a bus pass, you have pay £1.20-2.00 fare for a single. The bus journey is approx 20-30 mins each way. You can also get a tram to Clifton I think as well but it takes slightly longer. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions 😊xx

Gaia Rose thankyou so much, this definitely helps. See id want to stay at the city for better night life and shops also more people being there. It’s hard because the distance. But thankyou this definitely helped:) xx

No worries, in that case I’d advise staying on City if you want those and if you don’t mind missing out on being able to go home slightly more in between lectures 😊 It’s definitely doable though xx

Hi, thinking of going to NTU to study sport I was wondering if being situated at the Clifton campus would be annoyingly out the way from the student union and the night life or is it relatively easy to get into the main part of the city from there? and does Clifton have a gym or just city?
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Charlie JW Hi, really sorry that I didn’t explain it clearer but even though I only show photos of the City Library & SU, all NTU campuses do have their own SU, Gym and Library. Clifton is only a 10-20 min drive from the city so they operate buses throughout the day and specific night buses so you are able to travel between. So you’ll be fine regarding a night out. Clifton has a bigger gym than City, think I attached a photo in the video, where it hosts several state of the art tennis courts and sports facilities. Clifton is pretty much home for NTU sport so you’ll regularly see different teams playing out on the fields on campus. Pretty sure those are state of the art too, with flood lights and think we have an AstroTurf. The City SU is bigger than the Clifton SU but that doesn’t stop you having great nights out or pres at Clifton’s. I’ll happily do another video talking about what’s available at each campus, if that would help 😊

@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Hey that’s amazing that you’re coming to study at NTU! I’ve found the psychology department to be really good, in year 1 they make sure everyone is on the same page academically and they offer a variety of support throughout the 3 years. Us current students haven’t been told that much but from what they have said it will be a mix of online and face to face teaching. I’m guessing they’re gonna keep lectures mostly online as the lecture halls are for like 300-500 people so it’s gonna be very difficult to social distance. However seminars are typically taught in classes of 10-60 people so I think they’re gonna try to keep those going but space out all of the tables and make us wear masks on campus. I think they will do a one way system too around campus. Regarding jobs, I was lucky to transfer to mine but it is very easy to find one as Nottingham is filled with shops and eateries, plus companies are always looking to hire students. NTU’s Student Union also hire people and offer staff discounts/free entry to their club nights. Hope this helps! ☺️

How do you the psychology department at NTU? I’ve been looking at educational or child psychology but have heard mixed reviews about the teaching for psychology
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
In my last two years here, I’ve found the NTU psychology department to be really supportive and helpful. Obviously you’re gonna get some lecturers who do know their stuff slightly more than others but on the whole I don’t have many criticisms. You’re assigned a personal psychology tutor too who can help you with any uni related or personal issues. Are you planning on doing single hons psychology or psychology combined with another course, such as sociology or criminology? I’ve heard for single honours they do offer a pathway in second year where you can specialise more so you could possibly pick something related to educational/child psychology. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more queries! 😊
@niamhfarrell84824 жыл бұрын
Gaia Rose thank you so much! I’m thinking of doing educational or childhood psychology i haven’t completely decided because I’m not 100% sure on which career to go for.
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
No worries, if I were you I wouldn’t put pressure on yourself to decide on what to specialise on this early. Personally I still haven’t even finalised what exact area of psychology I want to explore myself. Just focus on finding the right general psychology course for you that does include a range of topics including the educational/child ones you like and hopefullly in a few years you’ll have a better understanding on what you want to specialise in, as your interests might change over time. That’s the beauty of psychology - it’s so broad and let you explore a variety of things✨
@niamhfarrell84824 жыл бұрын
Gaia Rose thank you that makes a lot of sense i’ve been worrying about which course and if i go to specific on a course will i still have a variety of career options if that makes sense? do you have any courses at ntu that you know will be around those areas as i know i definitely want to work with kids in the future i always have but want to do more than teaching go for the psychology side of it too.
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Niamh Farrell It’s alright and yeah that’s totally understandable, I was the same when I was in your position hence why I chose the combined honours course with criminology so I wouldn’t miss out on the crim modules but could still do psychology. I know the single hons Psychology course at NTU does give you the chance to explore education & child psychology, especially in third year, I’m pretty sure it’s one of the optional modules. Even though combined honours (psychology with crim/soc/law) lets you explore an additional course alongside psychology, mine again being criminology, because it’s 50/50 you still get psychology modules and in third year the majority of the course shifts to psychology so even then I would be able to access education & child modules if I wanted to. So it depends whether you’d rather just study 100% psychology or add something like sociology, doing combined won’t affect your opportunities later down the line it just allows you to learn more about a different topic alongside psychology. Sorry if this paragraph is super long haha but if you do like the other aspects of uni life that NTU has to offer, I would highly recommend either the single hons psychology course or the combined hons psychology courses 😊

Is NTU accepting of like lgbtq? Saw a video on KZbin from Nottingham that was very homophobic and now I’m worried about going there since It’s my firm!
@GaiaRoseChannel4 жыл бұрын
Harry Oliver Hey, from my own personal experience and what friends have said, NTU has been a really welcoming uni and constantly supports the LGBTQ+ community. Nottingham also has its own pride during the summer, which has always had such a positive reception in the city. So far, I’ve never experienced or seen homophobia when I’ve been on nights out in Notts. However, like every city, unfortunately I can’t guarantee Notts isn’t free of homophobia because negative people exist everywhere I’m afraid. Don’t let that affect your feelings about coming here though, I promise you NTU is such a forward thinking uni and there’s still a lot of love here 😊 Hope this relieves some anxiety xx
