What is Super Metroid: Project Base?

This is an informative video on the incredibly popular rom hack of Super Metroid called Project Base. I try to explain exactly what the game is and what it has to offer in hopes that newer runners or players will find an interest and push to really get out there and give this game a fair shot. Something I'd like to add to this video, Project Base isn't just a fun time for speedrunners, it's also great for casual players too! The improved cohesiveness and immersiveness of planet Zebes and Samus' more flexible movement means that it's a joy to play even for people who haven't put hundreds of hours into Super Metroid. As proof, I'd played Super Metroid several times when I was younger, but the first time I ever actually beat it was while playing Project Base! Its quality-of-life improvements and even greater emphasis on freedom of exploration captured my heart even more than the vanilla game, so I encourage everyone to give this one a shot!

I only finished super because of project lmao, actually, i finished it three times! The first playthrough was 7 hours, the second one was 3, and the third one was 2 hours

Hello. Im currently new and started a playthrough of the game. I just landed on the planet. Do i need an upgrade to do the backflip? how do you do it?

@eyixon backflip can be done from the second you start the game. While crouched, hold run then press and hold jump and the opposite direction you’re facing and she’ll backflip

Things the hack hasn’t improved yet: -The map showing you the doors and if the item is collected or not. -The ice beam act like it did in Zero Mission. (only freezing enemy’s you want to freeze, instead of enemies dies in two hits instead of one.) -Super missiles (once you’ve collected enough super missiles, you never need to use regular missiles again. This can easily be solved if they where an upgrade for the missiles like in Fusion, Prime and Hyper) -Missile stations refill ALL weapons. (These things are useless, since they start showing up when you’ve found super missiles at that point.) Things that I (personally) disagree with: -The map stations being removed (I kinda miss them. They where sort of like power ups on their own. It was always a joy to find them, because they let me get to know the layout a little better. It’s the little things you know) -Replacing the beautiful cloudy, rainy, detailed background in Crateria with a boring black screen with dots. Other than that, I agree with everything else added to the game.

I have to agree with the maps I definitly like the map stations in the original game. I love having both the gameplay of discovering the mystery of an empty map and then the satisfaction of being able to see the main routes and plan in advance. You cant also please everyone, need to find that tight balance

hey, just your casual teen here! i've played metroid hyper metroied before but i NEVER knew about project base, and so, before i make my own comment on that HM video, i'll write what i think. first off; this is basically samus if she went absolutely barbaric, "just because". and i REALLY like the tweaked moveset here! so that's why i liked hyper metroid with one of many reasons, its really super cool to have see an actual quality of life kind of mod/rom hack onto something like this, since its unusual, at least for me. this is basically super metroid if you wanted to have fun/more fun, IF you're used to the tweaked moveset. ...and if anyone questions, i found hyper metroid on arcadespot. but yeah, i would LOVE this rom hack.

I liked your hyper metroid video, figured i should check this out too. You do good at these kinds of videos. Once again i like the suit changes done in this hack. Though im unsure if its just your recording settings, or a result of the environmental coloring, but this suit reminds me of the smash 64 model of samus. The colors pop more than they do in the regular super metroid rom. The environments are very nice too, just like hyper. I assume its made by the same person(s).

The suit is definitely altered slightly to pop more color-wise. Haha I can totally see the smash 64 in there. I think it might be a little of the fact that I recorded this first video off of my Sd2snes OBS game feed instead of how I do it now in a emulator with Max resolution and in a lossless format. Lol. Oops.

Does it include the control changes that you would find in something like Control Freak? The GBA Style rom hack turns Super Metroid into a 10/10 for me.

On the Project Base page there should be a separate page on there that has all the alternate downloads. You’ll wanna look for the “vanilla palette” version. They have all sorts of physics changes for it too

One has the custom project base color palettes and the (vanilla) one has the original super Metroid color palettes but expanded in color. Both play exactly the same

@@wiiztec in newer versions her “floatiness” is reverted back to vanilla style. In older versions she hung in air for a little bit longer. I think it feels like she’s floaty because the spin speed hex has been altered slightly, but no, logistically it’s the same as the vanilla game
