What Is Swimrun and Why You Should Try It

Interesting sport. What do you do if you have to wear prescription glasses to see? Since you're going in and out of the water several times, i'm trying to think how you would keep prescription sunglasses safe/dry when swimming and using prescription goggles. Obviously, I'm the one who's very nearsighted who needs the prescription 😀🤓🤓🤓🤓.

There are prescription swim googles that you can get, but everyone that I know that need glasses have their teammate sight for them in the water. Then they just carry prescription (sports style) glasses with them in their wetsuit. It's not uncommon to carry nutrition and fluids (soft flasks) in this sport. Most wetsuits have pockets for such. I also wear a swimrun specific shirt under my wetsuit that also has pockets

Thomas Lemaire, yessir. I’ve used them. There are several companies making shoes with swimrun in mind.

@@SpeedyLizard didn't know. I'm new to the sport... trying to aim for Ötillö and I feel like I've made fairly good choice. They are super light and I was able to hit on avg 3:45/4:00 min/km confortably with them. I've won a small swimrun with it just today (SwimRun Elite de Cergy in France) and finish 11/190 last week in St Lunaire France. I might have to switch to a stronger teamate as mine is not able to maintain 1:15/1:20 per 100m in the water...

@@sheiro76 Good choice. I use them for some of my races, but not all of them. They're good for technical, rocky running and off trail use. They're not as comfortable on road and/or very hardpacked trail. To their defense, they're not designed for road, so I didn't expect them to. There's a couple of races in the U.S. that include lots of pavement, so I choose different shoes for those. As for OtillO, the long (~20km) run has a lot of pavement, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, they are a very good choice for OtillO. The black, slippery rocks will be very slippery no matter what shoe you choose, so also expect that. Congrats on your win!
