What are the negatives of this technology? Are the public still involved in the bigger picture, or are just being viewed as blind objects being told and operated upon?

Why does this sounds so much like Eugenics/Race Science to me sold under a compassionate label🤔. Changing skin color , thickness...hmmm I give her credit for saying we don't know the long term effects. It was an interesting conversation but also terrifying. If corporations and governments didn't have the will power to put aside short term interests to avert climate change, does anyone seriously think genetically altering future generations is a better solution? Really?

You are mislead, Sir! There is a living G'D in heaven who is the CREATOR of LIFE! HE will JUDGE each single human as far as HIS OWNERSHIP of all life is concerned: What did YOU do with your G'D-given life? Did you honor your CREATOR JESUS CHRIST or did you fall prey to the devils pride and think you are your own ? Think about it and chose life instead of death!

Impressive discussion. I'm fortunate to be able to appreciate it. The fact that too many regular people and probably 80% of our lawmakers lack the education to understand the topic is sad. I've had 2 semesters with molecular biology I "might" have been able to understand this discussion after one. We seriously need to ungrade our educational standards like yesterday. We may not need this to make the progress but no way in hell it can be properly implemented AND safeguarded without a broader base of understanding.

true, but with that you can also anticipate a multitude of disastrous outcomes from unanticipated factors and interactions; with other genes, pathways, environ factors etc effecting expression.

She touches upon interesting points, sure. But, I'm really surprised she stated that people from other parts of the world have "different ethics and values" from "us" - in this case, China, yes, a politically easy and safe target. But still, really? I do not think "people" in this world, wherever they come from, regardless of political affiliations (such as democrat or republican), would naturally have any major "different ethics and values". We are all human beings, and we share the same humanity. Even for some arguably more extreme case, e.g., people from North Korea, I do not think they have fundamentally different ethics and values. In fact, I would argue even animals, such as dogs, share quite a lot of similar ethics with us humans. This woman may be smart in some aspect, but her general and tone-deaf statement on others' ethics indicates that she might be the dangerous one ethics-wise.

With regard to a single question: while you have a right to bodily autonomy, you do not own your genome. You don't need to resort to science fiction and speculation. Identical twins have the same genome, and one twin has no right over what the other does with their genetic material. The genome is just a descriptor. Your genetic material cannot be forcibly collected from your body (without due process), but discarded genetic material is no different than leaving a fingerprint on a disposable cup and throwing it in the trash.
