Spectacular. I love your point of view about how occasionally moving from one app to another it's not a loss because you are bringing with you the lessons learned from the previous app. I am looking forward to your course are Tana. It reminds me a little bit of Dynalist which was mysteriously powerful. I wrote entire television scripts on it. I am a huge believer and combining Notes and tasks and hopefully writing in general. There are huge advantages to having your tasks be in immediate context with the project they are related to. Also, the fewer interfaces we are asked to become screamingly fast sat, the better.

@@SantiYounger I just got the invite to Tana. Just working through now. I'm also in the Todoist/Notes dilemma. Todoist still wins hands down in regard to what I like to call the 'ease of digestion', e.g. android app, NLP etc. I would love to see the workflow you put together. I'm thinking simply use Todoist as a pure INBOX and create a routine/API etc that ingests into a similar eco-system in Tana that it's up to the users to triage. e.g. Akiflow does this excellently when you plan your day, e.g. it shows you the tasks for the day including what is residing in your inbox. Re: Obsidian, totally agree. Local data, long text editing wins hands down. When it comes to research, highlighting and bringing in notes I suggest you take a look at the "Readwise' plugin. It's been a complete gamechanger for me. Thanks again for your great work.

@@charlesbonfante9188 thanks Charles, honestly my new task system in Tana is great, I really enjoy it and I will start teaching it soon. I agree mobile apps for quick capture is the current biggest set back in Tana. I do use a separate app (workflowy) for quick capturing task which I later manually move into Tana

@@SantiYounger Nice. Also a fan of Workflowey, Tana has a very similar flow. Aliflow nailed it with a direct integration to Todoist, real-time sync. This is an amazing feature. I would love Tana to do the same. Integration is vital for Tana to be a resounding success (as well as a good mobile app!)

Even if it was free for non-commercial use it would be a big no without a local data storage option. Having every node as a record in the database gives it some advantages over logseq which tries to have markdown pages and database records to identify each block (list bullets & pages). Obsidian is page based and has a kludge for blocks. I want all the best things from each PKM/Outliner but no one has yet found an architecture to handle it all without compromise. I think it could be a great option for teams but for a PKM system, I doubt it will pull away the Obsidian fans. One thing that puts me off is the number of KZbin shills with clickbait titles trying to get views. Not you Santi.
@SantiYounger
@SantiYounger 2 жыл бұрын
I get you, Tana is not for everyone, personally it suits my needs and I love it! Being a paid app, as well( as cloud based) I don't think its targeting Obsidian and Logseq users as much. But I do think it will replace Notion and Roam for sure.

@SantiYounger
@SantiYounger 2 жыл бұрын
yes it will be paid, they also have plans for a Freemium version. That's okay, paid services are not for everyone. That's why I still highly recommend Logseq as the best free alternative. Personally I now believe in the value of paying for apps, nothing in life is truly free. So I'm okay with paying money for a convinient powerful tool.
@mageprometheus

@@SantiYounger I pay for apps, audio plugins, Reaper, and Resolve. I really like Logseq and play around with it but I can't deal with creating pages for #tags or properties. It's so broken according to my gut feeling and it's so important not to have that inner grind. Still, I did enjoy learning to program in Clojure and Datalog.

Now I undestand you are approaching it more from the side of open-source and freedom to manipulate things as a programmer. very interesting

@@SantiYounger Wow, I remember listening to that podcast. A C++ system. The advantage of Obsidian (and Logseq) using an electron-based system is the front end is HTML/JS/CSS which makes plugin development easier. The disadvantage is it's clumsy and slow. What I want is the core app written in Rust utilising the Webkit of the platform to have a Vue.js frontend, SurealDB (RDBMS & document & graph hybrid database), easy community plugins, etc. Well done Yoda, I'm too old, too old to start the training! That stopped me from thinking any further about the design.

@@Riteshkrpanda I get you. I don't know exactly how Tana will do a free version. But my guess would be that the free version would be a bit limited. I think Tana will be aimed at paying users, and their free version might be more of a trial for people to test Tana. That's just my guess, it might be better than that. The good thing is that for now (while it's invite only/free) it's a good time to test it. And you can always export your notes out of it into other free apps like Logseq hope that helps!

Hey dude, I see you have jumped onto the Tana Train, so following my feedback on an older Obsidian vid, what has changed? Honestly, not much. Literally in the first 60secs your mouse flew around the screen and your words followed at the same rapid pace hitting on a random selection of features. There's no pause time to digest the information in my brain, and it's working hard to listen and read at the same time. Peer to peer, you're golden, explaining to other coders on caffeine who already know the jargon and feature names, expected behaviours etc. But this pace is not for noobs. On the subject of Tana... No idea, not interested for myself bc I want to get good at Obsidian, a rival product doesn't interest me, especially when it looks the same...
