Since there have been a couple of comments commenting on what is and isn't a route, I figured I'd explain my reasoning. I actually originally began making this video with the idea of only including actual full-on routes, but the problem with that is that the further into the Generations you go, the more ambiguous it all becomes, with Scarlet and Violet as prime example of course. So instead, I went for the definition of 'in nature', meaning landmarks don't count, but areas like the Safari Zone do. After all, it is an natural area that you MUST traverse in order to complete the game. So yeah, feel free to disagree with me, but that's the idea behind it.
@ZingoBananaa2 ай бұрын
i still like the video, but the title doesn't fit and i actually wanted to hear about actual routes. Scarlet and violet just having a bunch of SwSh wild areas slapped together strays from the typical pokemon format.
@matthewwomack97402 ай бұрын
I think it's actually less about what is and isn't a route, and more that you said "landmarks don't count" and started the video off with the safari zone, lol. Banger thoughts, and I found you via this video and am looking forward to watching your backlog of content.

Unova route 18 is easily the definition of how to do a water route _right_ Water trails, mountain cliffs, strength hm puzzles, above the mountain is a pokemon healer and a free egg from a ranger, and just above it is the p2 lab
@crystalcove992 ай бұрын
Some pretty good choices here, but I dont know how I feel about your choice of counting some areas like the Safari Zone as a "route." I know you differentiate between routes and landmarks at the start of the video, but I feel I would call the Safari Zone and National Park "landmarks" far before I would call them routes. And as for Village Bridge, thats always been a town in my book, just with a lot to explore in the surrounding areas. In my opinion, if you wanted to include them, the video shouldn't have been talking about the best "routes" in the first place. All that being said, glad to see some love for Unova Route 23 and Kalos Route 8.

@Xylarxcode2 ай бұрын
I'm inclined to agree. Routes should be fairly self explanatory. If it's not a route and not a town, then it's a separate location. Things like the Safari Zone, Distortion World, Spear Pillar etc aren't routes. The Safari Zone pick didn't really sit right with me either. Rough way to start the video, if you ask me. Its title clearly mentions it will be about routes and the first thing he does is make a rule for why there will be exceptions. Just title it something else, then...

As a gen 6 fanboy clicking on this I immediately knew west of kalos sandy route by the cliff side obvious winner unless we count caves kalos has a couple of contenders In route we both agreed it's kalos best and gf perfecting the high elevation multi heights design of a route That's where you can catch bagon because obviously he tries to jump from the cliff to fly only to bash his head down below on the beach Like the cave had axew and getting out of the cave the 2 professor assistants update your dex and immediately you can catch bagon Gen 6 still my favourite gen because only in this gen before gym 2 you could build so many different types of teams The touch screen super training gives you access to stones so you can fully evolve gallade before gym 2 or aegislash The choices are almost limitless really almost not even fanmade romhacks give you so much freedom at the beginning of the game in how many combinations of teams you can have before gym 2 while also having probably the fastest first gym ever you can almost immediately get that badge Really a start your adventure and immediately go get in the main course no need for appetizers

If you ask me, what makes a route a route is whether you can go through it to some other (significant) destination, or whether you can only stop there, hang out for a bit, and leave the way you came. Village bridge is a route, the various safari zones aren’t.

I just gotta give a shoutout to my homie Route 209, my favorite route in the whole series. Nostalgic music, a variety of different areas all throughout, a mini-dungeon at the end, Spiritomb, it's part of the road for egg hatching, and HUGE coziness all the way through. EDIT: Also, it has Chansey in it! And you can get Vulpix here via dual slot!

Galar's best "route" is definitely route 8. As soon as you enter the environment contrasts most of the previous grassy routes with you being able to see the exit past the maze you must first explore through. The entire place is just a straight up better version of route 6 + stow on side. The compact ruins with less annoying ladders as well as a variety of new unique trainers like the office workers and the dancer and the wild encounters fit the area well. Seeing the falinks shuffle in between the ruins is one of the coolest things after walking out of Hammerlocke and breezing by that so called "route 7" with its short passage. There's a camping tent for a small break before you enter the second half of route 8 which is this short ice route that welcomes you into Circhester that also has unique trainers and cool pokemon like snom sneasel and galar darumaka. Majority of the time in pokemon snowy cities are generally at end of many mountain or snow heavy routes, while route 8 was able to deceive you with its desertish ruins before shocking you with the presence of snow. After beating the double battle at the end of the first part of the route and walking into the second part of the route feels like going through a portal, and the best part is that the short snowy section is very skippable if you just wanted to scroll to the city quickly. This route beautifully invites the player to Galar's snowy area and city with grace, unlike the intensive mountain climbing to get to the last 2 gyms in Paldea or having to use a mamoswine through route 17 in kalos. The northern mini snowy Route 8 also preserves the beauty of the snowy Circhester by only briefly presenting what Galar's ice type region has to offer, instead of forcing you with endlessly snowy encounters and battles that would exhaust you completely once you reach a pokecenter and making you lose interest in exploring the city.

Sure, early Gen routes lack distinctiveness, but at least they make more sense as a cohesive location. Why is Mt Chimney only depositing ash over a single route to the north? Why does the sandstorm in route 4 stop at the borders of Castelia and Nimbasa cities? Why does Anistar City have 2m deep snow drifts to the west and a temperate forest to the east? Why do some areas think it's Autumn while others don't? I get that each region is condensing a real-world location into a smaller space, but it creates some really weird climate patterns.

I'd say Route 44 in Johto is a favorite of mine. Playing HGSS, you only can access it after taking out the Team Rocket takeover- and thus it feels like you're finally exploring new territory. Not only that, the route is teeming with Trainers that have all sorts of Pokemon- not to mention the wild Pokemon found in the water or the secluded area in the middle, which includes Lickitung, Tangela, and Remoraid- weird little fellas that can really add some spice to a team, especially with Lickilicky and Tangrowth added in Gen 4.

disagree about the eterna forest. it only got its signature shade/vibe/aesthetic in platinum and had it taken away (like most other platinum things) in bd/sp. personally, it always felt like the most typical "early forest" route gamefreak made and that makes eterna forest not really unique. haunted chateau is placed at the very end of the forest right before the gate which is also such a bad game design because imagine if the forest was larger and the chateau was placed in the middle of it and you had to go through the forest again to actually visit it, but instead its just a nice surprise for people who want to backtrack.

Unova Route 22 feels really cool at first but then it gets so unrealistic with its strength puzzle. It's got to be the most unique route design in the franchise tho. I think Unova Route 13 is better simply because it actually feels the most like an actual route that could appear in real life and not just game design.
