Hear me out: Fiendsmith Zoodiac. Small enough engine, Doesn't die to the same handtraps that kill Tear, Can spam Dweller using Ratpier, you got Fusion Sub combo, Chakanine can climb you into Fiendsmith combo, and can play that many handtraps that it works.

Don't underestimate D-Link in unlimited, the format is definitely under explored but it's already won unlim tourneys over unlimited ishtear. The unbanned guardragons, and ruler and pieces like eclipse wyvern alongside newer cards like the bystials make a really strong deck with a ton of non-engine space.

since tear is a turn-0 deck in unlimited format and considered the best deck, any potential 2nd best deck would need to have a similar capability of turn-0 plays. im not sure which decks do it but if there will be a superior deck released in the future, it will be able to play on the opponents turn

Technically Rescue Ace is recent and has some turn 0 plays, But it really just pales in comparison to full power Tear, and also (probably) necessitates playing too many bricks like the traps to really open hand traps as consistently as you would want to. It also has anti synergy with Shifter. Like you could mitigate some of these problems with VERY particular deck building but at the end of the day it's a really cope idea. You need MORE than just T0 play, you need hyper consistency and sufficiently small deck space, and ALSO need to be able to play on a different axis than Tearlaments is trying to play on and I don't a single deck simultaneously meets these requirements. The only other solution is to just wait for a deck to directly power creep it in a way that excludes Tearlaments from just being co-opted into some chimera T-0 abomination pile.

Listening to some of these people's takes on older decks really shows how badly yugi boomers underestimate power creep in this game. You could give Zoodiac every card off the banlist right now with Shock Master and 3x pot of greed and that deck is still getting absolutely smoked by the same Ishizu Tearlament list that everyone played in Master Duel a year ago with no extra cards.

centurion was the answer i said here because it can play the handtrap game really well because the engine is very small, you can run bystials helping you make light dark chaos angel if your matchup needs it, with no banlist you can make baronne, and you even have a way to make seals for koaki meiru drago if the matchup requires it, basically i said centurion due to the flexibility of the deck, and calamity if it resolves is almost a guaranteed win

I HARD agree on PePe being the most fraudulent T0 deck of all time. Like, I played during that format and you could steal wins against PePe with absolute dog shit decks, like it was T0, but that wasn't because it was outstandingly impressive in terms of what it could actually do. It was just better enough than other peripheral strategies and decks that had been previously neutered that it naturally out competed. Both in terms of the strength of it's gameplan and consistency in executing that gameplan it wouldn't have taken long for it to naturally become obsolete even at full power. Genuinely one of the least resilient and opressive strategies that had representation on it's level.

5:36 OCG ran a number of Unlimited tournaments, and the format's last problem before it died off was Victory Dragon. Thanks to OCG concession rules, it made Dragon Link the #2 deck, then people just started figuring out ways to splash it everywhere. EDIT: 6:15 the last OCG no banlist tournament I know about was won by Kashtira splashing Victory Dragon, so... it happened.

Nekroz really is one of the most overrated decks in yugioh’s history. Yes, it was the best deck at its time, but it was incredibly easy to build against. General stun cards handled the deck with ease. The issue was that stun decks couldn’t compete with other decks in the format.

My vote is for Dragon Link with Victory Dragon and the OCG surrender rules (opponent must accept your game surrender, if they don't you have to surrender entire match to leave). People often forget, but during Tear Ishizu format, it took the vast majority of the top cut on a non-banlist tournament. If by ANYTHING allowed you mean ANYTHING, Tear still wins by teching in one of the illegal rank 7-8 match winners and getting some help from Kashtira or Horus, but I think that's going a bit too far.

The thing about Magical Scientist is that it's an FTK with no other main deck requirements. And it's searchable off Last Will as well. Consistency wouldn't be the problem, I think going first there's enough good draw power and handtrap hate that it'd be essentially unbeatable. The question is what can it do going 2nd.

Imo the top three decks in an unlimited format are: Tearlaments. Kashtira. Dragon Link. Tear is obvious. Kashtira is designed as a fundamental counter to Tear and in an unlimited format it would be crazy strong, consistent, and even handtrap resistant. Arise-Heart alone is a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Add in Diablosis and it’s crazy oppressive, Kashtira is anti-everything. The only decks that could challenge full power Kash are Tear and D-Link. And D-Link just has so many tools at its disposal against everything else that it sweeps everything except Tear and Kash. With these three it would literally be “who goes first wins”. Kash and D-Link cannot get through Tear (though Kash has a better chance at doing it than D-Link does). Tear and D-Link are fucked if Arise-Heart hits the field and Shangri-Ira has locked their backrow. And D-Link can do so much that even Tear and Kash might not be able to get through their end board.

Azathoth is garbage in an unlim format. ESPECIALLY against IshTear. Your opponent is going full combo before Azathoth’s MATERIALS can hit the board, and then when you pop their field they combo again. And even outside of the IshTear match, this format would 110% have significantly stronger and more reliable combos than an Elder/Outer/Old Entity line.

Zoodics are probably one of the best decks ever that people don't fully understand how insane they are. Obviously, it's compact, but the endboards is produces are nothing to scoff at. The rank 4 pool is arguably the most powerful collection of cards in the game, and Zoodiacs can make pretty much all of them more efficiently than any other deck using things like Ratpier's non OPT E-Tele. Shock Master, Dweller, Bagooska, Ptolmaes into Azathot, are all available, and it can reach any of these multiple times with a very small engine. I've seen Shock Master, Azathot, Dweller with a mere 15 zoodiac cards and the rest non-engine.

I feel like if it cant be Tearlaments it has to be just Linkextender deck with a Snake eye/synchro engine. Halq linkross auroradon guard dragons knightmare goblin etc. Plays easily through handtraps and can play 18+ handtraps themself. Also infinite link fodder with level eater... you can literally do whatever you want, ulinks ftk handrip calamity. Pick your poison. Snake eye is the best engine to get into any halq combo which is FTK. If you are really spicy you can also put a bunch of glow up bulbs in there for extra obe for one targets, last will.... like come on, gouki, spyral, pendulum could never be as consistent and still play 20 non engine.

could you just play some kind of tight rank 4 strat to spam out utopic zexal? any 3 generic 3 4s on the field would be able to end on a 3 material utopic zexal plus an armored xyz line to close out games faster. could then fill the rest of your deck with hand traps. not gonna say its the best, but i think itd be pretty decent at least

@@Iceyia zexal isnt really a tower, its a vfd. and i think the strength of it would be that you really only need two 4s on field plus a way to search a rank-up spell (so 3 4s if you use utopic sage). rongo is powerful but it requires way too much to actually summon effectively

@@logan5018 Numbers Eveil is a one card rhongo that terrorized master duel and eventually got rhongo banned on that client. Yes I'm aware that utopic zexal is more of a floodgate than anything else, i just bunched them all together because they follow the same goal as each other, bringing out one to two monsters that try to win the game on their own by preventing your opponent's answers to them from working. Either way, if vfd + a towers with a single interaction was enough to be the best deck, virtual world would be the best deck, and it isnt. Additionally, there already exists a deck that lands a game winning floodgate on the board in kashtira, a deck that can also just zone lock your opponent out of the game, and is also ok with just sitting on fenrir + unicorn and a bunch of handtraps if their turn gets stopped, where utopic zexal turbo can't just sit on a board that got it's normal summon stopped. Even with this, kashtira still isn't considered the best deck in the room.

Imho I think you’re valuing non-engine too heavily in this particular discussion. Non-engine is definitely important but you still need something to DO once you’ve hand trapped your opponent into oblivion. If the goal is to beat IshTear specifically then you need to be able to keep pace with and/or stop your opponent popping off T0 and for that you need a VERY resilient engine that doesn’t die to milling half the deck. I think in a true unlim format the best places to START with beating IshTear are probably some odd-ball variant of Dragon Link, maybe Adamancipator? And potentially a truly disgusting variant of Snake-Eye. There MIGHT be a world where Yubel or Unchained could see some success as well, but Unchained especially would require an INSANE pilot ripping genuinely perfect value out of every last card.

The not heavy combo pend end on 2 material apo+ vortex+ zarc trap + sp or ip and you can add savage if your hand started with a tuner that the mid range version of a tier 3 deck with current MD/OCG bans. In unlimited you will need to match tear turn 0 and also have protection from all the FTK's so your option D-link with a big bystial package, tenpai and SE with all the not engine you can afford

It is probably me coping and hating on Kashtira players, but I feel like full power Kash is almost as good as Tearlament Ishizu against everyone else while also stomping Tear. Having Fenrir, Unicorn, Terraforming, Arise-Heart, Shifter and Diablosis on top of that, all at 3 is just unfun and unfair. The only thing Kash can't really do is playing "turn 0".

If it isn’t Tearlament, then it would be either Kashtira or Spright. POTE was treated like the “mistake” set by Konami. They were all strong for like 4-6 months and then got hit on the banlists, and even then with each hit it only slowed them down until they got their final bans/limits yet they are still relevant today.

I'm looking back on Kashtira format, and I genuinely don't understand how this deck was ever the best deck in its format. Sure, the 9 lock was really good, but that had a double digit number of commonly played outs without Lance, and even with Lance was still outed by Lava Golem. And on top o that, it's brickier than most top tier decks, and was incredibly vulnerable to handtraps assuming you don't draw the cards you were searching anyways. With Snake Eyes, I feel like I need multiple specific board breakers or hand traps to stand a chance, but I've beaten full Kashtira endboard even in decks that should never be beating it like Tear or Zombie just by drawing Talents or DRNM.

@@Endershock1678 yeah true that. A lot of it had to do with it being a hard counter to Tearlament with all the banishing. Arise-heart with forbidden Lance also made it super resilient and tough to deal with. Making a board was difficult to your point, but breaking the board without getting your resources banished face down was a headache lol. I honestly wouldn’t mind the deck getting some extra deck monsters back because like you said, there’s bigger problems today with decks that are flexible and feel like they always have an answer to whatever hand trap or board breaker you use. Snake-eye, Fiendsmith and Yubel monsters just keep coming back when you thought you dealt with them. Tenpai is pretty toxic too but in my opinion it’s only doing as good as it is because it can play through shifter.

The thing is that Dandylion isn't as good in Plants as you would really assume, simply because Plants aren't really Synchro summoning, and it's not like we can't get enough link material, the issue is that we get infinite material and only 15 extra deck cards to make with said material. Uninterrupted, I'm frequently ending my turn with 0 cards in Extra.

Ishizu Adamancipator was my favorite deck when it was meta in MD. They can easily deck out the opponents if you get maxx c'ed, also Ishizu can be banished for Block Dragon

@@jordandouglas5659 masterpiece didn't protect against ftk. I don't think many handtrap affect that much in no banlist tournament. I really think the only great hand trap is shifter and droll, and idk the name hand trap that gave you LP every time your opp SS.

When MBT and others have tried doing no or fewer banlist tournaments you really don't see Masterpiece at 3 much at least pre the charmies because it's a brick if you don't have the cards to summon it so you really want just playing like two of it.

I honestly dont hate centur-ion like if you think about what the most played handtraps would be in the format its like shifter, maxx c, fuwalos, ash, droll, purulia, nib and centur-ion is kinda insane into all of them. Youre 1 card combos setup king calamity giving them litterally 2 draws with maxx 1 with fuwa and 0 with purulia under droll shifter and nib. If they dont have those you can also just add a cosmic blazar to your endboard to insulate the king. The issue with centur-ion isnt that its extenders arent good its that it doesnt have enough but that really isnt an issue where you can just fill out your list with 3 pot 3 graceful 3 painful and call it a day. The issue with many of the other shifter shells is that they cant really kill under shifter the only real exception being kash, and while thats mostly true for centurion as well since you can very easily king calamity them it doesnt really matter. Overall, I think its kind of nice and quite possibly the best handtrap shell in the format.

First action Ss fenrir stops calamity xd. Even if you play 9 pot of greed in your deck you still have 1 play and 2 extenders with your engine and you draw 5 cards. Also if you play pots you arent playing HTs and without ht you lose even when going first to any good card

@ first of all not if you have up cosmic blazar which is again a 1 card combo. 2nd of all no you dont the engine is only 16-17 cards so u can fit in pot, graceful, painful while still playing 3 shifter, 3 ash, 3 maxx c, 3 fuwalos, 3 droll in 40
