I fell out of love with the 16 for a few years because of its low bottling strength but I'm very pleased to say that I'm back in love with it again. It's the low abv that's the only issue and if this was bottled at 46% we would all be saying how amazing it is but If Lagavulin put the abv up to 46% it would double in price in today's market. It's a really, really, well made whisky. It has a lovely maturity and the sherry puts most sherried whisky to shame. Add into the mixture one of the great peat profiles and it's a classic. So, do yourself a favour Rob and give the old 16 another go. These days I find it delicious and very quaffable.

@@thomasbuck303 Thanks Thomas, I really appreciate your kind words. I enjoy commentating and even if I contradict a reviewer I always try to explain why. I hope I give reasonable feedback to the whisky producers as well although they obviously wont like all we have to say. They're in it to make money and we're in it to enjoy life as reasonably as possible. I am very tempted to start my own channel and I've had quite a number of requests. My big drawback is that I have precious little free time and have to share my passion for good beverages with my equally passionate love of books and music. However, kind comments like yours are nudging me that closer to having a go and I think I could make some interesting content. Cheers. WT

I found the 8 to be a very good value proposition. It does taste youthful, and the 16 drinks very easily. I dunno the 12 is selling for $150 for 12 cs seems a bit salty to me. @@WhiskyInThe6 I guess the good news is is that you can buy younger and enjoyable age stated whiskies for reasonable prices. I am glad they came out with the 8. That should not be lost. The 12 is clearly geared for the collector. The 25 for the wealthy collector hehehe
@welshtoro32562 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with everything you say apart from the value of the 8. Port Charlotte 10 (50%) is cheaper, Ardbeg 10 and the list goes on. The Lag 8 selling point was the 48% and it costs more than £50. There's a lot of very good whisky at that price.
@everwind56912 жыл бұрын
@@welshtoro3256 Things must be very different in Spain Welsh. In my area of DC the Lag 8 used to sell for $45 US. That was 1/2 year ago, and now it is the same price as the Ardbeg 10 around $60 US. I will never understand pricing. (I know taxes have a big impact).

When and If the 12 comes to Ontario the new price will be $215 which is a 35% increase over the last few years with the 2017 at $160, prices have jumped in the U.S as well. A late reply but I agree Trevor. Talisker 10 really is quality bang for buck and it's also very available.
