Before watching the video I would say any full contact fighting sport is good enough muay thai, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, kudo, sambo. Any one of them will do good enough for you to defend yourself to be honest. I would add that it is always good to have a standard protocol for self defense too and most life and death situations can be avoided just by acting right. Most fighters I know never needed to use martial arts for self defence, they just de-escalate the situation or avoid some situations before it is too late. Saying I am sorry is an awsome self defence tool Having good posture is an awsome self defence tool Keeping calm and colected is an awsome self defence tool Almost all of them doesn't require martial arts training.

In my experience For self defense on street, one doesn't need to train anything or aquire any particular fighting skill. All one needs, is kick/knee/elbow to the balls, eye gauge and headbutt. That's it. This doesn't go to say that having MMA training of any sort type of kind does not help, it does definitely help in this self-defense Street scenario however it is not necessary.

It is true that many street fights have been finished with a "lowly" headbutt, and also with the other methods you mentioned. But that works mostly as a surprise attack in the beginning (most street fights are short). If the fight becomes longer, and people start exchanging blows, that's when you need proper fighting skills.

Sambo has takedown striking and also headbutt so it’s very very productive

The problem is, is you can’t really find Sambo gyms, at least I can’t. I’ve been training Muay Thai for a year and want to add wrestling or judo next.

A lot of the focus here seems to be on self-defence through offence/attacking. How would this change if you want to train self defence without necessarily injuring or maiming the opponent? For example, if the self-defence laws in your area are such that you could be prosecuted, or if you are a police officer and want to subdue the opponent without excess force? I guess on top of striking footwork and distance management, you would train wrestling/takedown defence, clinch control, and BJJ for if you get taken down?

3:57 Agreed 100%. Avoid streetfighting at all cost. A "Kru" born and raised in thailand mentioned that to me. A "professor" from Rio mentioned that to me. I totally agree with it.

Hello For personal reasons, I can only go to martial arts once a week. My only choice is between striking and wrestling or wrestling and grappling. What is better? My goal is self-defense.

Just do boxing. Though you're probably not gonna get much of anything out of just once a week. If you train any kind of grappling or wrestling only once a week it would take you AGES to get even remotely decent, and trying to train two at once would be more or less impossible. Boxing is probably best if you don't have much time to train, but your best bet would be to find more time.

It is really difficult to progress with just one time per week. Maybe if you do one or two more sessions alone repeating what you've learned in that one class you had. Like @gigolokano1917 says, give boxing a go.

The problem in my opinion here in Serbia is that a lot of trainers have a bad reputation for pushing little children to their limits ... Martial arts should not be only available for the toughest and most talented children... Some of the trainers even have the reputation of being criminals and i would like to send my kids to these kind of gyms
@MMACoach79

Then don't. There are plenty of gyms with great coaches. For kids, you can't go wrong with Judo, and the chances of a kid's Judo coach being a criminal are almost 0.

The reason there are no Krav Maga competitions is that people would be killed or maimed. Genuinely curious - have you ever fought anyone trained in this?
