The 100mm aren't just a novelty as I have been using them every day for the past 4 months and the one handed quick use function is a life saver also the needle head is better for pulling and prying things like staples where you don't have a large gap to get a good grip on, whereas the 125mm the main positive is they're easier to work with bolts nose on. The 100mm can handle pretty much all nuts and bolts up to a certain torque and I rarely have them slip because they are designed so well which would be the same for 125mm.
@knipsi22 Жыл бұрын
I'd say the main difference is the width of the jaw. The 100mm ones really are made to be super light and very precise which is important if you want to carry them instead of a multi tool with pliers. They are obscenely strong for their size and very versatile because of the thin and pointy jaw. The 125mm are the better water pump pliers if you just want to use them for their traditional purpose.
@simonh6371 Жыл бұрын
Obscenely strong lol I agree actually...I'm sure I've heard maxlvledc use that term. Agree on your point, the xs are very versatile and great for their size, I wouldn't pocket carry the 125mm as urban edc but I do that with the xs. A real game changer in the EDC world and possibly bad for business for Leatherman but that's their own fault.

5:26 : The slim jaws of the small ones could come in handy if you need to grip and turn some kind of slim ring-nut in between of something. The 125mm/5inch ones are light enough for me to carry around so I prefer them.

I‘m really sorry for you US guys how expensive those are over there. Here in Germany, they cost about half of that... so we can afford to have them all. My favorite Cobras are the 150mm. Still small enough to live in my pants, but way more capable...

Yeah, agree with most points. I bought a belt pouch set with the 100mm pliers and wrench, don’t use them much: relegated them to my fishing/ hunting tool kit. The 125’s get used everyday, and I find the 125 pliers wrench lives in my pocket with a Fisher “bullet” space pen: those and a Leatherman PST II on my belt covers all the everyday bases for me.

I used to carry a 150 at work with a kydex sheath and absolutely loved it, but it had quite a footprint on my belt. I ended up leaving them with some other guy at that workplace when I moved on. I then got a cobra xs and between the uncomfortable handle and low torque too limiting. Honestly I left it somewhere by accident and didn't bother to go back and take it. My 125 just arrived and I'm really looking forward to carrying it. Probably not in gonna get another kydex sheath for it though those are too big for me.

Nice video! I bought the 125 version, and it fits fully in my jean coin pocket without protruding, which is my personal standard for edc. I immediately experimented with some tight bolts and they are very effective. When paired with a good pocket knife (my Victorinox Camper), the combination provides an impressive range of capabilities.

125 for me too! Once I realized that the 100 wasn't fir me, it made for a great gift to a buddy. I also prefer the button adjustment too on the 125's. It seems better for trying to reach around the back of an object on its "blind side".

I was using the 4" model and felt like I had to babysit the adjustment all the time when placing the pliers on a nut or bolt head because they would slip out of place because they won't lock. Really happy with 5" for everyday carry. I probably use them everyday at work which saves me time going and getting my tool bag from the work van. An EDC kit is a must have for me now when I walk out the door to go to work. Saved me hundreds of trips back out to the van to grab my tool bag for a simple repair.

I think the versatility of the 100s is they cover some needle nose stuff better than the 125s. Obviously not reaching for into a tight area, but like “heavy duty” tweezer work per say. Fine detail. For example I had a really tiny screw and non magnetic screw driver I was trying to set and just couldn’t get it with my finger tips. The 100s were perfect for that. If you’re really looking to push the limits of strength and leverage of a pocket plier the 125s are better. If you’re main reason is you’re turning 1/2”+ stuff multiple times a week, then 125s all day. But if you want the flexibility to be able to do that (less efficiently than the 125s), and also fine detail work… I think the 100s are more versatile. I think like an IT guy in shop or plant. You may need to turn some bigger stuff to get to the electronics, but also want a small fine detail gripper once you get into the electronics. Also just the average Joe looking to be more prepared but doesn’t have a specific weekly task need for pliers the 100s carry better in the pocket. Or if you’re a hiker/backpacker/hunting/fishing covering miles and every ounce and square inch counts, the 100s. Also bikers. Like everything, it’s relative and I’m glad we have all the options! God bless Knipex! Lol

The XS fits perfectly into the bit kit slot of a Leatherman pouch. I carry them with my G10 Earth Charge. Great compliment. I originally bought it as a novelty/fidgeting item. But found out it's quite useful. I get that the 5-inch model will be superior in most ways, but don't discount it.Specially when paired with a Leatherman or SAK.

I’m happy with the 87-100. I don’t use them for edc but small enough for bringing along if needed and they’re large enough for most applications I can think of in the house. Far too small for work on vehicles and such though.

Novelty? to all intents and purposes they open up to the same width, you can lock them on and can stand on the handle, they are more than strong enough. Watch some videos of the xs in use.

Bro I have an 8 inch OEKA (not CEKA) made in West Germany waterpump pliers, a beast of a thing. But the jaws only open to 30mm... my Cobra XS open to 25mm. The Cobra XS are amazingly capable for something so small and light. Anyone who says they are a ''novelty'' is going on appearances. I don't know what you were trying to use them for, it's an EDC tool. If you were trying to work as a plumber or doing some major engineering then no they are not right. But seriously what the hell do you come across in daily situations which they can't handle? Edit just checked your channel, okay so you're a heavy equipment field mechanic. But EDC isn't normally for specific trades. For 99% of people the Cobra XS are fine.
@garypotter556911 ай бұрын
Like other commenters have said, you forget that the 100mm model VS the 125mm model just fits in places that you wouldn't even try fitting the 125mm model. Plus -- a couple of super light,

This is a crazy video. What in the world could you be working on every day that the smaller ones "won't open far enough"? The conclusion here seems based on a false premise that "everything" you want to grip with them is greater than 1" in diameter. That's just false for normal everyday use. Another post said the author here is a heavy equipment mechanic. But a person that works that job should have a very well stocked real tool kit. Not an itty bitty set of pliers in his pocket. I don't get this at all. The Cobra XS are a fantastically useful product.
