Yes, I would love that tool for all my Visconti's HS and Opera Master. Also, the rubber grip that you are selling would be a great tool to remove the nib ✒️ unit wouldn't it?

Yes please. I would definitely buy the tool since a Homo Sapiens is in my near near future. As always the Q & A and the slices are a rockin'!

My Homo Sapiens Dark Age is arriving today! I still want that tool. Was just re-watching the video, all the Homo Sapiens videos actually. Can't wait to ink this baby when it arrives. Keep up the great work Team Goulet!

Hand up for purchasing this tool. I have several viscounts here so a thorough cleaning on all of them would be easier with it.

Thank you for this very instructive video. I appreciate your attention to detail in the aligning of the nib. I WILL BUY the TOOL you received from Visconti. Pen repair is not my thing and having this tool would make the cleaning of the tool much safer. I enjoy rotating my fountain pens, so it''s practical to clean them after I use one, knowing I won't be using it for an indefinite period of time. I hope you will consider coming to the Atlanta Southeast Pen Show in 2020.

yes, i would be delighted to have a nib removal tool for my Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age. I'd like to be able to perform basic maintenance myself, especially since I'd prefer not to be parted with one of my daily carries (e.g. if I had to send it away for maintenance/fixing/whatever), and I'd rather not be using my fingers on a 23k palladium nib...too many opportunities for bad things to happen to such a great pen. I'd be happy with either a Visconti branded tool, or a third party tool that was compatible with the Visconti nib unit tooling.

+Bryce Ryan Yeah, quite I few commenters seem to be clamoring for it. Best to not take any chances with a valuable pen like that. - Colin

Sadly 6 months on there still isn't any option to buy the nib removal tool so I suspect it's an internal tool and given as gifts to some retailers/distributors to help service the pens. That said I have the Visconti London Fog, the Homo Sapiens Bronze and the Florentine Hills (green one shown in this video) and I have removed the nib from the Florentine Hills quite a few times as ink does get caught in the translucent grip section when filling the pen and look ugly. As Brian showed, grip the nib gently and don't twist the nib and feed, twist the barrel of the pen whilst holding a gentle but firm grip on the nib. It is actually very easy to remove the nib by unscrewing it and not damaging the pen. I would prefer to have the nib removal tool but sadly it seems that isn't an option we have at our disposal.

Just a note - if you mess up removing the nib unit, a replacement costs around £450!! I only know this as I want to change to a broad nib from the medium one. But the Homo Sapiens Dark Age nibs are REALLY expensive!! PS: Would love to have the tool!!

I know this is an old video, but just in case someone reads this - here's a puzzle... How do you do this to a Visconti Wall Street LE? It has no notches in the nib unit. It also won't budge with light pressure, and i don't want to try and force it.

Can you not also use a Goulet grip to put some padding between your fingers and the feed? Just a thought.

Since HS'(regular version) body material are made of hygroscopic material, would ink be absorbed into the body when inked? E.g. filling with black ink, later changed to green, would the colour distorts? or it just requires careful flushing of the pen? Also when inking the pen, the grip would inevitably be submerged in ink, would wiping with a paper towel clean the grip or there could be permanent stain on the grip section? Thank you.
@Gouletpens8 жыл бұрын
The Homo Sapiens is hygroscopic to a degree where you'll feel the texture on your fingers, but not enough to let liquids/ink seep into it/through it. It's similar to ebonite in that way. There shouldn't be any staining or leftover ink residue because of this, but a thorough flushing when switching ink colors probably wouldn't hurt. - Colin

Which version is less prone to scratches and wear (more durable): Bronze Age, Steel Age, or Dark Age?
@Gouletpens8 жыл бұрын
Well the bodies of the pens are all identical, so it would only be the trim that sets it apart. Steel Age is your best bet to resist scratches. - Colin
@julioc49788 жыл бұрын
Is the body of the pen completely scratch resistant?

Coming from Visconti, it's reasonable to assume that this tool is going to cost as least 50 bucks. But then again, if you can afford a Visconti, you probably don't care about spending 50 bucks on a nib removal tool...

Please do some homework to find out a) what Visconti thinks about Customers doing this on their own, b) what sort of a disclaimer would accompany such a sale, and c) when could we get one/how much would they cost? Thanks again, Brian, for all the help you provide. Just got my 2 Minutes to Midnight ink I want to try in my Homo Sapiens Bronze!
