A tip that quickens up the book drying method is that after a week I will take them out and sit them in the sun for an hour and they completey dry perfectly!

Ooo, maybe for the silica gel, have two plastic containers stacked with holes drilled on the interior one. Then, when it's time to remove the flowers, you can life while you gently shake and sift the gel out! Maybe that would prevent breakage as you dig then out? Gosh, they all turned out so pretty. 🥺 Each method was so unique, perfect for different styles/themes!

Great video. You should do one comparing regular table salt, regular fine dry sand and then silica gel you will be shocked at which ones look the best and have the most vibrant colors if you've not tried these.

Thanks for doing all that work to show us examples of each method! Unfortunately I’m really allergic to silica and I think those flowers definitely looked better than the hanging method. Years ago I made a flower press out of pegboard. I cut a 4’x8’ sheet of pegboard into 1ft. squares. Then, put several layers of paper and flowers in between two pieces peg board.. used bolts with wing nuts in the pre-drilled holes to clamp it down tightly. All those pre-drilled holes provided a little ventilation so, it worked really well. I also added a few more sheets of paper next to the pegboard to prevent the pattern of holes transferring onto to the 🌺. I don’t know if anyone would want to try this but, I thought I’d mention it just in case. Your video was really helpful! Thanks again!

flowers w/ thicker hardier petals, centers , or bulbs try putting them in the microwave for a few seconds. When carbon materials are warmed the bands of structure (cell walls) expand, begin to break down and become more pliable and yes, more free fragile so just handle with care. Like if you put in hot water but with drying flowers is counter productive. I do this and it helps so much.

I'm really glad to see a direct comparison of these methods for different flowers! The various methods definitely give different looks and it's really dependent on each flower and what effect you want to go for. It seems to me that the microfleur and silica gel are more reasonable for people that use flowers in projects a lot rather than someone who occasionally has some flowers they want to keep. I've had really good luck with drying upside-down and book-pressing, but the shape of some of the silica gel ones is pretty great!

Silica gel is by far my favourite mainly because I’ve had the best colour preserving results with it. I also like the upside down drying sometimes for certain flowers. For flat art pieces I prefer the microfleur even though I still need to practice the right intervals and heat settings for different flowers. As always, great video! I fell like I’ve been waiting for this exact one for so long. I’ll definitely be using this guide a lot 💕

I personally practice the book drying method and a little bit of the silica method. When I travel I tend to carry a small sketch book with me. Sometimes my husband and I will find a nice flower or petals of roses that I'll stick into the book and bind it with ponytail holders (it's a smaller sketch book). If I have any with me, and especially for flowers I feel will stick to the pages due to my forgetting it's in there in the first place or busy with traveling things, I will place the flowers within a folded piece of tracing paper. I find it helps reduce any texture from the book paper and it helps reduce bleeding and sticking since it's a less porous paper.

I wonder if placing the book with the flowers in front of a dehumidifier, fan, maybe in front of an open window etc would prevent rotting. Don't know if it'd make much of a difference considering the pages are pressed together quite tighly, but it's worth a try

I always hang mine, I find the color pay off the best plus it's free, but I have also done the silica ones, but I like having the stems long so it's not my preference, I hate flat dried so I don't do the press or microwave, btw you can also microwave silica flowers, there are instructions online or on the packages I believe, or there were when I bought mine, but that was over 20 years ago

Here me out on this one, I found a bee the other day and wanna preserve it and put it into a frame with some flowers I have. However, I don't want them to be dried and lose their colour or shape. So I just had a interesting thought, what would happen if I fed them a solution of either straight up formalin or formaldehyde. or fed the flowers mixture water with formalin/formaldehyde liquid. To get the chemical to get into the petals of the flower in an attempt to "preserve" the flower head? Thank you for reading, and I look forward to everyones responses and advice!

I think I’ve dried a carnation in silica gel! I might suggest leaving it in the silica gel for less time. If it’s shriveling to nothing then that might mean that it’s being dried out too much. Silica gel can totally dry out a flower to nothing basically if you leave it in for too long. So maybe less time! ❤️
