Shop the front page ads for the national stores- then the rest at Winco. Remember, they only take debit - no credit. 🤑

This is a very well done analysis!! A true "home economist" approach. Buying groceries can be a very expensive venture if not given some intentional preparation ahead of time. I have used this same approach for years - it is a tried and true approach. I do plan my meals but I plan based on what I have or what sales I have been able to shop. We have those four stores within close proximity. I shop all four and shop the sales. I also shop for mark downs and have been able to find great mark downs in all the areas you outlined. Thank you for this detailed study!!!!

Thanks for your agreement that this strategy really can work! A tried and true approach is definitely worth sharing. Like you, I plan my meals around the sales and that really is a huge source of savings!

Thanks for a great video. It is obvious how much time and effort you put into this research. Up until last year I did all my shopping at Publix. (I’m in northwest Georgia.) I’ve had to switch and do the majority of my shopping at Walmart. I still like to take advantage of the “bogo” deals at Publix. The nearest Aldi to me is about 30 minutes away. After watching your video I think I need to make a trip to Aldi to see if I can save enough money there to make the trip worthwhile. Thanks again for your hard work!
@joyfullythriving6 ай бұрын
I think that is smart to do majority of your shopping at Walmart but still take advantage of the Bogo deals at Publix. And it would be interesting next time you are close to Aldi to compare prices and do some stocking up! Even if it is only once every couple months, it might be worth the savings - especially on pantry items!

thank you for all of the detail. I shop pretty much the same way. I am fortunate that I have an Aldi, a Shaws (the New England branch of Albertsons which I believe has been or is about to be taken over by Kroger) and a Hannaford (local New England chain) all clumped together within the equivalent of a city block. So, doing price comparisons with their on-line flyers I can shop at all three or any combination easily. For some people, the travel may not offset the price difference. I shop Shaws for only their loss leader sales and use of their store loyalty rewards which are the best. I shop Aldi (tha absolute lowest on most things) for non sale things I need and Hannaford for the sales and items that Aldi does not carry (plus they have great loyalty card bonuses and rewards like free items which I will gladly accept). I am one of those people who doesn't shop Walmart (which is also in that "clump" of stores near me) but with all of the other options I am fortunate to have not have felt any need to go there.

Way to go! I love how you know exactly which store to go for the best deals, and utilize them all! Well done! And yes! My stores are within a mile of each other, so it makes it easy for me too. Not as easy as you, but still definitely worth the time for me!
@sharynmuzik23686 ай бұрын
Hi Kristin, I look at the gas used: I rarely shop @ Aldi since it is 35min away and shop sales only @ Ralphs 10min, Costco 10min and spend most of my grocery money @ Trader Joes 3min away 😊
@joyfullythriving6 ай бұрын
Gas money is definitely a factor! Time is money. For me, these stores are all within 5 minutes of each other - and all 5 to 10 minutes from my home, so I can easily shop there as I am running errands. Good for you at knowing where to find the best deals - for you!
@sharonkatherine81912 ай бұрын
Thank you for your video. I don’t know if it’s because of my area Northern Virginia but the Aldi only has half of the items on my list. The other half I have to go to Walmart. We usually eat fresh and nothing packaged or can.
@joyfullythriving2 ай бұрын
You are welcome! Aldi's definitely vary around the country but since they are also a smaller store with a focus on their generic canned goods, if you don't buy packaged or canned items at Aldi, you would definitely do better going to Walmart where they have more fresh.

We no longer get weekly sale papers from our local grocery stores. We are supposed to go online and look at the sales. Have you found a way to streamline looking at the huge number of sale items-even though some sales are only saving a few Pennies on some of the items? My husband and I are empty nesters. I really don’t like sifting through baby items, diapers, pet products, and liquor when those aren’t items I would ever buy. I like the physical sale papers where they sometimes cluster a bunch of similar products in a box to highlight all the baby or pet items together.
@joyfullythriving6 ай бұрын
It is frustrating. I miss getting the sale flyers too! As for streamlining it? I simply look at the ads online, where they are still grouped together so I can quickly scan through the items. I find it easier to look at the digital ads as compared to a list of all the sale items because you are right. That can definitely be overwhelming!

Aldi ads online are easy to shift through if you have an Aldi.

i wonder how much this will change once labor day is over since aldis suppose to slash prices for the summer season
@joyfullythriving6 ай бұрын
I looked at some of the prices Aldi is slashing and not all of those were included on my price list so they shouldn't affect the results that much. Plus, I gathered most of the prices in early April before the roll backs. I do think it is an interesting concept for Aldi to attempt! 👏

My grocery stores are 25-30 mins away. Aldi and walmart are cheapest. I shop between 4 or 5 stores. If im in a hurry and i just need to get everything then i only do walmart. I did sams today and have ordered sale items at Bakers and Hyvee for tomorrow.

Good job at knowing your stores - and picking and choosing the deals! 🙌 And yes, Walmart, is definitely a help when you are in a hurry and need everything all at once - and at decent prices.

I have to do delivery and was looking at Kroger sales, thought I would compare the price of some other items with Martin's- and Kroger was more expensive on several items. I have never tried Walmart and not sure if they deliver with the yearly subscription-I got both of the above stores at a discount
@joyfullythrivingАй бұрын
Walmart does deliver if you have a yearly subscription and you will definitely find their every day prices a lot lower than Kroger or Martin's. BUT this week, Kroger has great sales with $0.99 sugar and flour if you are a Boost member - which you are, if you get delivery!

Quick question: When you grocery shop, do you prefer to use the cash envelope system (such as Dave Ramsey) or do you prefer to use your debit card? I am thinking about switching over to a cash only system for grocery shopping, just to see if that helps me think more about what I am buying and how much I am spending. Thank you!
@joyfullythriving6 ай бұрын
Good question! I actually use a credit card (which I pay off every month) and keep a running tally on the Keep app on my phone. Since I have been shopping on a budget this way for years, it works for me. That said, I do highly recommend the cash system, especially if you are trying to stick more closely to your budget. It will definitely hold you more accountable!
