Thanks, Keven for your clear and concise explanation about the basics of employee engagement. I would stress the "emotional" aspect which is the secret behind an engaged employee. It was possible for us to leverage on the "empathy" factor and create an emotional chord with our employees. It is not always about material offerings or salary remunerations. On the other hand once employees feel they are important and add value to their company the level of engagement is bound to grow with the passage of time. A question for you is about using Net Promoter Score to assess employee engagement. Have you used this approach?

people are not engaged and will never be engaged due to the fact that corporations increase profits by slashing salaries. That is the bottom line. You should see the crap I see at work where money is wasted cause employees don't care. That is the bottom line. why should workers increase profits when there is nothing in it for them.

I'm in management and hear this garbage all the time. The company I work for has 3 divisions, I manage the ONLY division that is working. We have zero turn over, zero complaints, zero call outs, zero injuries, great driving score (we're a trucking company and manufacturer). My guys do their job without issue. I barely see them. I send texts to them. Customers constantly call to say how wonderful my drivers were. We're not even the best paying job out there. I dont do pizza parties or expect them to attent events. Why do my guys care? Super simple. I value their life outside of work. I actively try to streamline their work to make it easier so they can focus on what matters. I never say the words "i'll look into it". I actually do what I say I'm gonna do and don't look at them like expendable money makers. They're humans with wives and kids and hobbies. Put employees first and they'll put you first. Parties and social events can make things worse. Why? Because they don't wanna spend more time with co-workers. They wanna go home. The more companies respect employees as humans and stop trying to manipulate them the better things will be.

Dont know the definition of employee engagement but sure know the definition of EMPLOYEE DISENGAGEMENT. Employee disengagement comes around when an organisation forces an experimental medical procedure onto its employeees. Also all your surveys, meetings and training is going to do nothing after this to reverse employee disengagement after this violation.

+Juliana Vergara You need to find out what is wrong in the workplace first. Conduct an employee opinion survey and find out what their biggest pet peeves are. Perhaps the culture is flawed (i.e. unethical, bullies in management, etc.). You'll never get to the bottom of it if you don't do a survey because most employees are afraid ... afraid of getting fired ... afraid of retaliation ... afraid that nothing will change and that it might get worse.
