Not to mention a unified desktop experience? I mean Java's Swing is not something to write home about, but its there. When will we get open source Forms? There is a huge crowd for desktop applications, people who would love to be able to one click compile them for at least X11 and OSX without having to jump through light years of hoops.

@@PhilipAlexanderHassialis Windows Forms is already open source since .NET Core 3.1, so you can leverage .NET Core libraries with Windows Forms and WPF as well, both are open source and you can find them in GitHub. If you meant that Microsoft should create a cross platform desktop framework, you may be interested in project MAUI which targets both mobile and desktop, based on the foundation of Xamarin.Forms, more info in GitHub as well: github.com/dotnet/maui

If you want to create a Class library which you can use in .Net Framework and .Net Core then use .Net Standard. It was confusing what features it supports for what version of .Net Core and .Net Framework.

Weird YES. Framework ONLY does Windows. Core does more OS's including Windows. NET is the _new_ name for Core... since we weren't befuddled already.
