In the last few years I only use premier. I found them originally at the dollar store and fell in love with the quality and colors. It's the only yarn that holds up with my active fur family. We do a LOT of laundry.

I like the lion brand more because it has more of a dramatic gradient and it’s thicker but the blanket you made with the premier is amazing 🤩

Thank you for this wonderful review for Premier's NEW Anti-Pilling Gradient Yarn Collection. Your Rainbow Blanket is spectacular!!! This collection was so popular that most colors sold out quickly. Premier Yarns hope to have the inventory replenished at the beginning of August and additional inventory coming soon after that to keep in stock. Keep bringing more love and joy into our world through all your wonderful works of art created with yarn! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent for crochet with all of us!!!

Pull tabs on cakes is not a big deal to me - I do wish yarn companies would put pull tabs on SKEINS of yarn tho. I really appreciate you doing this comparison, even though I will never ever buy Lion Brand's "Gradient" (to me both are ombre's and not gradients, but whatever) for personal reasons. But even past those "reasons", I would probably lean toward the Premier anyway. I like the more vivid colors and it seems *most* of the Mandala gradients are almost white in the center, where the Premier ones are hued in the colorway it is. I also MUCH prefer anti-piling yarns whenever possible.
@Desaundrea5 ай бұрын
I agree wholeheartedly with you. I can find most center pulls on cakes and rarely have issues on skeins, but it would be easier if all skein had a pull start tab. 💯🧶☺️

I use the wraps per inch method when determining the weight of yarn. Often at our senior centers people will donate yarn without labels. That makes it hard to determine what the weight and what hook would be recommended. This method is pretty good in figuring that out.

Hi Glenda, always love your videos, thanks for sharing. Thank you for showing the difference between the 2 brands of yarn..very helpful. They are both pretty. I don't understand why the different brands do not all use a standard measure of what is a 3, 4, or 5 weight. Kinda annoying 😁

I have a tool from Nancy's Notions, maybe a ailable as used. WPI, wraps per inch, gor knotters used to be used to determine the "weight", fingering to bulky. Yarns with a halo are more difficult, and wraps can vary greatly depending on stretchynes, how tightly the wraps are packed. Hard to determine weight with the variety of ways yarn is now constructed, I think this used to be more straight forward.... 😮

Thank you for this great yarn comparison as I was confused & your response to my remark was informative. Please when comparing thickness of yarn, you need to compare yardage and not just cake size. Holding up a strand under your hand is helpful. Your strands per inch test was excellent! Thank you again for such an excellent review.

I love lion brand I can’t emphasize that enough. So that was my go too. Unfortunately had an allergic reaction I believe from the nylon. Let me say the color is on point I crocheted a whole cake of purple. They made plenty for the customer which premier did not. This is an actual 4 weight maybe a bit of a bulky 4. I really wish I could work with it.

11 wraps puts this yarn as a true 4 weight on the Wraps Per Inch scale. The cut off being 12 wraps. The Lion Brand: Mandala Gradient looks to be fuller than the Premier yarn. That makes it an Aran weight, you know that sweet spot between a 4 weight and a 5? *bigger than a true 4 but smaller than a true 5 bulky*. If using a ruler for the inch, make sure you wrap LOOSELY, almost no tension, but ensure each strand is touching. Having a WPI tool can really help you determine what the size or weight of a yarn TRULY is if the label is saying something you disagree with. I use my WPI tool for foreign yarns like ICe, Hobbi, and Hobium because when it comes to their 4 weight yarns and below, they tend to be WAY off the mark. It is crazy that they are so far off, especially Ice Yarns because they manufacture most of the yarns from Premier and Lion Brand ( that’s why they have identical yarns 😉). This is a great video as I was torn between buying Lion Brand’s Gradient yarn or Premier’s. I love the anti pilling from Premier so my mind is now made up. Thank you Glenda! 💯🧶🧶🥰🙏🏽
