No CMAA is only administrative... for "all in one" you want CMA, RMA, or CCMA

Wow.. thank your for this video. I am trying to decide which route to take. I am enrolling in a school this august and they have 240 externship hrs. I am confused still about which Exam to take. They will teach us EKG and Phlebotomy. Can we take CMA and CCMA … or what not be needed. Just CMa? Because aren’t they kind of both the same thing CMA just covers both areas clinical and administrative? Thanks 😊
@MedicalAssistingwithMsK Жыл бұрын
Hey, your school will let you know which exam they offer. Once you take one, you don't need the other. They both cover clinical and administrative but the CMA covers a lot more.

Hi Ms. Kendra, and happy holidays! I just recently found your channel and subscribed! I'm in California where it isn't required to be certified to work as a medical assistant, but all job postings I see online require certification and many want CMA and RMA certification and applicants that meet the Board of California's "Qualified Medical Assistant" requirements. NHA isn't included on the list. The only certification that I might qualify for taking a 120-hour class and a 160-hour externship with the AMCA only unless I can get the 3 years full time experience and go through AMT? Before I signed up and made most of my payments for my class that's starting soon, I looked up jobs and seen some available accepting CCMA now there's almost nothing and only RMA/CMA and preferring CMAs. Other than that, they're looking for medical assistants to work in the administrative side. I was thinking if trying to do a CMAA online program with 40 hours of externship through SF State and then trying to get certified again with the NHA would be a good idea, and if the continuing education would credit to both CCMA and CMAA?
@MedicalAssistingwithMsK Жыл бұрын
There are 10 CEUs required for each cert so if you get both, you'll need 20 total. But you can definitely get CEUs for both certs on the NHA website. And as far as jobs asking for only CMA or RMA, they may not necessarily be familiar with the CCMA cert so you can still apply. Most jobs just want you certified. You can also try a recruiting agency so they only send your resume to jobs for which you qualify.
@JR-yn2kl Жыл бұрын
@@MedicalAssistingwithMsK Thank you. I already looked at recruiting agencies in my area online and only found one that might work. But, I definitely don’t want to do that much CEU that’s why I tried doing a different medical program years ago. This 3 accelerated CCMA program is harder than I thought it would be.

@@rebeccavan4335 hey! You absolutely do have a chance. I think it’s best to wait until after externship to do your certification exam because what you do on externship will help you with the exam.

You don't need experience just to enroll in the course. But for the job, most likely you will need experience and certification.

I am a CCMA. The CCMA course I took covered CMAA material. The CCMA exam also covered CMAA material. I have experience working on the administrative side of medical assisting. I was thinking about going ahead and getting CMAA certified as well. Is the CMAA NHA study material the same as the administrative portion of the CCMA study guide or should I go ahead and purchase the CMAA study material and practice exam?
@MedicalAssistingwithMsK Жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes it's the same but it goes into more detail. So everything you see on the administrative side of the CCMA, you will also see on the CMAA. However, not everything on the CMAA will be on the CCMA. Hope that makes sense :)
