What is the difference between the Poynting XPOL-1 vs XPOL-2 Antennas

We often find that customer buy based on price, without thinking about the detail of the antenna. This is clearly the problem with an e-commerce online store.
In this video we present both antennas side by side, and give a quick basic overview on the differences between the antennas and what to be on the lookout for.
The Poynting XPOL-2 is a great antenna for directional higher gain applications, and the Poynting XPOL-1 is a very nice antenna for versatile portable and mobile applications.

Great! I'm in rural Scotland and have been living with a xpol a0001 for 4 years. The ee mast near our hill just got upgraded to 5g. Hoping to slash out on xpol2 (great video btw!) just need to know how to work it where to point it!.. But just realised I will also have to upgrade my hub!

@@julianbell9586 4G gives my 190 down and 40 up after BT got involved in EE. Used to get 250 down easy but its still pretty great for a none FTTC area. Just move the new Xpol around till you get Signal Strength: close to 100% ! Took me a couple of weeks to find the best spot for it

Good to see you posting again, Suggestion for video would be mounting the Poynting (permanently) on roof types such as tin roof or tiled roof

The versatility of the xpol 1s mounting options, is what it wins it for me. You can install it 3 different ways so it does afford you some flexibility and ability to tinker with the reception.

Great crisp video! Well I just have both here to test because I am very unsure on what I need. XPOL1 as 4x4 and XPOL2 2x2 in the highest building of the city. Very curious on how they will perform on 4G and 5G modems. My goal is to have highest stability with lowest ping. XPOL2 does 42ms ping in 4G so far... thats why I test the 4x4 omni too.

Bloody awesome explaination, not obvious from images or blurb. Let's see if the extra is worth it here in blighty (mid wales really) and with 2 cell towers just on the edge of our house and with a hill between both!. Fingers crossed.

i'm getting 250mbps with my XPOL1 V2. i also found that it still makes a difference which way it's pointing, in spite of it apparently being omnidirectional. i got the SNR from 25db to 29db just by turning it 15 degrees. and signal power went from -81db to -76db. i just dont need XPOL2 as my speed is already very high
@RFShop

Indeed, at 250Mbps it’s going to be hard to justify another antenna

How does the XPOL-2 compare in performance to a conventional log periodic MIMO setup? When would one be suggested over the other?
@RFShop
@RFShop 3 жыл бұрын
As a general rule the LPDA setup is more suited for the rural areas as it just has that bit of extra gain, in particular in the lower frequency bands where the lower bands offers additional range / reach. This is a very basic cheat sheet (not overly scientific)...suburbs and outskirts can take XPOL-2's. Rural areas get the LPDA. Sometimes it's also a mechanical consideration, as the LPDA's are heavier and more bulky, where the XPOL-2 is a kilo and a single package.

@@RFShop Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me! Just a thought, it would probably make for real good content to make videos comparing different antennas and setups to one another in different environments and scenarios to really show what equipment would work best for each application!

I have a Netgear LB1120 and am looking at the XPOL-2 versus a MIMO LPDA from Waveform versus the new Amplimax? In a rural area in Texas about 4 miles from the tower, No tress within 500 feet from the house, but depending on how high I can mount the antenna, I might have some tree tops as obstacles ...Any suggestions? Thanks,
@RFShop
@RFShop 2 жыл бұрын
Hi J. If it's that remote I would look at the MIMO LPDA as the strongest option. Those antennas are generally a little bit better on gain, in particular on the lower frequencies.

Hi David.Another great video.I'm doing some semi remote camping.I see other campers using these antennas.Would you recommend the XPOL-2 for distance ? Thanks
@RFShop
@RFShop 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes...for reach I would consider the XPOL-2. Trouble is always that the XPOL-2 is directional and will require more setup. An omni antenna will automatically work, but one is likely to be 6dBi lower...sometimes that is indeed a problem.

Hi David, can you tell me what the difference in reception is between the MIMO-3-12 and XPOL-1? Both are applicable to an RV.
@RFShop
@RFShop Жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, sorry for the late response (9 days in)... On face value I can only go by what the datasheets tell us. I am more in favour of the MIMO-3 antenna, because of where you can place it and how it can be mounted (i.e. well clear of any obstructions). The XPOL-1, although an omni, is inevitably placed against a surface or obstruction so would not be pure omni in the way I like an omni to be. Performance wise, though, they are probably very similar

Hi Joleen, the XPOL-2 is a good option. You still know which way to point even if the hills is in the way. An omni would give you less gain and chance to make a connection

Quick question David: the T-Mobile Nokia 5G gateway supports 4x4 MIMO. If I read your video charts properly, the XPOL-1 supports 4x4 but the XPOL-2 does not. Would that suggest (cost aside) that I could, or should, hang two XPOL-2s outside to take advantage of the 4x4 MIMO? If yes, are there guidelines as to how far apart they should be? I love your videos, they have ben very informative. Thanks for your time.

@RFShop 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mick. Yes, most certainly. When we refer to 5G it means that's an additional technology added to the antenna. It is backward compatible, and could do (where applicable), 2G, 3G, 4G and now also 5G.

What distance will the omni one reach. My mast is 3 kilometres away and I have not got line of site
@RFShop

Distance is always a very difficult topic, as it actually depends on too many variables...such as frequency and application as well as what the customer expectation is when talking about distance. 3km should be do-able though
