Slave has been especially hard in the last few years due to almost every other lake in AB having 0 limit on everything. I'm really surprised more people haven't given up on fishing as a whole.

Pretty low limits there now!

2:40 the thing about "trophy fish" and trophy animals, is that they have lived a full healthy life. Trophy hunting and fishing just means you get the older, more mature animals and fish with less time left on their lifeline. People need to educate themself on the topic. Go for the bigger ones!

The walleye are certainly harder to catch than they once were, but they are also much healthier fish. Only in Alberta do fishermen expect Walleye to be easyer to catch than perch or hammer handle pike, because we're used to catching overpopulated, half starved fish. The walleye in LSL no longer fit this description, and now you have to work for them a little... I know its terrible but do try to adjust. A couple factors, the extreme high water springs/ floods put allot of silt in the water right when they were spawning 2019-21 so a bit of a numbers drop is inevitable. Too this low water in 23 probably isnt going to be much better for the spawn. Another factor is that most of the creel counts I've seen F&W do have been in winter, Slave typically has always fished much slower through the ice. As I pointed out to one concerned CO... "check these same spots in the summer and everyone has their limit, the fish arent gone, their just not starving anymore and we suck at catching them through the ice."

Wow I had no idea there were Lakers in lesser slave what a shame they're gone. Wonder if they coyld be reintroduced and how big the fish would get and how fast the fishery would bounce back if netting was banned completely for a good7-10years. I heard there was a big illegal fishery that was destroying the walleye numbers a few years back sucks how so few can ruin it for so many.

The lake trout left when the water got dirty after all the logging .the lake is hooked to the athabasca and they just moved on . That's what the old timers say here

Slot sizes for walleye long overdue here
@bushleague3472 Жыл бұрын
I'd agree, just because so many people would catch a bunch of fish out of deep water trying to get the biggest fish they could to keep. The problem is that with a slot so narrow, the end result is still a ton of fish getting caught and released out of deep water as people try to get slot fish. I think a max size limit on pike was long overdue too, but a complete shutdown makes no sense at all.

And your solution is what?

@@LetsGoOutdoors There is a creek by my house where the fish spawn... I have never once seen the whitefish come in that shallow in the spring. Burbot, yes, they do come in shallow in both the spring, and in the fall when the white's spawn, but If anything the burbot are under more pressure now than ever.

My family was heavily involved in the commercial fishing industry in Alberta. A lot of livelihoods were destroyed for others recreation.
