What Is the Glory of God? What Does It Mean to Glorify God?

What is the glory of God and what does it mean to glorify God? Here's a clear, biblical definition of the glory of God and the Bible verses to support it.
The glory of God is when the invisible qualities of God are made visibly or knowable for people to see or understand. You can see what the glory of God is in Exodus 33:18-19, through creation, through God's law, through humans, through Jesus, and through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
To glorify God means to reveal him. To reveal God we must live like Christ, proclaim Christ, and be gospel-saturated people. Jesus and the gospel show us the most about God. Therefore to glorify God we must show the world Jesus and the gospel most of all.

I have always wondered what it meant to "Glorify God". Now that I've watched this I think it's to be more Christ like "Love God, Love each other" and learn the Bible (not just read) and share the word with others. Not forcing it down their throats, but gently planting seeds. Only God can make the seeds grow.

thank you Mark for elucidating how to glorify God in our relationships and defining what the glory of God is. Excellent definition ---the invisible qualities of God made visible and knowable to us. One thing missing in your presentation is the Holy Spirit living/abiding in us. By our selves we cannot glorify God. Jesus secret of glorifying His father when he started his ministry on earth was because Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 4. 18) We can truly glorify God in our human form when we begin to surrender our will/self to God and be filled with His Spirit. John 15 in his parable of the vine, Jesus says that we cannot do anything without God. We are like empty bottles, but when filled with God 's glory/character/purposes, and with the Holy Spirit's empowering and transforming ability, we can start to reflect God's image in our lives. Jesus' breathing the Holy Spirit on his disciples before He left for heaven, was the secret of their success in their relationships and ministry.

This is one of the best videos I've watched on this topic because of the emphasis on sharing the Gospel. Many others just say that reflecting God's image is giving the most glory and listeners tend to concentrate on living the fruits of the Spirit.. but it's not enough to be kind and patient, etc. Christ's mission on earth was to share the Gospel.. your video reminded me about that a Gospel Christian gives the highest glory to God.

After watching, this added to my perspective on glorifying God, knowing that, from before, glorifying God only means you faithfully attend to Mass on Church, go to Worship Communities, shouting His name, doing good to others, etc, but it is more than that. I think glorifying God is one of the fundamental steps on how to have constant communion with Him, which then reminds me of the first part of the Lord's Prayer which pertains to adoring and giving glorification to God. The way Bible verses are interconnected with each other and how it was delivered and explained thru this video by Mark is really a God's message to everyone. So, I know the purpose of life is simply to glorify God. But, what does that really mean? Here, I learned that that means to make his invisible attributes manifest to others through my own life. God is holy so I must be holy. And, by me being holy I thereby make manifest his invisible attributes to others and therefore glorify God. So, what are some of those attributes? How about the fruits of the spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, patience, gentleness, and self-control. Jesus embodied these and more in his ministry on Earth. We ought to also walk in the same manner.

I can share, I've come face to face with it, It is absolute awe and wonder, light, fear and Bliss, love and enthusiasm, Joy unspeakable, these words don't even touch on it, It's utterly unexplainable, The only word which can do it justice is Christ and his teachings by example, along with the example of God's love for us on the cross, A love so deep that just scratching the surface would cause your human hearts to literally explode with happiness. Thank you for this clear teaching, it’s hard to find good teaching on His Glory. I’ve been searching out the meaning of God’s Glory and slowly growing in the discovery of it. We don’t have a grid in our society for valuing and seeking Gods Glory so it is not usually on our radar. For most, God’s glory is something they have to wait to see when they pass from this earth. Or maybe they sense it in a sunset or the laughter of a child. Be encouraged everyone, it is possible to see more of God’s Glory even while still alive on earth. We can ask to see God’s glory, just as Moses did and receive a greater portion of understanding. Jesus invites us to seek, knock and ask with diligence and the way will be opened. Heavenly Father Thank you for your Glory that is all around us! Enlarge our capacity to see more of your Glory. It’s around us in Creation, in Christ, in your Word but our carnal eyes sometimes have scales and veils on them. Remove the blinders we’ve acquired to see more of your magnificence, splendor and love, more of the essence of You. In Jesus name, Amen.
