I think the grille idea could have promise, like Lexus and their predator grille, but if you ask me, it comes up too high. It shouldn't need bulges in the hood to connect with the front grille.

It could well be, but I also wonder if they deliberately went against the grain with the design to create some fuss, there’s a lot of discussion on it since it’s release. It’s the first BMW I’m genuinely lusting after! anyone that can’t see past the snout and appreciate the full package is probably just a poser anyway and doesn’t deserve one😆

What I have found is that the color of the car makes a HUGE difference. In something like yellow, there is enough of contrasting dark colors in the front where the dark grill ties in pretty well. But on colors like grey or silver, the grill is just too prominent. I know that sounds totally backwards but that's my take so far.

Why didn’t you mention the rear wheels are 20’s and the fronts are the 19’s? Obviously BMW have done this to make the steering less twitchy on poor road surfaces.

If a car needs to rely on a number plate and a dark colour to mask the design, it's not a good design from the start. I'm a student at the car design school that the head of BMW design and several of the designers from the M3/M4 project graduated from and professors here are embarrassed by the car.

I like this cars design from all angles, that grill is not an issue at all. BMW designers designed this car for its designated market. There will be more sales in these cars than there are haters. From those that hate it only few of them could afford to buy it. People that talk much about how much they hate the car are actually promoting it unknowingly, this will work in BMW's favour am telling you. These are the best machines one of the greatest.

I guess we'll have to stay tuned for the answer! What's up with car designs, lately? All I see here is headlights from an S Class (ok, maybe merc copied bmw?), and a rear light cluster that reminds me of the Mazda 6 ( I know they're not identical but that was the first thing I though of when I first saw this). Then, there's the grill...I supposed it's better with a plate across it. The G20 was also a disappointment and I fear the G42 will follow that.

Honestly I really like the new M3 and M4. Sure the front grill does not look the greatest but I don't think it's that hideous as people seem to make it. The new design language of the car overall is absolutely stunning from exterior to the interior. I really think BMW will make the grill much better looking once the facelift models come in a couple of years.

The grill looks excellent on the M cars. The bonnet design and horizontal slats on the grill look so much better than the lesser cars. Put this against the old M4 and it looks much more modern. Love it.

Used to think it's a good looking car with a hideous grill, after I've been looking at it for hours during last few days I'd say that the grill is the least problematic thing on that car, it looks like someone farted in it so it inflated and then it was left on a warm day out so it melted someohow, didn't explain it the most eloquently but you know what I mean, it looks like BMW used to make only SUVs and they wanted to make a saloon/coupe of the X3 🤷🏻‍♂️ but to be fair last sexy car BMW made was the E46/E39/E38 generation of cars

The reason people love certain classics E type, 250GTO are the lovely pure simple lines swooping around. This whole design is "over" designed too many angles and lines, the wheels only add to the fussiness, all I hear is journalists trying to find excuses for this mess (since they want to stay in favour with the brand) Too firm in comfort and no manual..... stay in Europe please Following other manufactures producing these enormous grills is boring and uninspiring, Audi and Lexus don't look great with their oversized grills, I guess the Chinese effect is taking over, apparently they love a huge grille, go figure? Beautiful car design seems to be a thing of the past, sadly the 50s, 60s and 70s, though Porsche make it into the 'lists' as they are a lot more sympathetic with their design cues from older models. This will annoy some - My partner offered to buy me one ...my answer thank you, but no thank you.

We're in the era where BMW doesn't listen to their customers. They will use market share from their most popular mid-sized 3/4 series cars. Eventually they will adjust but too late for some. My x330i lease is up next summer. I won't be getting another one with the ugly nose.

Not always. Hardly anyone made a fuss when Audi switched to big grilles in mid 2000s. Sometimes manufacturers just have to admit that they made a poor design. And BMW have been making quite a few poor designs in the last two decades.

The new grille makes me want to gnaw down a tree and build a dam..... Ruins the whole car for me.. Good news is that the new grilles are making the resale value on my M550 go up... Even my Client advisor at the dealership told me he hears 10x more complaints about the grilles than compliments...One theory is that BMW made the Grille like that to boost sales of the 5 & 8's...
