Love is the way! And by the way, being a dad is not boring! I waited until I was 38 and we adopted a Thai girl that was four years old. I don’t remember what life was like before her. It’s been the most rewarding and meaningful thing I’ve ever done. She’s 21 now and working on a masters degree in counseling. Nothing has sparked love and joy in me than being part of this girls life…..

I'm mixed Asian American, but 33 and have also been living in Bangkok since right before the pandemic. I wasn't happy living back home and moved abroad, same as you. I feel like I can kind of relate to you because I kind of feel the same since I've been living here. I used to also party a lot, especially in the first few years here, but now I hardly ever go out and if I do, I'll go for a social drink with a friend or friends once in a while. I mostly spend my time at the gym, working at a cafe or workplace, swimming, sunbathing, cooking, playing guitar, etc. Even then, sometimes I have this feeling like you though. I think it's normal to think this. I also think maybe it is the novelty of living in BKK or a new place wearing off, as well as a coming of age happening at the same time and thinking deeper now about what we really want out of life, and if what we are doing now are building those foundations towards what we want in the future. I think another question that frequently comes up from the back of my mind is if living in BKK is long-term or not. I guess regardless of the place though, there's a shelf life for many things in life and I think there will be a lull period after novelty has worn off in just about any place. Once this happens, I think the question becomes what's keeping me here or why am I here? Living in a place is sort of like being in a relationship, there’s an emotional aspect of excitement to it, particularly in the beginning, but then that can wear off. Once that is over, there has to be some logical reasons to remain in that relationship or place. I think if you have a job that genuinely enjoy doing here, as well as enjoyable activities that fill your free time and quality social interactions with people around you in a your social group (friends and partner) on some regular basis, then maybe it could be reason or purpose to stay. However, perhaps one of these aspects could be lacking if one is still looking for a sense of purpose here. Just my guess though, I’m just rambling lol.

I’m glad you took the time to type this. I’m here for the first time and finishing my month in BKK for the last week. I am not loving it but also, I’m solo so nobody to explore with. Pattaya was nice for a bit, met some cool people there. Actually met a girl on tinder and spent a week in Phuket. She got the plane tickets and I paid everything else. The girl was a walking GREEN flag. No tattoos, 24, no kids, doesn’t smoke, hardly drinks, and is a legit 9+/10. I had to leave her because at least me, I was starting to fall for her. Best week of the last 5 years. Great girl. I left her (she had a gf in Phuket and was okay to stay. I didn’t just leave.) because if I don’t live here there is no way to have a proper relationship. All this to say Thailand has something special about it. Life is different, slower paced if you want, and just a good and safe life place. No drug addicts, and good people if you can find them are here. Life is just about walking until your path ends. And trying to leave this place (life) knowing you don’t have regrets and made a positive impact.

IMO, as an older fellow, the peak age for men is between 35 and 45. If you've taken care of yourself, you still appear pretty young, but you've accumulated enough life experience to have developed a good sense of who you are. When you speak, people listen to you. It's the perfect combination of vitality and maturity.

While teaching English in China for 8 years, I found my life purpose was giving back to others and helping others. Instead of making life about me, it was about others. After a year back in the USA due to family emergencies, I am ready to return to Asia and get back into the classroom. In July, I fly into Bangkok. From there, I will scour the country for a few weeks to find a great position. In about 7 years, I will retire. For retirement, my plan is to purchase a small hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia or Thailand. This will give me a retirement project, housing, food, and other life needs. Since I will be able to live on my retirement funds, whatever the hotel does in profits will be funneled to help the employees of the property, as well as help within the community with youth education and medical care. Since I have no life partner or children, when I die, I will have a trust set up to allow those connections I made in life continue with the profits of running the hotel. While in America, people live the life of the "ME" mentality, chasing political agendas, financial gains, and the supposed American dream, I have discovered that my happiness lies in my faith in God and the mission of helping others. I tried it the American way for 45 years. I was never truly happy. It was only when I exited the American experience that I found my purpose in life. That is not to say that I hate America. I do love my country that once existed 10 years ago. I hope to see a return to the values that made American the beacon on the hill for the world. Sadly, that light has faded into the darkness and looks to become extinguished if the miracle of God and the patriotism of Americans is not renewed.

I think ones porous in life will depend on the person. I am 76 and l lucky to see a lot of life and the world. I served in Vietnam but unlike thousands of other American, it was one of the happiest periods of my life, mainly since I was stationed in Saigon when I was 21 at that period changed the direction of my life of instead of going back to America to live the rest of my life, I instead bought a back back and toured Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for a year I did go back to America but only to get a college degree so that I could get better paying jobs working overseas of which happened. Graduating from college I worked mainly oil companies in the Middle East and Far East and Africa. I saw 2 wars, Vietnam and the Gulf War, one as a participant the other as an observer. My work allowed me to travel all over the world getting to one job after another all paid for my my employers, so about the only places I did not go were both poles and and south America. I have always loved the presents of women but not to marry them, but I was with hundreds all with names I don't remember. I think if anyone maybe Buddha may have understood the meaning of his life but on a whole I doubt if 98% of us have considered it. I often wondered where I fit in, but then I have fitted in but then moved on. Now I am pretty much in a place where I fit in, retired in Thailand, met a Thai girl the fitted into my life 25 years ago, surprisingly 24 years younger than me and highly educated. My propose in life to be responsible to those that depend on me. To enjoy the rest of my life doing what I want to do since I was lucky enough to have worked for it.

Thanks for checking in Forrest. You really did bring up some important points that we all deal with as we move through life. Being at peace with yourself and feeling loved is not to be taken lightly. It requires constant monitoring and stepping back to ask the hard questions. I know I’ve shared with you before about my 12 years in Tokyo. Just out of college and living life_ my friends thought I was a little crazy and since they had never experienced life and learning a 2nd language, we had many gaps develop. Don’t be too hard on yourself to get all the answers. Continue to Live in the moment and let the small group from church surround you with care and love.🎉

You're progressing to the part of life where meaning matters more than the 'fun in the moment'. It's a great time. It's defining your life and your journey. Settling down, connecting with others on a deeper level is, IMO, when life gets really good. You're heading in a great direction. Bible studies (no matter the religion) will connect you with deeper meaning of you looking introspectively and with others on the same path. I'm excited for you.

Travelled extensively in Asia during my time in China, been to Thailand 8 times already, and Bangkok is my favorite city in the world, visit there once a year and each time stay one month. Now that I am back in my native country I have realized how lucky I have been all along for having these wonderful experiences and realized that the meaning of life is to enjoy life as much as possible through traveling the world and helping other people .. Choosing not to have kids and a family was the best decision ever made in my life. Marriage life with kids is not for everyone, self-awareness is key, I was very lucky to find my purpose in life through traveling at a young age because the purpose of life is to find things that make you feel alive inside and keep doing them .. Cheers ..!

The purpose of life is to live. We think of life as a one dimensional experience when in fact it is layered. Your purpose or purposes in life will find you. Rarely do people have the courage or the opportunity to leave their circumstance. Your deciding to move to Thailand based on your faith and your feelings is all you need. I am just relocating to Thailand at 72. My greatest wish is that I had discovered it in my 30s and 40s. My greatest fear is that I would not have the same perspective as I do as an older man. Experience makes us wiser, helps us to make sober decisions with information. There is no age to the acquisition of wisdom. Stop watching the pot … waiting for the water to boil. You made a decision that seems to pay you personal dividends every day. And, worst case scenario … you get to search for self … in Paradise … not Cleveland, Oxnard or Peoria … 😂! I learned from a Jewish Rabi that the purpose of life is service. To serve others to the best of your abilities. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace" 1 Peter 4:10

Doing what you did is considered extreme because few people have the confidence and courage within themselves to be happy where ever they go. You rely on less than the average person to bring you comfort and happiness. It is an inside thing and love is the answer and true path to a happy fulfilling life. Being in the land of smiles gives you many, many opportunities to love. Bay area, your lucky if people even notice each other.

None of us ever reach 'success'. It's not a destination. Once the bills are paid you can now start to search for the meaning of life. The world is a cruel & sad place unfortunately. Do good things for others & surround yourself with kind people. You are a good man Forest, try to relax and stay calm. Coffees on me if you ever get a bored morning. I live at Samrong. Take care always. Regards Tony PS I'm a lot older than you & I still don't have the answers.

I went to thailand when I was 33. Lived off my savings, which only lasted 2 years, then I had to return to the rat race. Sounds like you have worked out how to generate money to stay....wish I could have. Wishing you many more happy years there.

man.. ill be honest. I feel like we are so different in allot of ways. but when I watch you videos I realizes that your situation resonates with me allot. I think you're a smart man who I can learn allot from. I feel like you might consider me a (degenerate) as you call it, but you give me insight on the way I want to live my life and I wanted to show some appreciation for that. I can tell you have your head on straight and I know things will work out well for you.

One of the purposes in life that is crucial, is to give...in what or how ever way you can. Sharing is one way and expecting nothing in return...there a multiple ex-pat channels in Thailand...so its more common than a person might think. Good vibes and continue on.

Life is better when we take time to reflect. I read somewhere some nice questions. What am I doing? Is it worthwhile? Can I do it better? Short and to the point. As a Christian, you could explore some of the tools from Theravada Buddhism. Maybe you could spend a week or two at a place like Wat Pah Nanachat? What does it mean to see life as it really is using some of their ideas?

I understand what you’re saying, I’ve been in Bangkok a few months now, sold everything in canada, moved here to be with my girlfriend and started a YT channel, now things aren’t going great, stuck in a huge place in the degenerate area of Nana / Asok, surrounded by tourists and drunks… wondering what’s my purpose now… thing’s aren’t going as planned, but I’d be just as miserable in Canada .. maybe a tad bit less lonely… brought my cat too, which now is an anchor… so many questions… this video hits home tonight ❤

simple solution would be to move away from the degenrate tourists, right?

Hey Forrest, would love for you to do a video on Thailand's new Prime Minister and what that means for foreigners thinking about visiting and living in Thailand? How you feel about the new PM's politics, etc.

Hi Forrest. I've just come across your channel and am wondering how you stay in Thailand at your young age. Do you have a work visa or do you use another method? Love your content.

Hi Forrest, thanks for sharing your experience and feelings! I totally feel the exact same, what is my purpose, whats next... I wanted to move to Thailand for the past 4-5 years but I recently visited a few months ago but I think what ive wanted has changed. Youre not the only one feeling this, I am totally feeling it also! Im asian Canadian so I feel like people think going and moving abroad is super abnormal and extreme that grew up in North America because not a lot of people do that. I feel similar to you, I dont find it extreme either but normal to test the waters lol. Thanks for sharing
