They keycard make sense when the manufacturer is taking the life of the product seriously. Only allowing their cleaning solution by use of a timed keycard, that lines up with the lifespan of the solution container, is smart. It prevents the user from destroying the device from negligence. If you can spend 1600 on the machine, the cost of solution should not be an issue

I have had the JFJ Easy Pro for about 4-5 years. It works great for CDs and DVDs. But it physically ruined the first and only Blu Ray I put in it. It burned through the thinner layers on the Blu Ray, making the disc un repairable. So this looks nice for Blu Rays. But I can not stomach the time cards. I refuse to work with companies who basically lock their products like that. Jon Deer got sued and just lost their case against farmers for locking them into only using JD parts and repair shops. They now have to allow repair at independent shops. Apple also lost their suit. And have to allow repair to their products. This company is basically running a monopoly on these disc repair machines. If I had the extra money, I would sue them to force them to remove the keys, just to open it up to free market. Because these proprietary keys are total and utter bullshit….

@@redfairmont I am currently repairing one of these for a library and they said, that it was quite useful. They also explained to me how it worked. Apparently the machine does not actually grind down the CD so there are no more scratches, instead it removes the little bit of material, that bulges up, when the CD is scratched. CD players always read a little ahead of what they are actually playing to remove errors (I assume through software) so the actual scratch is not the problem, but what is a problem is that little bulge of material that apparently lets the player not read the CD properly. But these clog up easily, so if you don`t plan on using it regularly that might be an issue.

Excellent machine from a brilliant Japanese company. I went from JFJ to these and now I have three of them. The hinges go after a while but that's a cheap easy fix. I bought a stack of extra pads and I put them in my washing machine and then let them air dry. If you deal in a lot of CDs or DVDs I would urge you to invest in one of these!

I am currently trying to repair one of these for a library and although they are really useful, they clog up very easily. The particular machine I am working on had not been used for a little and not been properly "shut down" (e.g. closing the nozzles etc.) which led to a clog in the lid. Admittedly the machine is easy to take apart, but it was still a rather annoying process to get to the hoses. However that led to another problem. The machine kept pumping the solution which then ended up inside the machine, which led to the rubber wheel of the solution pump slipping which in turn led to the machine not pumping any solution.

He is talking about cost of ownership. He is factoring in ALL cost of equipment plus 2minutes usage per disc at a rate of 800 minutes per $100. That's why it gets cheaper the more he uses it, because the cost of the machine, pads and adaptor get spread out more and more. That's also why there is a hard line to how little it can cost because there is the 800 min per $100 that will never go down. Only the equipment cost can be spread out.
