This was amazing. I see the ending as more symbolic/poetic in the sense that the asset „healed“ her wound, which is something he did before in the story. He took her wound, the cause of her muteness and the thing that separated her her whole life and arguably caused her incredible pain (not physical but rather mental by being an outcast and viewed as lower than others) and turned it into the thing that would enable her to breathe under water, thus enabling her to stay with him. She never belonged anywhere, but she belonged with him and that scene was imo a visualization of that.

That is spot on. Guillermo del Toro loves his symbolism and outsiders.

I am LOVING these movie analysis videos. I don't have the attention span for movies so a good explanation makes me feel like I didn't miss much, while not having to listen to a bunch of half garbage versions of what happened while I was sleeping 😁😁 more of the please!!!

This is actually the best video I've watched all year. I have a burning love for this movie for a large amount of reasons. But this video puts my mind at peace for all the things I had questions about. It may just be a video but it truly did make me feel like my life is complete. Thank you for this amazing video ❤️❤️

A perfect complement to understanding the movie. A beautifully made analysis. It made me enjoy the movie more.

Well, knowing Guillermo and his films, I'd have to say that the ending most definitively was literal. The 3rd person narrative is only to confuse those who can't believe in the magic of Del Toro's world and how potent, how real it truly is. Those people are consigned to the "hell" of their own erroneous conclusions, while those who know the reality of magic and Nature understand that the ending was real - it actually happened, just as shown.

Cross-reference this movie with Lovecraft's 'Shadow Over Innsmouth' and 'Dagon'. This movie could be viewed as a horror film disguised as romantic fantasy. She is 'of the blood', hence the gills. Strickland can even be seen as a caricature of Lovecraft - hyper-rational, xenophobic, helpless in the face of the unknown.

I can absolutely see that. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for this. :) One of my favorite films, the fairy tale we hope can come true--and I think sometimes does.

This was sooo interesting to listen to! I've hear about this movie, but never thought it would interest me, as I'm usually not a fan of these weird creature movies, and I'm also such a wimp when it comes to horror related films. After listning to this video though, I honestly really consider watching it! It sound so good :O

It's gonna be awhile before I see this so I don't mind the spoilers. This will probably help me understand the movie. I wouldn't really call this a horror movie though... Great video Mrs. Blood! 😉

You know. . . the last time I saw a chick have sex with a fish there was a lot less symbolism and artistry involved and a lot more Japanese spoken. . .
