What is the Twin Paradox example. Neil deGrasse Tyson explained Albert Einstein Theory of Relativity .The apparent paradox arising from relativity theory that if one of a pair of twins makes a long journey at near the speed of light and then returns, he or she will have aged less than the twin who remains behind. Of all the people alive today I would love to have a sit down with this guy. I might end up giving him a headache. Because you make a fair point, in my mind in order to have time you need to have the other dimensions, and you need movement or change to measure time. If you're at a dead stop in interstellar space, you can theoretically be alive let's say but if you're not moving from point to point then you can't measure time. If you're theoretically moving at the speed of light or close to it, now you can measure time. I think the body will age more slowly due to not being on Earth, not being exposed to microbes and disease, not having gravity pull down on your bones 24/7, but you will definitely lose muscle mass and who knows what will happen to your organs, over time they will probably lose their size/shape. It is an interesting experiment though. I would definitely send a dog or monkey at the SOL if we could bring the ship back would be awesome to see what would actually happen. Don't know about sending humans 😆.

this is about special relativity, especially time dilation. moving objects experienced time slower. and so is cell aging process, etc. from the moving object's perspective (the human and all things down to atomic level), they only experienced 5 years and aged 5 years. for them it feels normal. but relative to stationary object (as the observer), the moving objects age slower (and looks to move really slowww like a sloth)
@bfan82
@bfan82 5 ай бұрын
@@ThreeWhiteSoldiersexperiencing time slower and time actually moving slower aren’t the same thing though. Einstein came up with the concept by watching a clock and noticed he was in a different spot relative to the hand position. It never made sense to me as to why people have stated this stuff as being fact. How does this concept line up with telling time by celestial movements? How does the measurement of time contribute to actual physical aging? For traveling speed to actually matter, we would have to prove that counting revolutions around the sun contributes to whether or not people age.
@ThreeWhiteSoldiers
@ThreeWhiteSoldiers 5 ай бұрын
@@bfan82 what? it has been proven since 1971 in Hafele-Keating experiment by comparing static and moving atomic clock. and in daily basis, it happen on the GPS satellites. The satellites experience around 7 microseconds of 'delay' or slowed time every 24 hours due to their speed. so when things on earth has experienced 24 hours, the satellites only experienced 24h minus 7 microseconds

To call this a paradox is misconception. Actual Twins paradox is that both twins can assume other twin to be in motion, and themselves to be stationary , implying time slowing down for the other twin . Therefore for which twin the time actually slows down, is the question.Thats the twins paradox.

Exactly! Can't believe he said the second twin ages more slowly when he travels at 90% the speed of light. The second twin could say the same about the first twin. The difference is that the frame of reference for the second twin is changed when he makes his return journey. The frame of reference for the first twin is unchanged. BTW, it also has nothing to do with the second twin undergoing acceleration/deceleration; the same would result without these.

Actually this is not a paradox. This is just a relativistic phenomenon called "time dilation". Time dilation says "a moving clock run slower". So the clock of twin brother in spaceship run's slower as observed by the twin brother on earth. So twin brother on earth observer that his twin brother is aging slowly then himself. But relativity works both ways, means that same effect should be observed by twin brother in spaceship. That means twin brother in spaceship should also observe that his brother on earth is aging slow. This is the paradox here why only one brother aged but not the other.Afterall both observer are observing that the other brother is aging slow and the effect should be same for both of them. The answer is when the twin in spaceship is moving from earth he is not in inertial frame( that frame which moves with same velocity ). So relativity will not work here. Due to a non-inertial frame there is absoluteness and only one will age more then the other.

One of the things that you really have to realize is the speed of light is very, very special. It's not just simply a speed of something moving through space. As you go faster and faster and closer to the speed of light, time itself begins to slow down. And space begins to contract. As you go close to the speed of light, the entire universe becomes smaller and smaller until it basically just becomes a single point when you're going at the speed of light. And time, as you go closer to the speed of light, gets slower and slower until basically time is a single point at the speed of light. Light does not experience space or time. It's not just a speed going through something. All of the universe shifts around this constant, the speed of light. Time and space itself stop when you go that speed. - Michelle Thaller.

When he said, "this one," he selected a preferred reference frame, breaking the rules. The twin in the ship sees his brother moving at nearly the speed of light. There is no reason to assume one of their clocks moves slower, and the other doesn't. Acceleration does not break the tie. The Twin Paradox is a logic error taught to most physicists in their first Special Relativity class, and never questioned later. But as you just saw Tyson do, you have to break some fundamental rules in order to conclude that the Twin Paradox exists.

I do believe that Neil is a really smart and influential individual. The world needs more people like Neil. However, I have to ask the bigger question... People grow and age with time. Time is not dependent on any other property in the universe. And thus, time stands alone. So if time stands alone, how is it that someone will age slower simply because they transport from one place to another and back again at a very fast speed? Time doesn't exist. We humans made up time to make sense of everything else. So time is only used as a representation, which does not explain how someone would age faster or slower over the same period of time on earth.

Well one thing people often forget to take into account is that everything moves at a 0 speed compared to itself therefore time passes just as fast from each point of view, and from the one in space it's those on Earth that go very fast and "not age". This paradox is really a bad way in my opinion to explain the relationship between space and time

The difference in the passing time relatively to speed is so true (thank you Einstein) that we do not need the speed of light to notice that. The GPS satélites need a algorithm to correct their clock, otherwise, due to their speed (near 27.000 Km/h) their clock would be slower enough the make an error on calculating speed, and showing time.

Einstein’s equation says as an object approaches the speed of light, the mass of the object increases. This was proven in particle accelerators, where it takes more and more energy to accelerate a particle as you get closer to the speed of light , eventually requiring an infinite amount of energy at the speed of light, which is impossible. A radioactive particle starts to decay slower and slower as it gets closer to the speed of light, showing time slowing as it approaches the speed of light. Many of Einstein’s theories were not able to be proven for years later, after technology proved him right. We are also able to actually see gravitational lensing, where light from distant galaxies is actually bent by gravity, allowing us to see behind galaxies in front of other galaxies or objects. Side note: Hubble was actually an A-hole. At a dinner where Einstein was supposed to be guest of honor, Hubble had the name cards moved to show himself as the honoree. Einstein, being the gentleman, did not complain about the slight. Just one of several ways Hubble, though brilliant, showed himself to be a prick.

This theory also suggests why Murph aged faster than Coop in the movie interstellar even though he didnt move that fast but he was near a black hole. A black hole (if you dont know) has a massive force in gravitational pull. So much that even light cannot escape. This force would make your speed at over 95% the speed of light, even though you are not getting sucked in. This means we have means of time travel, only to the future.

There is two ways to decrease the relative clock, on is going fast as described in this video but another is simply be in a stronger gravitational field, that is the may way a nearby blackhole would slow you clock down.
