Mary - When you suggested to color with the vest on and then said "Oh, that might be interesting." you should do a drawing challenge with the vest on. That would be fun to see the outcome. :)

Claire Wineland said her parents used to give her markers and paper and she'd hold like, 3-4 colors in one hand and doodle and it ended up looking really cool! I would love to see a duel between Mary doing it in her vest and Peter doing it with an "as seen on tv" wiggle pen 😂 see which one turns out better. Or try watercolor painting with the vest 😱

6:15-6:45 Literally why y'all are so inspirational to me as I struggle with depression/anxiety. Because there are lies that come every day, every hour, and some days every minute at me. And sometimes I'm so exhausted from life and anxiety and I don't feel like taking time to identify the lies and deny/reject them, because depending on the day, it sometimes leads to several hours of doing nothing but fighting to believe God's truth (and it's good that I focus on God, but also I could be DOING things that need to happen in those hours. Also, I get in trouble if I don't do my HW/chores/whatever). Anyways, y'all encourage me so much to stick with it and not let a single lie slip past. Because one lie leads to more lies. Thank you to whoever reads my comment. I'm going to go to bed, because that's what I need right now to take care of God's temple. I very much appreciate any prayers, and if there's anything I can pray for you about, I will. You are loved and able and worthy of love.

Hi Mary and Peter :) I once found a random video of yours, I think it was the wedding cake one and watched you ever since. After almost 3 years of watching you and learning about CF I pretty much new about everything you were talking about in this video but I still watched it all and smiled :) They way you guys are with each other, the way you talk and keep so positive reflects so much when I watch these videos and it helps me feel better in myself. I don't have CF but I've been struggling with depression for a long time, my life have been quite hard.. but you know what? You make it better and I want to thank you for that so so much. I love you guys and keep up the awesome job you're doing! xxx

vests are such an improvement I imagine! It must have been in the "old days" it was all hand PT! This enables someone to watch TV, play a video game, listen to music, to whatever...and I imagine it must be far more easy to convince a child with CF to use a vest, than PT!! All the things that make life better!

When I was a child (early to mid 70s), I would get bronchitis and pneumonia yearly, and my mom had to pound my chest/back to help me cough up all the mucus. I'm so glad they've come out with something to help you more effectively clear your lungs (that also doesn't rely on someone else to help you).

The new vest from Afflovest doesn't have a compressor or use hoses, it runs off a rechargeable battery or off the electric socket. I will say the new vest is very heavy, it's a good for helping keep the strength in your arms when putting it on and in your legs when walking around as it does its job.

I have Asthma and there is never a day that I go without having a runny nose or mucus in my system, yes i take antihistamines but they dont always work and dont last all day. There are sometimes that a lot of mucus will build up that it can hurt my lungs and i have to use an inhaler etc. I have looked on the websites that talk about vest and it mentions asthma. I dont know i feel like if i could use this it would help so much

Does the vest completely replace manual chest PT, effect-wise? Does the vest clear your lungs more or better than manual chest PT ever could? Since when you're in the hospital, you both do the vest and receive manual chest PT, right? Is it advisable or recommendable to do the vest multiple times a day, like three or four times, considering you have the time, and would it give better results or is it just a strain on your body and lungs to do it more often than twice a day? So many questions, I'm sorry :D
@thefreylife
@thefreylife 7 жыл бұрын
Great questions! Essentially The Vest replaces manual chest PT in most everyday life. However, while both methods are effective forms of airway clearance, they accomplish it differently (high frequency oscillation vs. manual force)... so there are times when one is favored over the other. There are days when Mary's lungs are needing more care than the recommended twice a day treatment, and on those days we try to supplement with either some manual PT or some extra Vest time. That being said, doing The Vest is an active treatment of clearing the airways... including a lot of coughing, so it can be exhausting to do it more than twice a day. Hope that's helpful! Thanks for asking good questions!

When does Mary tend to start coughing when she's using the vest? I guess it can be very variable, but does it often start straight away, or only after twenty/thirty/forty minutes etc? Does the coughing tend to continue after the vest treatment?

This is my first time ever hearing of Cystic Fibrosis and the vest treatment. But I just have a question about the vest itself, hypothetically speaking if a woman has cystic fibrosis but is also pregnant would that cause negative effects on the child? Are there warnings for the women who are pregnant? Sorry if this is out there but seeing your video (my first time watching btw) I'm always curious about learning new things.

I remember hearing the story of my parents being relieved when my sweat test came back negative as a child, but I grew up with very severe, life threatening asthma. As an adult, it came back again a little, but mostly bothers me in the coldest temperatures. I love watching your vlog to see how much you appreciate life, despite all you have to put up with. You have an amazing husband, adorable dog, and support team! I never had a vest, but I have a nebulizer, and those little saline/medicine plastic pouches that go into the breathing treatments are also second nature to me. I'm in the process of moving and just went through a whole bunch. Anyways, I have always wondered exactly how these vests work. Does it usually bring relief after it's use?

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting! I was born with Congenital Heart Disease and would have to have chest PT after my open heart operations so that I wouldnt get pneumonia. Now days when I get bronchitis or pneumonia I still have my husband pound on my back to help loosen that mucus, because it is definitely hard to loosen just by coughing. I often tell my mom and husband "I wish I could have a Vest to help, it would make things so much more efficient when I get sick". Thank you both for sharing your everyday lives with us viewers and being such an inspiration to so many!

I wish this treatment had been invented a decade ago. My best friend of my youth had cystic fibrosis and chest pt just sort of stopped working properly for her. She passed away peacefully in her sleep 6 doors down from me on a cruise ship when we were both 7 years old. Since then I have fought to spread awareness for cystic fibrosis in my small community and I'm so happy better treatment has come onto the scene. Those hand held devices are a joke. I see you have a hoarse voice. Since dealing with my issue my voice has gone hoarse permanently. It sucks because people always think I'm sick with a cold.😑 I thought I was the only one with an affected voice.

Kinda reminds me of a CPAP machine....which reminds me. I have to do another sleep study and get tested for another CPAP machine soon. Hopefully they've developed more comfortable CPAP masks however because nearly a decade ago i first started CPAP for my apnea but didn't do well for long despite trying several different masks with each one more uncomfortable than the last.

Would this be an automated form of coupage (spelling ??) (Pronounced coo-pa-ge just in case my spelling is way off) when you cup your hand and pound on the area's over the lungs to break up build up so it can be coughed out... is that basically what this vest is doing ?? Thank you. Love your daily vlogs and both of you together are such an inspiration. Love you both. Good luck and we will be watching and praying.

If anyone is wondering, the way it works is the vibrating of the vest, ovbiously makes the body mobile which loosens any thin mucus, which is then of course coughed up by the patient. Sessions most commonly last around 20 - 30 minutes

What is the difference between manual pt and vibrations? I think that's what it's called, I think you asked Peter to do it after he finished pt on you. I'm sorry if I got the name wrong. Anyway, does the vest do rhat also?
