Hereford is a cathedral city, civil parish and the county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately 16 miles east of the border with Wales, 24 miles southwest of Worcester, and 23 miles northwest of Gloucester.

You missed so much this is a lovely little city (no it doesn't rain all the time) I came here for 6 months over two decades ago, the locals are lovely and friendly. I like to think of myself as one of them now. All it needs is a bypass.

Oh yeah visit the town on a wet day during covid - that'll do it.

Yeh I only had time to stop there for a few hours when I was changing trains. Will have to visit again properly in the future.

@@BlockchainTravel Not the best side of the town. It's a real hive of activity on other days. In fact back in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's it was rammed - people from all over mid wales, the city and shire would come here. It is after all the regions capital. Peace!

@@somericesomechicken It's a big subject. You have to take into account licensing. 15-20 years ago licensing shifted the focus allowing pubs to enter later thus impacting upon the numbers of people attending the clubs. Then there was the 24 hour licensing (supermarkets) hailing in cheap home drinking, which was backed up by new technology such as internet, multi channel TV packages and wide screen home entertainment. The pubs and clubs were now both up against it via this massive cultural shift. Numbers began to drop, which impacted upon retail. Of course small provincial centers like Hereford can't compete with the large centers such as Cardiff, Bristol or Birmingham and so the life out of these towns has been sucked out on multiple levels. Hereford has of course tried to be imaginative but that's another story. The town seeks to thrive still and there is a lot emerging as it does when you are in the business of surviving.
