the lakes is about the English romantic movement where a bunch of poets in England wrote alot about love, nature, expression, freeness etc. This relates to the song because Taylor is expressing how she just wants to go the Lake District (specifically Windermere) and just be with her lover and be inspired, the line "a red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground, with no one around to tweet it" is a metaphor showing how she wants to be alone with her lover for a while away from the spotlight and the "hunters with cell phones"

I was partly there. Thanks for the explanation. The words were too complex for me😂😂😂 so was about her getting away and going to a lake. Ahhh the Hunter is the photographer makes way more sense.

You basically picked one of the most complicated songs lyrically from her entire discography to react to 😅 It’s an incredible song actually once you understand it. If you’re interested I can recommend the videos from English Teacher KP. She breaks down the lyrics of this song and it’s super interesting. Love you’re reactions. Keep em coming 😊

Yeah, it’s quite advanced poetry with lots of literary devices and references to literature. It’s an amazing feeling once you get it though. Taylor takes you back to English class in folklore and evermore but in the best and most enjoyable way.

I want to give you a piece of advice, do something with the wall behind you, it is very distracting and driving me bananas. Her songs from folklore and evermore are very deep in meaning.
