One of the best scenes Doug McGrath has ever directed! RIP

I guess we never know why a certain song gets under our skin or becomes a favourite. Different things appeal to different people in the gigantic realm of music. I loved this song from the first time I heard it! If you view the the Warner Brothers, Cole Porter biopic, "Night and Day" when this is sung by Ginny Simms - the audience erupts in response. I guess you can't please all of the people - all of the time or some of the time.
This surprising scene is recapitulated later in the film when Truman gathers his friends for a dinner party. They are all happy and chatty. They ask him how his book is going and he is struck by the pain of it all. They are all silenced by his grief just as are all the people here. A good movie with good writing. And,by the way, just what is this thing called love? Anybody know?

What is this thing called love is best sung by Ginni Simms from the Cary Grant movie Night and Day. 10 to 1 over this version by Paltrow which does not have the voice necessary and the tempo is way too fast.

avlyanel well, you're entitled to your opinion I guess. but as far as objectivity and open-mindedness is concerned, you have a little bit of work to do

not really. I just cant stand listening to that song, and belive that people claiming to like it is faking. I just cant see that anyone really would enjoy listening to this

I really hope your kidding. This is an awesome jazz standard, if anything it's this version that isn't that great..

I heard it over, and over again. They raped the original. I actually do like alot of jazz songs, but jazz are not my favorite music genre. But this song just hurt. But I dont mind anyone liking it at all! :) I just found it to my liking to get my opinion out here ;) But I still have a problem seeing how anyone can like this version of that song!!! Thats not too bad, right?
