As some of you already know, this is a channel that focuses on intermediate to advanced players. (The market is too saturated with channels targeted to beginner or play by ear musicians). I'm a traditionalist and believe that if you really want to learn jazz, you must learn it from the inside out. There are no short cuts. In each tune, I attempt to figure out what is the best method to give you the musical elements that you need to become more accomplished in your playing. I'm still learning at what level this audience is. So, I appreciate any feedback. It helps me think through what to put into each lesson and what to produce for YOU!. - Best - Paul Tobey

Been away from the piano for a few years and thanks to this video will be giving it a try! Great instruction!

Thanks Joseph. Glad you enjoyed this lesson. And very glad it inspired to get back to the piano!

As usual a clear and concise video of a difficult concept to put across. Definitely inspired to go further down this road. I always watch these and have to go straight to the piano and try (awkwardly) them out.

I'm glad you are trying them out Martin! Keep me posted on how it goes. :-)

Hello Paul. It is awesome. Not for my level of course, but maybe in few years... Who knows :) Thank you very much.

Thanks for the kind words Robert. Do keep at it though. I've had students come a long way - better than they thought they could achieve.

@@Jazzmentl I try to. Everything is in my head, but technic and probably knowledge block it from being transferred to the keyboard :) Thank you Paul.

So basically the left hand is doing just as much improv as the right hand but with chords and bass notes stead?
@Jazzmentl Жыл бұрын
Kind of. The Left hand never really does full line improv such as a line created from the bebop language. But it does improvise on chords and bass notes as you have mentioned.
