Let me answer this question. Normally voltage is stepped down from 25KV to 1KV because in general rated voltage of Traction motor is about 1000V

Nhi aisa hum nhi karte sare motor ka nature alag alag hota hai, is main hum 3 phase squirrel cage induction motor use karte hai jika speed ko sirf "voltage" ko change nhi kijya jata hai agar voltage kam kare toh iske core ki flux density kam hojata hai hum hamesa flux density ko constant Rakhne ki koshish Karte Hain takhi system jada se jada efficient ho hum jitna power derahe usko ache se utilize kar paye. E=4.44* f *(phi)* N Is equation ko dekho sare constant ko hata de toh aur thora rearrange kare toh E/f is directly proportional to (phi) This "phi" is flux density. Toh yahn se ye samjh main aata hai agar E(voltage) kam kare toh flux density kam hoga agar f kam kare toh (phi) jada hoga. Ye sab samjh nhi aaya toh bas itna samjh lo ki sirf voltage Ya frequency ko control kar hum speed control nhi karke train main.. Kam efficient hota. Isliye ye jo V/f ka ratio hai usko constant rakhte hai matlb jitna voltage badaye ge utna frequency bhi jitna voltage kam kare ge utna frequency bhi isko he V/f method of speed control bolte hain. Is VFD se speed toh control Karte he hain uske sath sath torque bhi bahut ache se control kiya jasakta hai motor ki starting torque badhaya ya ghataya jasakta hai jo ki kisi bhi traction motor ke liye bahut important hota hai. That's why we use VFD....not any another method of speed control.
