@@HeatherNittinger Take your time. After my mother passed, I've done a lot of searching. For me, there's a strong pull toward Norse pagan beliefs. Most of my youth (I'm old now) was spent in nature and the mountains. Soon I will commune for the first time with Spirits. And I want my first time to be giving thanks to the Land Spirits (Landvaettir) My second will be to Hel, herself, and ask that my mother's spirit is at peace and content.

She wanted her ashes spread near a tree of my choosing. This will take place in nature. Thus my interest in the Landvaettir. I will ask that they accept her ashes in nature. I will ask Hel to see to her spirit.

I just love your videos. I’ve been exploring Wicca recently. I grew up in Christianity, but I’ve always been a pagan witch at heart, and just now giving myself permission to explore a spirituality that resonates more deeply with me. Currently practicing Wicca and have been for nearly 20 years. I do enjoy the structure within Wicca. I could basically go to France and jump into an open circle ritual and we would likely follow a similar format. There are some things that I think qualify a practitioner as Wiccan (if they choose to identify as such). 1. Belief in magic 2. Follows the Sabbats 3. Has some sort of belief in the divine ( duo, mono, or archetype) 4. Typically works their rituals within a sacred circle that invokes the four elements. Obviously, this doesn't define things neatly for every practitioner but it is common enough that you could reference these points as being part of Wiccan practice. It is also VERY important to note that while Wicca is new (like most reconstructed Pagan practices) it is actually important to us that we know our history. Knowing that our practice is a collection of occultist practices from the 19th and 20th centuries is valuable. Also, knowing about the Celtic romantic movements of the 18th century onwards is good to know. So while some people may feel Wicca doesn't rely on historical facts; I'd counter that argument to say that we definitely do.

I’ve been a practicing Wicca for 8 years I respect your knowledge and dedication but I wouldn’t call Wicca new we have root’s that go all the way back to the Paleolithic era. As mentioned in Raymond Buckland book “complete book of witch craft” I am currently doing a KZbin channel of my own because I’m sick of sitting ideally by while none Wiccans give a false impression of our history that all newcomers should study intensely.

I have been practicing Wicca for almost a year now. I do consider myself a solitary and eclectic practioner. I love the aspect of withcraft, spells, and the esbats. Im still learning and discovery my spiritual path. I was raised Christian and have pretty much denounced my Christian-beliefs. It was a process, which I overcame guilt because of changing my religion.However, I just feel so at home as a Wiccan- like im supposed to be here. Thank you for making this video! I’ve been hesitant to call myself a Wiccan, despite resonating with many of the core beliefs of it at large. I haven’t really met another Wiccan and I’ve only learned from videos and books. I wasn’t quite sure if I really fit, but your video helps a bit :) I guess I’m a solitary eclectic Wiccan. I enjoy the feeling of empowerment, community with the environment/nature and more loving/mutual relationship with deity rather than the fear-based one I was thought in the past, all hellfire and damnation 😅

Something a bit off topic I'd like to share... I recently stumbled upon one of my ALL TIME favorites from when I was a child! Merlin 1998. Featuring Sam Neil, Miranda Richardson, Helena Bonham Carter and many more. Those who grew up in the 90's should be familiar. I was able to watch it again after more then a decade. Really took me back to a magical place, just like when I first saw it as a child. It's basically a tale of the Pagan struggle against the Christian take over in great Britain. Back in olden times! As someone who has struggled to find the right path for me, I will say that the amount of knowledge that this branch of paganism has been able to gather and bring forth has been VERY helpful. I love the wheel of the year, and as I observe the seasons change I feel connected more to my Appalachian home. I am interested to know how individuals who live in tropical environments handle to the wheel of the year. When I think of the folklore that accompanies my Hispanic studies, I see fewer aspects of Wicca even today. Most witches I can think of fall under Santería and other syncretic faiths and practices. Does one's geography affect the kind of paganism that would suit them?

I think that geography can play a role... Although it isn't necessarily a "a deal breaker" per say. For instance, you needn't be Greek (or residing in Greece) to practice Neo Hellenic paganism! Same applies throughout the spectrum of Pagan branches... I'm a resident in South Africa, born and raised Christian. But converted to eclectic Hellenic Neo paganism in my late teens/early twenties. I'm not Greek, I have NO Greek ancestry (so far I know 😏) and yet I honour the Olympians and all gods associated because it resonates with me on a deeper spiritual level. I live in Florida, I’m also Puerto Rican, and i wouldn’t say that Florida really has typical seasons- we have intense summers and mild winters and a lot of Floridian Pagans who follow the wheel of the year celebrate it normally like in the colder areas of the world, the same in Puerto Rico which is, as you know, a tropical island. In reference to Santería, things are much more complicated.. First off Santería is technically a closed/initiated religion which would thus follow Catholic holidays not the wheel of the year BUT in my own studies of my own heritage and lineage, Santería has a base of what I would best call an “Afro-Hispanic-Taíno Indian” HooDoo/Rootwork substratum that you can easily separate from the Catholic Folk roots (let you mind in Puerto Rico, Santería isn’t the only Pagan inspired religion, there is also Palo Mayombe, Palo Monte, Sanse, Native/Taíno-Indian religions, Puerto Rican Voodoo, Ifá Religions, Folkloric Witchcraft and of course Wicca). In this sense, the Paganism used from the islands together can make up a practice on its own with a more genuine witchcraft and this is something that I personally try to re-create in my own personal practice and in this case the wheel of the year can easily be used because of the association with Spain which specifically northern and central Spain had ties with Celtic tribes before the Romans came over and over-threw the Celts, many of the Celtic belief systems are still followed in many areas of Spain though they aren’t the only tribes who existed in the area as the Iberians, Romany, Jewish, Arabic and Phonecian cultures brought in other belief systems specifically in Southern Spain and the Canary Islands. The history of Spain is EXTREMELY complicated, there’s not a lot of information out there, and it is a very fascinating subject to get into.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. It is so important that we understand that our Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and that we cannot walk with God but run with the devil. I understand having doubts in our faith or these earthly pagan religions being apealing (which happens) but through it those times in our lives we must seek truth which is in Christ. He tells us to turn away from our sin and earthly things and my gosh these new age religions are terribly earthly. I encourage you to continue in your faith and grow in your relationship with the Lord! Ask him for confidence in him and to help you through these times of hardship. He has always been there for you and always will be. Jesus has already payed the debt for our sin, all we have to do is repent (truly be sorry of our sins and choose to do better) and we will be saved. Choose a life with him before it is too late. I am a solitary Dianic Witch, but i devote myself more to Nature than society. I feel better in Nature and in the presence of animals than humans. I spend my time with other wiccans who are very pro animal rights and nature and i am also practicing rune stones and tarot, i sometimes perform rituals (mostly prayers to The Goddess) under the full moon (because it rains alot where i live) and follow the wiccan rede and the 3 fold law...but i hate having to perform any ritual on Samhain because...i rather go to halloween parties...i know its weird.

i think we should also discuss how wicca has a tendency to be heavily culturally appropriative. i used to be wiccan when i first got into paganism, and i left it after getting in touch with my own ancestral roots as a chamorro and irish person (i’m interested in working w ancestors and the celtic path). wiccans get really really pressed whenever i bring up the fact that their religion is built largely off of cultural appropriation and things stolen from closed practices. it’s worth addressing so people know the entire scope of wicca and whether they want to stick with it still.

Hi Megan, you bring up some interesting points! In the video I mentioned that the original version of wicca was inspired by Celtic Paganism, Druidry, and occult secret societies. As far as I know Celtic Paganism and Druidry are not closed religions. While later iterations of Wicca may have brought in influences from other cultures beyond Europe, I believe that the original manifestations of wicca was inspired by mostly European forms of Paganism. Is there something specific in Wicca that you viewed as stolen from another culture? While I'll admit that modern Wicca does occasionally run into issues of cultural appropriation, for the most part I've found it as a very welcoming and open community overall.

How exactly is Wicca built off cultural appropriation? Its magic and ritual system is based largely on common Western occultism, which belongs to pretty much all of humanity because, you know, the Greeks/Romans. Its veneration of the moon and Nature is hardly a closed practice. Sure, it borrows holiday names from Celtic tradition, but that's because it developed in the UK, where those holidays are part of the culture (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Cornwall are Celtic and part of the UK, along with England). I’m hard pressed to find anything in my practice as a Wiccan, or any others I’ve met, that has been appropriated from closed practices. We need to stop gate keeping about things we don’t understand. I agree appropriation of closed practices is wrong, especially if people within those practices have asked that their practices not be used. I think you are conflating the practices of some individuals who identify as Wiccan that you may have met with what Wicca actually is. There are likely some, though I’ve never met any, Wiccans who are guilty of this. But Wicca itself is not inherently guilty of what you’re accusing it of. It has become popular among hyper woke people to try and criticize Wicca in such ways. I have very progressive views but still think it’s important to fully inform yourself before engaging in such attacks. Hi! Most of wicca is inspired from Celtic paganism, so it does already have a bit of Celtic influence. If you'd like to bring in even more Celtic influence, you can use the Celtic deities and spirits as the main pantheon you work with in your wiccan practice. You can also work with the 4 Celtic holidays within the wheel of the year (Beltane, Samhian, Imbolc, lughnassad).

I was born and raised Christian but I've chosen to be a Solitary Eclectic Wiccan. I love the closeness to nature I get from Wicca. I also get a better connection with the afterlife more in line to what I believe. Abrahamic religions are promising basically dead-ends. I don't want to be in a slap-happy paradise/holodeck for all eternity. WWJD? Certainly NOT pace around an altar with glitzy gold objects all over, lording over people. To whatever extent people may agree with me or not we are all wired differently and we all are capable of sensing the energies of the world meaning positive and negative Some people are more sensitive than others which I think accounts for why people believe in different things of course there are other factors. I enjoy Scarlet's content. I wish she would differentiate between Wicca and Neo-Wicca. Wicca is a form of Witchcraft. Witchcraft has always historically been a religious phenomenon. In my opinion Wicca is primarily lunar based. The solar-earth based agricultural current is second in my opinion. Also from what I can gather from traditional authors, the Wiccan Rede is NOT a commandment, but advice similar to tying your shoes before walking out of the house. I'm guessing the "Ten commandments" style interpretation of Rede became popular with the rise of organizations such as Llewellyn as an attempt to appeal to major world religions as having strict codes especially in the Satanic Panic of the 90s. This in my opinion is where the lines between Wicca and Neo-Wicca begin. That's just my take.

I agree that wicca has evolved so much since it's conception that perhaps there is a strong division between the original wicca and it's more modern variations (neo-wicca). That's also really interesting what you mentioned about Llewellyn popularizing the wiccan rede as an attempt to combat the negative effects of the Satanic panic, I didn't know that :)

I am more into traditional witchcraft. I don't really look at being a witch as being a part of a religion. That is why I do not consider myself wiccan. Do I necessarily believe that doing my craft is all about sunshine and daisies and only about the good? No. Even though, I've never put a hex on someone or put negative energies out while I was doing my craft I know those energies exist and I know they should be acknowledged and respected. I will not act like they don't exist, with all the good out there you do there is also bad being done. It's a balance. When you practice magick it is a very personal and individualized to the person performing that magick. While I totally respect wiccans ways and how they choose to practice. It's just not for me. I like being individual, while I like getting together with like minded individuals I also like to practice my way.

I think there needs to be a little wiggle room for discovery and passion and growth. When you classify something as a religion generally, it picks up the connotation as being very structured, disciplined, and very limiting. Where traditional witchcraft seems to be more freeing and individualized and not limited. It also seems not as hush hush.. I'd love to teach or talk about how or why I practice the way I do and then have someone show or tell me why or how they practice the way they do. Project as well as receive. There again, balance.

I was seriously considering Wicca for a while until I found out about various branches of it being quite transphobic and very gender essentialist, which meant they were not inclusive of non-binary people. Even though I myself am cis, this still struck me as unwelcoming. Also, just because you have a primary female Goddess, but still portray Her ONLY as the traditional feminine archetype, that does not make you some kind of progressive religion in my opinion (which is how a lot of Wiccans "market" themselves). Obviously, I'm not saying these issues don't come up in other Pagan paths or communities. It's just that since Wicca is relatively new, they still have all the possibilities to amend/reform these beliefs, and the fact that many of the Wiccan leaders don't seem to care about these issues, says a lot. On the other hand, I have met many solitary/eclectic wiccans who are absolutely amazing, warm and welcoming people.
