Hi sir Who introduced the term Weltliteratur?
@PKTechnicalWorld12 ай бұрын
@@venikumar2747 The concept of "World Literature" (also known as "Global Literature" or "Comparative Literature") has evolved over time, and it's difficult to attribute its introduction to a single person. However, here are some key figures who contributed to its development: 1. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832): Goethe, a German writer and philosopher, is often credited with coining the term "Weltliteratur" (World Literature) in the 1820s. 2. Friedrich Schlegel (1772-1829): A German literary critic and scholar, Schlegel emphasized the importance of studying literature across cultures and languages. 3. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831): Hegel's philosophical ideas on universalism and cultural exchange influenced the development of World Literature. 4. Matthew Arnold (1822-1888): An English poet and critic, Arnold advocated for a broader, cosmopolitan approach to literature. 5. Erich Auerbach (1892-1957): A German literary critic and scholar, Auerbach's book "Mimesis: The Representation of Reality in Western Literature" (1946) is considered a foundational text in World Literature studies. Other notable scholars who contributed to the field include: - Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) - T.S. Eliot (1888-1965) - Frank Raymond Leavis (1895-1978) - Northrop Frye (1912-1991) - Edward Said (1935-2003) - Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak (1942-present) These thinkers, along with many others, have shaped the concept of World Literature into its current form. Would you like more information on World Literature or its key figures?
