As someone who runs an outreach for homeless and struggling families i can confidently warn all of you who have left disparaging comments about the homeless that tomorrow it could happen to you. In this economic climate and with government like we have currently no one is safe from collapse of their financial stability. You would be surprised by the qualifications of some i encounter. We have families where both parents work but are having to live in tents in parks because greedy landlords and agents are controling the rental market and the government is allowing so many foreigners to buy houses here. These people are our communities and as such we all should be doing something constructive instead of saying nasty things like " nobody cares about the homeless". I know who i have more respect for. That is why this country is going down the sewer, because too many people who only cares about themselves.

I kept an eye on the price of soft drinks at corner stores as a measure of inflation. 500ml bottle of coke in the year 2000 was $1.80. It quickly jumped to a round $2, which I thought was reasonable. But in only a few short years passed before they jumped again to $2.20 then all of a sudden $2.50, $2.80. and so on. Now the price of a drink at most shops will run you $4 to $5. As a measure of inflation that is 2.5x the price hiked in just a couple of decades. It was quite obvious a long time ago that the cost of living was going to far outweigh the average income. I also noticed the temporary nature of absolutely everything we purchased after 2000 or so. It used to be if you bought something once you could expect that thing to last you the rest of your life. Now things are designed to break so we have to replace them constantly making life one big circle of consumption that has no end goal. When I was a kid it was generally thought that if you had a million dollars you would be set for life, because that would buy everything you could possibly need in life. How hilarious that seems now in todays world.

Wife and i will be living in a old bus come xmas. We're lucky, we've managed to 'just' keep paying the rent since it increased and I sold my good 4wd to buy the old bus. Many others unfortunately don't have that choice. The grubberment don't care and those that own there homes don't care. Basically anyone that's not homeless or struggling trying not to be homeless don't care. As another comment on this page says, it too could be you one day.

Let me tell you what "economic" climate/society/world we live in. "OWN NOTHING AND BE HAPPY." We are in a global depression, what we are not being told is the truth about why the US is about lower interest rates, the financial bubble that is starting to burst, the war economy we are in. How or why is it the cost of gold is rising to USD $3,000. per ounce? Why is the demand for bunkers increased by over 300% over the past year? Why is there an E7-A Wedgetail Eagle (Australia's version of AWACS - Airborne early Warning And Control) doing "shoelace laps off the coast of Sydney? Why is there C-7 planes moving heavy artillery/machinery/units around and from Australia to Mid East/Ukraine and other parts of the world? Why are we not being told to prepare for conscription, when so many times we have been told in not so many words? We are deaf and blind, and we have had it so good for so long, we now need to make a choice. Lie in bed with the anti-Christ's doer China, or die fighting alongside U.S.A. who is fighting to keep USD from collapsing. Don't kid yourselves we are turning into a 3rd world country, just like Europe and USA. The western Empire is fallen, and the Eastern Empire once again rules supreme for a short time. 🇦🇺🇮🇱🇺🇸

Nothing wrong with Australia. It's the best Western country by any metrics and by far. Not even the EU and the US (which are collapsing) come even close to the quality of life, healthcare, education and wellfare that Australians can enjoy. There is a reason why score of people even from other western countries are flocking to Australia.

@@AustralianSurvivalism You're wrong if you think Australia is in the same boat as the US and the EU. Australia has different policies, geography and interests. The only reason Australia would collapse is by force, that is because of external factors. It won't happen because of structural reasons.

I used to think this too, until it was explained to me. By fixing money to gold, which is a finite supply, it negates the ability of a country to compete in the open market. Countries are unable to, say, provide labour at a lower rate, thereby increasing their capacity to buy what they don't produce. If a country's money is tied to the gold they own, this is not possible. I know I haven't explained this as succinctly as I could, just know that when the US currency was backed by gold, they held 48% of the world's gold reserves. This gave them far more leverage than a smaller country whose gold holdings may have been zilch. I am not saying Fiat currency is the way to go, just that a gold standard is not the answer either. Malcolm's comment about a people's bank, just like the Commonwealth used to be, was spot on.
