You are helping me fill in social skills I didn't learn as a child because of an abusive environment. Thank you

I believe that not only we all have different conflict styles, but we change our conflict styles depending on the context. for example, I tend to practice an accommodating or a collaborative conflict style, whereas I tend practice a competent or avoidant conflict style with my father, who tends to barely pay any attention to anything I say and has a disapproving nature in general.

How have your conflict styles evolved over time? I used to be very avoidant and accommodating for the sake of getting the conflict over with. But as I've gotten older I've learned that it's best not to suppress my needs and feelings and now work on collaborating to find a solution or compromise. -Paola

I realized the same today! I used to have a friend who would demand a lot of my time from my already busy schedule, and would prioritize her self goals. I realized that I used to use avoidant conflict style because I tend to value the other person's self goals and to suppress my emotions, thus being the avoidant or accommodating conflict style. Now I can confidently say I have changed myself for the better.
